Week 4 SEC Rankings: Georgia is still be the best, Vanderbilt still the worst

Georgia and Arkansas fans are both rankled about the fact that their game in Athens is at 12 ET (11 am CT), and even College Gameday’s arrival isn’t going to change that.

But how was anyone meant to know that Arkansas would beat Texas A&M, and gain revenge for years of misery meted out to them by the Aggies over the years that they’ve clashed at JerryWorld?

Anyway, here’s ranking the SEC’s teams after Week 4. And Auburn: You ain’t that high.

  1.  Georgia (4-0): The running game’s awesome. The defense is unstoppable. The Dawgs are going to the SEC Championship Game, and will be unbeatable on the way.
  2.  Alabama (4-0): The Tide are great. Simple. Will the defense be able to stop Ole Miss, though?
  3.  Arkansas (4-0): Beating Texas and Texas A&M gives them the best resume in the SEC, and maybe college football. We’re still not sold on KJ Jefferson, but man we’re sold on that defense.
  4.  Ole Miss (3-0): Matt Corral’s could be in the Nissan Heisman House this time next year. We’ll see about the defense though. They haven’t faced anybody.
  5.  Florida (3-1): The Gators had a bit of a headache in the first half against Tennessee, but then picked it up and destroyed the Volunteers in the second half in front of a packed Swamp. They ain’t gonna be backing down to anybody.
  6.  Texas A&M (3-1): Zach Calzada is a real struggle to watch, and although Isaiah Spiller is wonderful, his offensive line is not. The defense is still pretty stout, but this year’s outfit is a pretty medicore. Which is not what the locals are asking for after raising Jimbo Fisher’s salary to ‘nuclear’ in the SEC arms race.
  7.  LSU (3-1): LSU controlled their game against Mississippi State, and then they didn’t. Kayshon Boutte is still one of the best WRs in the country, and Max Johnson is indeed a gamer. But the offensive line? Dear Lord. And the defense ain’t great either. You would think that the secondary would be better with Derek Stingley, quite honestly.
  8. Auburn (3-1): A squeaker victory over Georgia Southern doesn’t excite as to what direction the Tigers are going in. Oh, and Bo Nix is no longer a horse for the Heisman.
  9.  Kentucky (4-0): The Wildcats were dreadful Chattanooga, and pretty dreadful on the road at South Carolina. Will Levis still has a ton of questions to answer with his 7:5 Touchdown: Interception record, and we’re just not sure why this team – once so highly-fancied – are – quite simply so not-great.
  10.  Mississippi State (2-2): Mississippi State was basically controlled by LSU almost throughout Saturday’s game, but showed some pluck with 6.48 to to go in the 4th quarter to battle and show some life. We don’t know what ‘life’ means in Starkville, but we’ve got some good things to think at the moment.
  11. Tennessee (2-2): The first half against Florida gave Vols fans a reason to believe, although it’s painfully obvious that the defense simply isn’t there. And it’s hardly surprising after all the transfers after last season and the Jeremy Pruitt scandal. Still, the Vols may have something good going in Josh Heupel – especially if he can recruit good offensive players.
  12. Missouri (2-2): Despite the best efforts of Tyler Badie, the defense keeps letting them down – a reason why both of their losses this year have been heartbreakers. This looks like a team that won’t be making a bowl this year, unless they can sort their headache out.
  13. South Carolina (2-2):  South Carolina’s offense managed 216 yards and 10 points against Kentucky….and still only lost by 6. The defense created THREE turnovers at the time, but Doty & Co couldn’t move it. Kevin Harris – like he has been all season- was a massive disappointment (God only knows what’s happened to him). It’s difficult to watch in Columbia this season.
  14. Vanderbilt (1-3): The UConn vs Vanderbilt game on Saturday will be like the ‘Two Girls, One Cup’ video: Putrid to watch.
