SEC tears up schedule, reschedules

The SEC has torn up the December 12th and 19th schedules and replaced it in an effort to complete a 10-game schedule for all the teams.

The move was timely bearing in mind the news that Vanderbilt had cancelled its game against Georgia because of COVID protocols as well as injuries sustained (Vandy was always going to a difficult one, because it was ludicrously low on scholarships starting the season due to opt-outs and transfers).

It will be a miracle if Greg Sankey & Co will pull it off – but with Ole Miss not coming back until Thursday, this is looking increasingly unlikely.

The SEC Championship Game will be an 8pm/7pm CT kick-off, on CBS.

We’ve also put in when the schedules were taken from. All of these were because of COVID-19.

There are 10 games here, adding to the Kentucky vs Missouri, Georgia at Kentucky and Missouri at Florida games that had already been shuffled (and played!). Oh, and LSU vs Alabama.

Schedule of SEC Football Games for December 12:

  • LSU at Florida (rescheduled from October 17)
  • Auburn at Mississippi State (rescheduled from November 14)
  • Georgia at Missouri (rescheduled from November 14)
  • Ole Miss at Texas A&M (rescheduled from November 21)
  • Tennessee at Vanderbilt (rescheduled from November 28)
  • Alabama at Arkansas (rescheduled from December 5)

Schedule of SEC Football games for December 19:

  • Texas A&M at Tennessee (rescheduled from November 14)*
  • Ole Miss at LSU (rescheduled from December 5)
  • Missouri at Mississippi State (rescheduled from December 5)
  • Vanderbilt at Georgia (rescheduled from December 5)#
  • SEC Football Championship, Atlanta, 8 pm ET/7 pm CT

If Ole Miss cancels its game with Texas A&M next week, this could be an absolute nightmare. The SEC would have to cancel one of LSU/Florida, LSU/Ole Miss and Texas A&M/Ole Miss.

In my thinking, you’d cancel Ole Miss at LSU, and switch Texas A&M/Ole Miss and Texas A&M/Tennessee. And keep LSU/Florida.

The reason? The eyes of the College Football Play-Off. As much as we love Lane Kiffin, the Rebels are competitively irrelevant, while Texas A&M and Florida are very much in the hunt for a play-off place.
