Week 2 Rankings: Ole Miss rules, Georgia needs to play someone

Normally, if a team’s the No.1 team in the nation, then they would usually be No.1 on our SEC rankings.

But aside from the fact that Georgia’s schedule is medicore-to-dreadful, they haven’t looked wonderful on offense, and aren’t clicking in enough gears to get the No.1 spot.

So here are the rankings:

  1. Ole Miss (2-0): Beat Tulane 37-20 and looked increasingly comfortable as the game went on. Judkins is a weapon, and Jaxson Dart is looking increasingly comfortable within the offense. Look, there are still things to iron out (they were 1-13 on 3rd downs), but a ‘scrappy’ offense that wins is better than none at all.
  2. Tennessee (2-0): Tennessee’s offense sputtered against Austin Peay, but they still ran out in the end. They also nuked Virginia. We remain worried about Joe Milton III.
  3. Georgia (2-0): The defense is elite, which will probably get them through the SEC East – and possibly the SEC.
  4. Arkansas (2-0): KJ Jefferson’s probably the best QB in the SEC. He continued to have a good one on Saturday, going 13-19 for 136 yards and 2 TDs. They also went 9-14 on third down and 1-2 on 4th, and controlled the line play. Can’t really say a lot better than that.
  5. Alabama (1-1): Alabama was an embodiment of imperfection of Saturday. The drops. The penalties. The lack of good line play. In fact, this team looked young. Look, they are going to be good this year, and Jalin Milroe is going to get better, but the loss against Texas when they were 7.5 point favourites didn’t make them look like a team that’s going to run the SEC West gauntlet.
  6. Mississippi State (2-0): The Zach Arnett experiment is 2-0, and won out in overtime against a team that we think is going to be in a bowl game later this year. The secondary also had 4 interceptions early on.
  7. LSU (1-1): It has always been said that the key to a team is how you improve from Week 1 to Week 2. LSU took care of business against Grambling.
  8. Texas A&M (1-1): Texas A&M was not good against Miami. The offense looked exactly the same as it was last season, which is hardly a compliment. Evan Stewart’s utterly elite, too. A&M’s going to be better.
  9.  Auburn (2-0): Auburn went on the road to Cal, gave them a ton of chances to score, and came away with only conceding 10 points. The offense is still ass, though.
  10.  South Carolina (1-1): Trailed Furman 14-7 early on before taking control and winning out 47-21, but we’re still not in love with the Gamecocks.
  11. Florida (1-1): The Gators were awful against Utah, and a bit better on Saturday. Montrell Johnson could be a RB star, and Graham Mertz looked OK. The real mettle of this team will be how they do when Tennessee rolls into town.
  12.  Kentucky (2-0): Look at what we said about Week 1 and 2 last week. Kentucky was bad against Ball State and maybe worse against an Eastern Kentucky team that it was a 35 point favorite against. And Kentucky had more than 5 minutes ball control too, so you can hardly blame the NCAA rules.
  13.  Missouri (2-0): The Tigers are a bad team. The Vanderbilt game may be unwatchable.
  14. Vanderbilt (2-1): The Commodores are a bad team. The Missouri game may be unwatchable.
