SEC Championship Game: Will there actually be an upset in Atlanta?

The SEC has had quite the week.

If it wasn’t for Hugh Freeze returning to head coaching in the SEC like a cockroach, it was College Football expansion. Oh, and there were darker stories around the University of Florida, where back-up QB Jalen Kitna was arrested and jailed on child pornography charges.

Well on Saturday, it’s time for business: The SEC Championship Game between No.1 Georgia (-17.5 O/U 52.5) and No.14 LSU.

On the face of it, this should be an absolute cakewalk for the Bulldogs.

LSU has just been housed by Texas A&M, who ran roughshod on the Tigers, who actually had the ‘Fightin’ taken away from them after such a shitty performance against a team that’s missing a bowl and has been the laughing stock of the SEC all year long.

Georgia is ahead of LSU in all major comparisons – as you would expect them to be.

But where Georgia is interesting and where LSU could find a bit of luck with Georgia’s uncanny knack of playing down to its opponents.

Georgia was not great against Kent State. It should have lost at Missouri. It was bad against Kentucky, and it was bad for the first half against Georgia Tech.

We expect Stetson Bennett to hit Brock Bowers a lot, and Ladd McConkey – the latter who has come out of NOWHERE to catch for 606 yards and 4 TDs – as well. Oh, look for Bowers to target giant TE Darnell Washington, too.

LSU is going to need freshman linebacker Harold Perkins – who will win College Football’s freshman of the year award this year – to get off the Georgia O-Line and somehow stop Stetson Bennett. He may well be double-teamed all day long.

On the other side of the ball, Jaylen Daniels is going to have to be pretty incredible to get away from the Georgia pressure – especially as LSU has two freshmen offensive tackles (yeah, good luck!). Malik Nabers is going to be the trusted WR for LSU – as he has been all season. We could see some more from Kayshon Boutte, who averaged a tidy 10.3 yards per catch, as well as Jaray Jenkins. Jamon Dumas-Johnson (8 sacks this year), will have Daniels running for his life, as he is apt to do.

PREDICTION: Georgia’s going to roll. Georgia 41, LSU 21.
