Week 8 SEC Preview and Predictions (and some others too!)

It’s a relatively quiet week in the SEC, with only 4 SEC match-ups and out-of-conference v SEC game. Headlining it is Alabama v Tennessee, with South Carolina’s trip to Missouri, Ole Miss’ trip to Auburn, and a bottom-feeder-for-the-SEC-West clash between Mississippi State and Arkansas (which should be stuck on on the Pac-12 Network, let alone the SEC Network) coming along behind. Oh, and LSU hosts Army, which would have been a cool match-up, erm, last year. So as a special treat, we’re doing a brief  preview of three non-conference match-ups between ranked teams, including Penn State’s trip to Ohio State, Duke v Florida State, and Utah v USC – a match-up that looked a lot spicier before the season started.

SEC: LSU-Auburn ‘highlights’ a pretty bad slate

This week’s SEC isn’t week. It’s simply bad. Zero Top 25 match-ups. One Top 10 team. Two slaughters on the menu. A game between two also-rans in their respective divisions, and one game between teams that will be fighting it out for second place in their divisions. SEC Week 7 Power Rankings: Georgia makes statement

If last week was a sleepy wander for the Georgia Bulldogs, this week was absolute savagery. Kentucky was destroyed 51-13, and that result was probably kind on them. Elsewhere, Alabama did their usual squeaking-by of Texas A&M, LSU got over the line in a shoot-out against Missouri, Ole Miss comfortably beat a terrible Arkansas team, Florida thumped a woeful Vanderbilt, and Mississippi State did something about Western Michigan. Everyone else gave Bye Week a good seeing-to. So here are your rankings: Georgia (6-0): Questioned over whether they were good enough to three-peat at National Champions, Georgia curb-stomped Kentucky. Week 2 Rankings: Ole Miss rules, Georgia needs to play someone

Normally, if a team’s the No.1 team in the nation, then they would usually be No.1 on our SEC rankings. But aside from the fact that Georgia’s schedule is medicore-to-dreadful, they haven’t looked wonderful on offense, and aren’t clicking in enough gears to get the No.1 spot. So here are the rankings: Ole Miss (2-0): Beat Tulane 37-20 and looked increasingly comfortable as the game went on. Judkins is a weapon, and Jaxson Dart is looking increasingly comfortable within the offense. Look, there are still things to iron out (they were 1-13 on 3rd downs), but a ‘scrappy’ offense that wins is better than none at all. THE WEEK ONE SEC RANKING LIST

  Without further ado (and without focus on the SEC’s 1-3 record against Power-5 teams this week) here we goooo……. Vanderbilt (2-0): BECAUSE THEY ARE 2-0 BABY! AND THE RECORD MATTERS!!  Tennessee (1-0): BECAUSE THEY WERE THE ONLY SEC TEAM TO BEAT A POWER-5 TEAM EVEN THOUGH A LOT OF NON POWER-5 TEAMS AND MAYBE A COUPLE OF FCS TEAMS WOULD HAVE BEATEN THAT POWER-5 TEAM!! SEC Preview: Can Florida get competitive again?

It seems like it was light years ago that Florida had two Heisman contenders, was one of the most exciting teams in college football, and played in a major bowl. But in fact, it was only 2020. SEC Preview: Getting Lucky In Kentucky?

Last year, Kentucky was meant to take a step back after a great 10-3 season in 2021. And it did, with a very ordinary 7-6 record. Will Levis was drafted exactly how we expected him to be drafted (ie not in the first round, and probably won’t even be QB2 in Tennesssee), and Chris Rodriguez has impressed many in Washington after a top preseason after a great career in Lexington. SEC Preview: Arkansas, we gotta talk about the pass defense

Talk all you want about how great Arkansas will be with KJ Jefferson coming back for another year, but the fact is this: Unless they get better on pass defense, there are going to be a lot of questions asked about Sam Pittman’s reign. They were WORST in the country by some mile, giving up 294.7 yards per game (second-last East Carolina gave up 292.8) and 8 1/2 yards/attempt. SEC Preview: Will Petrino’s arrival propel Texas A&M?

2022 and 2023 were meant to be banner years for Texas A&M. Buoyed by a NIL fund worth hundreds of millions, the Aggies recruited its best class in decades. Then, they fell apart. Half of the that group transferred. A&M lost to Appalachian State and played a lot of football, but should have beaten Alabama and DID beat LSU. Jimbo Fisher exercised some excellent restraint, realizing that things weren’t working with him at the offensive reigns, so he brought in everyone’s favorite motorcyle-driving crazy person, Bobby Petrino.
