Lane Kiffin: Winner or Whiner? (Ole Miss Preview)

Lane Kiffin is on a mission to make a statesman of himself. After failing to get the Auburn job, Kiffin has decided that he’s going to be the Nick Saban, proclaiming the evils of NIL. He reckons that it’s a crazy free market, with schools that have the most aggressive donors (I think he was taking a shot at the rest of the SEC, but who knows?) being able to sign any recruit they want, limiting the actions of recruiting and essentially played Money-ed ball (you heard that line hear first). Speaking of free market, it’s not secret that Lane Kiffin was lifting his blouse to Auburn for ages, and it didn’t work out. For some reason (and we suspect

2023 Preview: Should Missouri fans prepare to be Miz-erable?

This is the first SEC Preview of the season, which will no doubt be edited thanks to the usual quarterbacking decisions, injuries and suspensions that proliferate schools.  Missouri gets everything going…. Last season: Missouri’s 6-7 season was pretty turgid, save for a Georgia game that they should have won, and a balls-to-the-wall victory against Arkansas that sent Eli Drinkwitz crazy with the joy of going to a bowl game (that they then lost to Wake Forest by 10). The biggest news of the season was the Eli Drinkwitz somehow managed to get himself a contract extension, despite doing a dreadful job as an offensive coach, and leading the team to a 17-19 record and pretty abysmal 11-15 conference record. Who’s

New ’24 schedule sets up some SEC monster clashes

The arrival of Texas and Oklahoma may have people fuming about the teams voting not to go to a nine game schedule, but this hasn’t stopped the SEC from putting together some monster clashes for the 2024 year, which will lack divisions. THE ‘WE JUST WALKED INTO A CAULDRON’ TEAM Texas will play Georgia and Florida at home, while going on the road to Arkansas (who hate their guts) and Texas A&M (who hate them even more). There’s also the Red River Rivalry to boot. Oh, and they also travel to the Big House to play Michigan (Home dates with Kentucky and Mississippi State and a road game at Vanderbilt make it a bit palatable, but STILL). Oklahoma gets Alabama, Tennessee

The SEC is going to vote for 8 games….sigh

The Southeastern Conference is going to vote for an eight game schedule (including one permanent opponent), and the fans are going to be completely screwed. BUT IT’S NOT ABOUT THE FANS, THE COACHES GENERALLY DON’T CARE There’s Kentucky’s Mark Stoops, who has openly campaigned for an 8-game schedule, has called it ‘unfair’ , we think simply because the Wildcats have Louisville in the Commonwealth Cup, and therefore it makes their schedule even more difficult. Nick Saban, who was a long-time advocate of nine games, has pushed the idea of an all Power-5, better non-conference schedule instead. In fact, his lack of support for something that would be better for his fanbase led to the Tuscaloosa News – Alabama’s version of

Settling the whole Georgia 2022 v LSU 2019 debate

Since Georgia won the 2022 National Championship and became the first back-to-back Natty winners since 2011-2 Alabama, people are asking: Would this 2019 Georgia team beat the ‘unstoppable’ LSU team of 2019?   OFFENSES QUARTERBACK JOE BURROW V STETSON BENNETT Burrow’s stats (2019): 402-507 (76.3 completion percentage), 5671 yards, 60 TDs, 6 INTs. 361 yards rushing, 5 TDs. Heisman Trophy. 1 SEC Championship. 1 National Championship. Bennett’s stats (2022): 310-455 (68.1 completion percentage), 4127 yards, 27 TDs, 7 INTs. Rushing: 250 yards, 10 TDs. Invited to NYC for Heisman Trophy. 1 SEC Championship. 1 National Championship. Burrow’s numbers in 2019 were staggering (He broke the record for total yards in a season and touchdowns in a season that year). The

Rivalry Week: SEC game predictions (plus the other one!)

Before we talk about SEC rivalries, let’s think about the one that’s not going to be played this week: Virginia and Virginia Tech. It’s not because of COVID-19. It’s not because of food poisoning through both camps that means both teams can’t field players. It’s because a nasty piece of work shot three of his former teammates dead and the team can’t do anything but mourn. It doesn’t make me want to give thoughts and prayers, it makes me want to give thoughts and get ****ing angry. Less importantly that my previous paragraph, it’s Rivalry Week in College Football – but in particular, the SEC. There’s battles for Irons, Palmettos, Eggs, jorts and even ****ing Commonwealths. It’s nasty, it’s angry,

SEC Week 10 Preview: Cancel your diary from 3.30 onwards in SEC land

If you’re on Death Row, it’s your last few days before the fryer and you’re somehow reading this article alongside a lot of pornographic material that the wardens have given you before your journey to the Great Unknown, I’d like to give you some advice: Plead that your last week should be spent watching college football – especially SEC Football. At 3.30pm ET (2.30 pm God’s time), No.1 Tennessee rolls into No.3 Georgia with the SEC East on the line. And if things go really badly for the one of the sides, potentially a College Football Play-Off place, too. Later on, No.6 Alabama rolls into Death Valley to face LSU. Even if the scoreline’s out of hand, it’s always pretty

Harsin out at Auburn: Who’s next?

Finally, Bryan Harsin’s been fired at Auburn. After less than two seasons. The hire was hated by Auburn fans and boosters alike when AD Allen Greene – now departed – ignored the noise, went out West, and brought his coach in from Boise State. A good Pac-12 school maybe, but Boise f***ing state? After last season, the knives were out. The Auburn boosters tried everything but storming Harsin’s house to get the coach out, trying to persecute Harsin for God knows what. Harsin said at the SEC Media Days: “I know some of you are sitting here looking at me didn’t expect back for my second SEC Media Day…“It was uncomfortable, unfounded, and it presented an opportunity for people to

SEC Week 5 Preview: LSU goes to Auburn, Arkansas v Alabama

Honestly, writing this preview seems a little worthless bearing in mind Hurricane Ian and its effect on SEC territory. The University of Florida and their players will be watching the game with heavy hearts, bearing in mind the devestation around the State. South Carolina already got ahead of the game by playing South Carolina State on Thursday. It was a slaughter as Carolina won 50-10. Spencer Rattler AGAIN wasn’t a highlight, throwing 2 TDs but also 2 picks. MarShawn Lloyd led the running backs with 91 yards and a TD (and a TD reception, too). For Saturday, Alabama’s trip to Arkansas, Auburn’s trip to LSU, and Kentucky’s trip to Ole Miss highlights the schedule. There’s an underrated potential beauty in
