  Without further ado (and without focus on the SEC’s 1-3 record against Power-5 teams this week) here we goooo……. Vanderbilt (2-0): BECAUSE THEY ARE 2-0 BABY! AND THE RECORD MATTERS!!  Tennessee (1-0): BECAUSE THEY WERE THE ONLY SEC TEAM TO BEAT A POWER-5 TEAM EVEN THOUGH A LOT OF NON POWER-5 TEAMS AND MAYBE A COUPLE OF FCS TEAMS WOULD HAVE BEATEN THAT POWER-5 TEAM!! Oh, and Joe Milton’s 21-30, 201 yard, 2 TD effort (where he shone out at times), was excellent.  Kentucky (1-0): Beat a team that’s expected to be a title contender in the MAC. SEC Preview: Can Florida get competitive again?

It seems like it was light years ago that Florida had two Heisman contenders, was one of the most exciting teams in college football, and played in a major bowl. But in fact, it was only 2020. Now, the architect of it all is out, and so is the quarterback, and the weapons who played alongside him. In came Luke Napier from ULL. He told everyone that it would be a slow process. SEC Preview: Getting Lucky In Kentucky?

Last year, Kentucky was meant to take a step back after a great 10-3 season in 2021. And it did, with a very ordinary 7-6 record. Will Levis was drafted exactly how we expected him to be drafted (ie not in the first round, and probably won’t even be QB2 in Tennesssee), and Chris Rodriguez has impressed many in Washington after a top preseason after a great career in Lexington. This year, things are expected to be (checks notes) pretty good, what with the transfer signings of QB Devin Leary from NC State, who’s seen by many as THE transfer of the 2023 portal, and RB Ray Davis at Vanderbilt, who was fantastic there. New ’24 schedule sets up some SEC monster clashes

The arrival of Texas and Oklahoma may have people fuming about the teams voting not to go to a nine game schedule, but this hasn’t stopped the SEC from putting together some monster clashes for the 2024 year, which will lack divisions. THE ‘WE JUST WALKED INTO A CAULDRON’ TEAM Texas will play Georgia and Florida at home, while going on the road to Arkansas (who hate their guts) and Texas A&M (who hate them even more). There’s also the Red River Rivalry to boot. Oh, and they also travel to the Big House to play Michigan (Home dates with Kentucky and Mississippi State and a road game at Vanderbilt make it a bit palatable, but STILL). Week 11 Review: Bad week for Kentucky, another one for Texas A&M

The news that Texas A&M had a shitty weekend is hardly surprising. Jimbo Fisher’s side is on one of the worst slide’s in his career, and certainly in the Aggies’ small SEC history. It’s so bad that you wouldn’t shocked if there’s the sort of field invasion that there was in 2021 when the Aggies turned over Alabama…even though the competition is UMass. This week it was a fired-up Auburn, who filled Jordan-Hare in the best atmosphere of the week despite having one of the worst SEC records of the lot. Week 9 Preview: Could Ole Miss put Jimbo in semi-serious trouble?

It’s a quiet schedule this week, with just five SEC games this week. One game – that was usually one of the brightest parts of the SEC calendar but has recently lost its luster – is Georgia v Florida/The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party – is now expected to be an ass-kicking. There’s only one ranked match-up (No.19 Kentucky at No.3 Tennessee), while No.15 Ole Miss’ trip to Texas A&M might well be one of the most interesting games on the schedule. The reason why? SEC Week 6: Tennessee continues to drop jaws, Arkansas just drops

South Carolina scored the most stunning win of the SEC calendar in Week 6 when they beat Kentucky on their own turf. Also, Texas A&M was a dumbass decision away from upsetting Alabama for the second year in a row on its own turf in a game plagued by turnovers, while Georgia happily destroyed Auburn. Otherwise, Tennessee went to Death Valley and destroyed LSU 40-13, Mississippi State took advantage of a porous Arkansas secondary (to put it mildly), Florida beat Missouri and Ole Miss did what was expected of them by beating Vanderbilt with a strong second half performance. Anyway, here are our Week 6 rankings… Tennessee (5-0): We all thought this would be a tight game in Death Valley.

Florida moved to Sunday, South Carolina to Thursday as Ian starts hitting

The SEC and other conferences will also be affected by Hurricane Ian, which is currently hammering the Florida coast. Florida‘s game with Eastern Washington has been moved to noon on Sunday, where viewers can watch it on ESPN+. Obviously, people with tickets for Saturday’s game can go on Sunday, but we are expecting The Swamp to have a pretty sparse crowd. Week 4 SEC rankings: Tennessee’s our No.1

This season, I have been consistently hit by the fact that Tennessee should be ranked as the No.1 team in the SEC, and maybe the No.2 team in the country. It’s not because of the Josh Heupel offense or because I’ve automatically decided that orange is my favorite colour – it’s because Tennessee has beaten two ranked sides, and Alabama and Georgia has only beaten one. There is no ‘common opponent’ between Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia. There will be when the Vols play both teams, but right now, the Vols have had the harder of all three schedules. Each have played SEC teams. Georgia and Alabama destroyed South Carolina and Vanderbilt respectively, but Tennessee beat a better opponent in Florida.
