Can a Lane Kiffin sacrifice finish Alabama’s season?

By the end of Wednesday, COVID-19 cases and precautions had taken out three SEC games. First was the one between Mississippi State and Auburn which was postponed on Monday. Then came the worries that LSU/Alabama was going to go after cases popped up with the Tigers. The same was with Texas A&M, after the school in College Station recorded positive cases on Monday . On Tuesday that was confirmed. LSU vs Alabama had been postponed, and so had Texas A&M vs Tennessee. The Auburn – Mississippi State was immediately moved to December 12th, where it will partner with LSU’s clash with Alabama and Vanderbilt’s trip to Missouri. But then comes the problem: Where do you stick the LSU vs Alabama

What is wrong with Vanderbilt?

What is going wrong at Vanderbilt? On Tuesday six more Vanderbilt players became unavailable for the Texas A&M game. There was one more opt-out. This time is was starting LB Feleti Afemui who became the sixth person to walk away from the 2020 season. Afemui joins kicker Oren Milstein and offensive linesmen Cole Clemens, Bryce Bailey, Jonathan Stewart and Stephen Spanellis in deciding to sit 2020 due to COVID-19 concerns. Then there was an injury to LB Elijah MacAllister and S Brandon Harris, and  LB Michael Owusu, who will miss Game No.1 because of COVID-19 quarantine. Harris was one of Vanderbilt’s leading tacklers last year.   The news has infuriated some of the Vandy faithful. On Twitter, @NotVandyOC said: “Look around the SEC and find another school

Why aren’t we hearing more about COVID-19 from SEC coaches?

Today Florida said that they had 7 COVID-19 cases on their team, up from six from last week. The news silenced practice for today – not great news for Dan Mullen’s team that start the season against Ole Miss on September 26th. Right now, practice is important. Earlier on, Ed Orgeron said about COVID-19: “”I think most — not all of our players — but most of our players have caught it… I think hopefully they don’t catch it again and hopefully they’re not out for games… I’m not going to say all of them…. But some players have caught it. I don’t know the percentage. Hopefully, that once you catch it, you don’t get it again.” Orgeron declined to talk about

Steve Spurrier’s ownership of Peyton Manning is legendary

Peyton Manning probably doesn’t give Steve Spurrier a second thought. After he’s a legend, he’s won two Super Bowls, and he’s been paid an awful lot of money to sell everything from insurance to pizza. Steve Spurrier probably doesn’t Peyton Manning a second thought. He’s a legend in the College Football world, and he’s one of the Kings of Smacktalk. But if you look closely, Steve Spurrier has gone 5-0 against Peyton Manning, and in snipey comments, probably more than that. He’s also 1-0 against the Manning family in Heismans, and has won 1 more National Championship, 5 more SEC titles and 15 more SEC East titles than the rest of the Manning family put together). He never played against

Texas A&M players test positive for COVID-19

An un-accounted for amount of Texas A&M have tested positive for COVID-19, the team has reported. Ross Bjork, the AD of the Aggies, said that ‘less than five’ players had tested positive for the virus, but declined to give further details (he’s basically in line with what’s been happening in Texas over recent months when it comes to COVID-19). “We knew we would have positive tests,” Bjork said. “That’s why you do the tests, to verify that your plan is working and to verify the health and safety of athletes, which is the most important thing. “Once there’s a positive test, there’s an action plan, we follow all the safety procedures.” As mentioned with our Alabama article last week, the

What happened to these SEC greats?

In life, there are SEC players we remember. We all know what happened to Peyton Manning, Matt Stafford and Julio Jones. On the other hand, we remember – sadly – what happened to Aaron Hernandez. But there are some players where you sit there and think: “Damn! What happened to these guys. They were GOOD in college”. So here are your players. We’ve gone with one or two per SEC team. So if you’ve got any further ideas, let us know. ALABAMA Tyrone Prothro: Playing in Tuscaloosa from 2003 to 2005, Prothro pulled off one of the most memorable, brilliant catches in 2002. It was so good it had me in tears. Then again, so did his career-ending injury that made

After winning the National Championship, LSU’s winning the offseason, too

The ‘Geaux Tigers’ and ‘Perfect’ newspaper front pages have long been picked up from Bourbon Street. The smell of vomit and stale alcohol still remains, but that’ll be covered up when another big party comes along this weekend. The ladies of the night are all driving Escalades now after the joyful celebrations of the Cajun many, and somewhere a story will emerge that a liver-affected Louisianan did try and hatch out of a plan to, er, visit one of Louisiana’s best-known striped friends to cap off one of the best season’s college football has ever seen. It seemed funny that the headline-stealer for the offseason was not the person who (probably) tried to play Dr Dolittle with Mike, but Odell Beckham
