The things each SEC team should be thankful for (and not!)

It’s Thanksgiving, so here’s one thing that each SEC team should – and should not – be thankful for (or maybe more) this year…

ALABAMA

Thankful: That Tommy Rees has finally worked out how to use Jalen Milroe. Suddenly they look like a machine again.

Not thankful: That it took Rees so long to figure this out, and now they are behind Texas, so it means that if UT wins out, they won’t get into the play-off for the second straight year. Which means Nick Saban’s trees are in trouble, folks!

ARKANSAS

Thankful: That the season’s going to end soon, and Sam Pittman will be out the door.

Not thankful: That there’s still one game to go in the season, and Sam Pittman’s still coaching.

AUBURN

Thankful: That one game against Arkansas when Auburn actually scored some points.

Not thankful: To the boosters for getting Gus Malzhan fired. They haven’t been the same since.

FLORIDA

Thankful: That wonderful night against Tennessee, when the Gators upset one of the SEC East’s (then) favorites.

Not thankful: The Chris Farley-led defense‘s laughably bad mistakes, most notably last week on 4th and 17 against Missouri, when they somehow managed to lose Luther Burden.

GEORGIA

Thankful: With Brock Bowers back, and the offense is really purring again.

Not thankful: They’ll probably lose DC Glenn Schumann next year to the NFL. He already interviewed for the Eagles as DC last year, which is frankly a better job (less kissing the behind of 18 year-olds ). If he’s interviewed again, he’ll probably go. And if it doesn’t work out, he’ll be able to come back to college football aged 43, having spent 10 years making good money drifting around the league.

KENTUCKY

Thankful: The transfer of Ray Davis, who’s going to get 1,000 yards rushing this year, unless Louisville suddenly becomes an incredible run-stopping team.

Not thankful: That transfer Devin Leary has turned out to be as underwhelming as transfer Will Levis was. Leary has taken the Wildcats absolutely nowhere, when he was widely considered the best transfer QB in the SEC. This is getting a little boring, Mark.

LSU

Thankful: Jayden Daniels. I’ll leave it there.

Not thankful: The defense. Again, I’ll leave it there.

Mississippi State

Thankful: That the one year experiment with Zach Arnett is over.

Not thankful: Having to watch that one year experiment with Zach Arnett, when the biggest highlight was a 7-3 win over Arkansas.

Missouri

Thankful: Kirby Moore: His appointment managed to force Eli Drinkwitz into a more head coach/less OC role, which helped everybody, including Luther Burden, Cody Shrader, Brady Cook, and one Thicker Kicker.

Not thankful for: Drinkwitz’s weird comment about Brady Cook and his daughters, which will live long in infamy.

Ole Miss

Thankful: Jaxson Dart and his merry band of receivers: Damn they are fun to watch!

Not thankful for: Lane Kiffin’s 1-10 record against Top 5 teams. This season it was the hammering on the road to Georgia. Kiffin is unbeaten in getting sued by former players this year, though.

South Carolina

Thankful: Xavier Legette is a first or second round wide receiver. Has managed to make the offense look a lot better than it is

Not thankful for: Injuries to the offensive line. Spencer Rattler was lucky not to be on crutches by Week 7.

Tennessee

Thankful: The run against Georgia. Yeah, that’s about it.

Not thankful for: The decision not to bench Joe Milton in favour of freshman sensation Nico Iamaleava when it was obvious to anyone watching that ‘Nico’ was a far better QB.

Texas A&M

Thankful: The Jimbo Fisher reign is over. It had pissed off a lot of Aggies fans for the last year. Cool with the LSU win, enraged with the stream of close losses.

Not thankful for: Yet another trip to the coaching carousel. It’s getting boring.

Vanderbilt

Thankful: That the basketball team and baseball team are going to be competitive this year, so they don’t have to think about the football team.

Not thankful for: That Clark Lea is still in charge. The grumbling Vandy fans have moved to ‘Very Angry’, and yet it seems that the AD isn’t listening.
