SEC Rankings: Missouri flies up

  1. Georgia: The injury to Brock Bowers is obviously going to hurt the Bulldogs, but the fact that there are alternatives – and good wide receivers that will help Kirby feel happier about life. Also: The defense will be able to step up. As they usually do.
  2. Alabama: The offensive line is less of a problem than people think. Jalen Milroe hasn’t been great with his decision-making, which means he gets sacked lots. But right now, Nick Saban’s team’s all about running the ball down the opposition’s throat….and they are very good at doing that.
  3. LSU: The loss to Ole Miss is looking more and more like a blip. The defense rebounded well against Missouri and even better against Auburn, although the second team’s offense was absolutely moribund. Oh, and Jayden Daniels should be talked about for a Heisman.
  4. Ole Miss: The offense remains extremely capable, and the defense is doing just fine. Why are we putting the team that beat LSU below LSU in our standings? Simple. LSU played during Ole Miss’ bye week. And they were great.
  5. Missouri: Missouri’s demolition of Kentucky after being 14-0 is beginning to make us believers in Drinkwitz and Brady Cook. We were already believers in Luther Burden.
  6. Florida: QB Graham Mertz had the best game of his career against South Carolina, and he’s got the receivers to do some damage. We have little trust in the defense, but they could be a pest along the way.
  7. Tennessee: Joe Milton is not the truth, and the offense isn’t great without Bru McCoy. With the way the A&M’s passing defense is, they should have beaten them by more. They didn’t.
  8. Texas A&M: The boo-boys are already screaming for Jimbo Fisher’s head, now that the Aggies once again will not compete for a SEC West by October. The injury to Conor Weigman obviously hurts – and we love Evan Stewart – but the Aggies seem to make too many stupid mistakes. And the Bobby Petrino offense has not zip on it. Maybe Petrino should be calling student operation for advice. He can chat to them on Motorbike rides.
  9. South Carolina: Spencer Rattler’s great, when Spencer Rattler has the time. Unfortunately, Spencer Rattler’s offensive line doesn’t give him any. And the defense is pretty bad too. Shane Beamer’s foot would agree.
  10. Kentucky: Devin Leary was meant to be one of the best quarterback transfers in the SEC, and one of the best in the country. He’s been awful. That means that when defenses block off Ray Davis, the Wildcats are screwed. See the outings against Georgia and Missouri for details.
  11. Mississippi State: I’m trying to think of what excites me about the Bulldogs this season, and I can’t think of anything. The offense needs to let Will Rogers be Will Rogers (ie let him throw all day long), and offensively they’ll be fine. But we’re not expecting a lot from Zach Arnett’s team, anyway.
  12. Arkansas: Put up quite the battle against Alabama by the end, but KJ Jefferson’s monumental effort couldn’t get them the stunning upset. For the first time in a while, we had ourselves fooled into these words: “Maybe they aren’t as bad as I think they are”. Still, the stove is brewing hot underneath Sam Pittman’s sizable behind.
  13. Vanderbilt: The Commodores got 20 points against Georgia, which was the first time in years they’ve attained those heights. Had Kirby Smart gone for it at the end at 37-20 it would have been 44-20, but there we go. Things seem to be looking up (a little).
  14. Auburn: Right now, there’s nothing going for the Tigers at the moment. The Arkansas game should be a real test as to who can finish second bottom in the SEC West.
