Vandy WR transfers to Alcorn State

Vanderbilt wide receiver CJ Bolar is transferring to Alcorn State of the MEAC for the rest of his collegiate career. The 6-1 player from Mississippi came into the SEC  as a 3-star recruit, ranked as the 105th-best wide receiver in the nation and the 13th-best in the state. Bolar had an excellent freshman year, catching 34 receptions for 440 yards and two TDs and rushing for 24 yards on just two rushes. In his sophomore year he played nine games of an injury-plagued season and had 11 receptions for 79 yards. You wonder how good Vanderbilt’s offense would have been with him playing. Leading into his time in Nashville, Bolar had offers from – amongst others – Mississippi State, Tennessee, Memphis,

Two offensive, one defensive players leave Auburn

Two offensive players and one defensive one have decided to leave Gus Malzahn’s dressing room at Auburn in pursuit of better opportunities. Junior WR Nate Craig-Myers and TE Jalen Harris have both decided to walk, spurred on by the fact that players don’t lose eligibility if they don’t feature in more than 4 games in a team’s season. Craig-Myers, who had just 22 receptions for a total of 394 yards (and 4 TDs) will be walking away with his half-brother, DB Jayvaughn Mayers, who’s a back-up defensive back. He will interest schools because of his blistering speed. He’s averaged 17.4 yards per reception for the Tigers, and will be remembered fondly for touchdowns against Georgia and Alabama at the end of

Star Tennessee RB to transfer?

Tennessee running back Jalen Hurd has told Butch Jones as well as his teammates that he wants to transfer, according to reports. Hurd apparently wants to play wide receiver and tight end at his new school – something he’s not doing in VolWorld. Hurd has 451 yards rushing and 3 TDs and 81 yards receiving and 2 TDs. He was injured for the Texas A&M game and was ineffective in his return games against Alabama and South Carolina. Tennessee staff said Hurd, a junior would meet with Jones later in the day. This is hardly wonderful news in a difficult three weeks for Tennessee, which has seen their team lose three straight painful games – especially last Saturday’s stunning loss

Who will win the SEC West QB battles?

Here are the QB battles from each of the SEC teams – even when they’re unwarranted (we see you, Ole Miss) before spring practices begins on March 1st. Alabama Blake Barnett vs Cooper Bateman vs David Cornwell  The biggest conversation in college football will be about the Crimson Tide’s quarterback battle, and Barnett’s the big favorite to win it. He’s got the arm, and according to former QB Greg McElroy, played well on the scout team. Bateman’s speed gives the Tide options, too. Whatever happens, Lane Kiffin’s going to turn this QB into something special. Call him the QB whisperer. Projected Winner: Barnett Auburn Jeremy Johnson vs Sean White vs Woody Barrett vs John Franklin III After an awful quarterbacking

Spurrier confirms addition of transfer safety

Steve Spurrier has said that the Gamecocks will be adding a graduate transfer safety from Kansas this off-season. Speaking on the Paul Finebaum Show at the SEC Spring meetings in Destin, FL, The Head Ball coach said: “I hope that’s not against the rules,” he added. “We think he’s got to get in grad school and do some stuff. Our conference – if they’ve had issues before – would frown on us taking a player like that.” He added: “It’s just one year. Maybe he’s gone to a place where things haven’t worked out or maybe he played on a team that doesn’t win that much and he wants to go and play on a successful team. Let ’em play.

Mark Richt comes out combative over Georgia drug rules

Mark Richt is used to criticism as head coach of the University of Georgia. Every year people place him on the hot-seat for either not beating South Carolina, or not beating Auburn, or losing a game they should win, or not beating a team by enough, and 2015 won’t be any different – although after beating Clemson and LSU, maybe the seat’s a LITTLE cooler. Richt’s also had his fair share of criticism about Georgia’s drug policy, which has seen the school suspend or boot a number of players over his time between the hedges. However, at the SEC Media Days in Hoover, AL, he was unrepentant. He said: “We don’t want our guys to do drugs, okay? I don’t

Texas A&M QB to transfer

Texas A&M quarterback Matt Joeckel is to transfer, the school said today. He will eligible for the 2014 season immediately, as he has already graduated from College Station. As a back-up for Johnny Manziel, Joeckel saw virtually no action for the Aggies, and with in-coming freshmen Kyle Allen and Kenny Hill obviously bigger frontrunners than Joeckel in the battle for the starting job, Joeckel judiciously saw it was time to leave. Joeckel managed 27 throws, 335 yards and 2 TDs in a 2-year career for the Aggies.

Harvey-Clemons amassed 66 tackles, three fumble recoveries and an interceptions for the Dawgs last season, despite being suspended for two games.

The paper reports that NFL QB Philip Rivers – Stephen’s brother – in an interview with ESPN.com, said that LSU was giving Rivers his release with no restrictions on where he can go, as he graduates in May. We’ll try to get a word.” Rivers is not thought to be favored for the LSU starter’s job now Zach Mettenberger has graduated, with sophomore Anthony Jennings and freshman Brandon Harris both thought to be favorites.
