Evan Stewart enters the transfer portal

If things couldn’t have gotten a lot worse after the Jimbo Fisher era for Texas A&M, the school’s best receiver – Evan Stewart – has entered the transfer portal.

Alabama, Texas and Florida are said to be vying for his signature, with Alabama deemed to be top of the food chain in that department.

If Alabama or Texas wins out, then it automatically gives them fuel for the play-off, while for Florida, it would change the momentum of Billy Napier’s program.

I put out a tweet saying: “Holy shit! Didn’t see that one coming!”, but then I thought again.

This had been rumored for weeks.

Either it was Stewart’s camp putting fuel into the fire to get teams wanting his services to get their purses ready, or it was schools trying to tell Stewart’s camp: “Hey, we’ve got the money”, or it was speculation from Aggies fans screaming ‘tampering’, but regardless, the player – who has instantly become the second-highest ranked player in the Transfer Portal behind his former teammate Walter Nolen (that discussion is getting inordinately dull in itself) – is in.

The wide receiver who – in our view – would have been good enough to go pro after this freshman year.

In his first two years – of which his second one he was hampered by an injury in the last two games – he’s had 1,163 yards receiving with six TDs, with an average yards/play of 12.8. In other words, the kid canĀ burn.

Now imagine what these figures might have been like with a competent, first-string quarterback.

For fun reasons, we can’t wait to see where he ends up.

For Texas A&M’s sake, they’ll hope it’s not the SEC.
