Mississippi State has signed three-star quarterback Chason Virgil. Virgil, who hails from Vesquite, TX, is 6ft-2 and 170lb, and is ranked 23rd in the nation in pro-style quarterbacks and 55th in the State of Texas. “I called Coach (Brian) Johnson and I had already told him two days ago that I wanted to commit but I knew they were so busy earlier in the week. Mississippi State OC hired by Texas

Mississippi State offensive co-ordinator Les Koenning – fresh from a bowl victory and a win in the Egg Bowl over Ole Miss – is leaving Starkville to be the new wide receivers coach at Texas, according to the Clarion-Ledger. The Clarion-Ledger noted: “Under Koenning’s guidance MSU’s offense set numerous school records, culminating in 13 this season. He also worked with the quarterbacks developing both Tyler Russell and Dak Prescott. Russell leaves the program with a handful of single season passing records. Many analysts are calling Prescott a sleeper for next year’s Heisman.” This season Mississippi State – with Tyler Russell injured for most of the season and Dak Prescott replacing him – was 43rd  in the nation in total rushing

Nick Saban to Texas, Or Not?

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock or taking selfies at Nelson Mandela’s funeral, you’d probably heard the news and rumors that Nick Saban is leaving Alabama to become the new head coach at Texas. First of all Texas Longhorns website Orangebloods.com followed up a weekend of rumors that Saban was going to Texas by saying that UT coach Mack Brown was out. Brown himself said that he wasn’t leaving, saying that he was on a recruiting trip to Florida, telling Jimmy Burch at Horns247: “I’m in Florida recruiting. Here come the Tigers!!! SEC Power Rankings Week 7

Right, it was a pretty nuts absolutely ****ing crazy weekend in college football. CRAZY. Stanford goes down to Utah.  4 overtimes in Happy Valley see Michigan lose to Penn State. Several ranked teams struggle….including Clemson and Baylor. In the SEC, injury-hit Georgia (almost predictably….apart from Vegas) lost to Missouri, who had a BIG INJURY of their own. Florida was awful in its loss at LSU, who found a defense for the first time this season. Oh, and Johnny Football was Johnny Football. Anyway, here’s our SEC Power Rankings, which are proving increasingly difficult. 1) Alabama: This one’s pretty easy. Alabama maybe caused themselves one of the biggest upsets of the season, by coming out of the first quarter with Kentucky scoreless.

Gators rising- SEC Power Rankings Week 6

Georgia came through Knoxville ‘scathed’ but with an overtime victory. South Carolina survived a furious comeback from Kentucky. Auburn survived a furious comeback from Ole Miss. LSU blew an early lead against Mississippi State and then hit another gear and blew ’em out. Florida and Arkansas was a nasty game…and not in a good way. Alabama had no problems with Georgia State…apart from keeping the score down. Oh, and in the ‘Under-The-Radar Game Of The Day’….Missouri destroyed Vanderbilt…which really impressed us. 1) Bama- Not about today’s destruction of GSU (it could have been 70, let’s face it!), but this team’s D and no little offense is the best team in the country. 2) Florida- Defense is nasty. Nick Saban’s agent spoke with a Texas regent, according to a report from the Associated Press. The AP report – which does nothing to scotch rumors that the Alabama coach might become the next coach at Texas after Mack Brown leaves at the end of the season – said: “Regent Wallace Hall of Dallas told the AP he spoke by telephone with agent Jimmy Sexton a few days after the Jan. 7 title game. Note to SEC: Texas A&M needs another Thanksgiving Rival

As y’all know by this blog, we love the SEC and we’re really happy that two teams have been added to the SEC schedule. Missouri’s going to be a  cold and difficult place for rivals to play in the East, and Texas A&M’s going to be a deafening place to play in the West. But let’s be honest – when it became known that Texas A&M was not going to play Texas anymore, it ripped a lot out of college football’s soul.
