Texas & Oklahoma to come to SEC in 2024

Finally, we know when Texas and Oklahoma are coming the SEC. It will be in 2024. The deal with the Big 12, ESPN and FOX was thrashed out, with Fox – who would lose a bunch of game inventory – including the Red River Shoot-Out in 2024 – being the major losers in the situation – finally coming around to a deal where they would be ‘paid back’ in inventory. I’m sure that FOX also ensured themselves on ‘first pick’ of Texas and Oklahoma’s non-conference games or something like that. Apparently, there was a deal in which the match-up between 2024 and 2027 between Michigan will now start in Ann Arbor and move to Austin three years later. Also, Fox

Georgia is Thanos, Get out of the way

When Kirby Smart started rolling out the classes that he did, Georgia fans went from the ‘expecting-but-really-hoping’ type to ‘expecting’ type. This season, with Alabama disappointing as much as they did, Georgia has become inevitable. Inevitable teams in college football don’t sideswipe others out of the way. Remember Thanos had his struggles with The Avengers before eventually taking things over. Georgia’s struggles weren’t with the best of ’em. They were plain bad against Kent State and even worse against Missouri, but came through those battles. And the war against Ohio State? Week 2 Ratings: Texas A&M leads the headlines (and not in a good way)

Although everyone was focussed about a little game in Austin pitching two of the most hated superpowers in College Football against each other, the biggest result against happened in (relative) far away College Station, when Texas A&M was defeated 17-14 by Appalachian State, capping off a wonderful weekend for the Sun Belt. Elsewhere, Kentucky surprised Florida and made AR looking ordinary, KJ Jefferson led Arkansas to a convincing win over South Carolina and Missouri was kerb-stomped by Kansas State. Most of the other games went to form. Personally speaking, our big whiff was predicting a Vanderbilt win over Wake Forest. We didn’t think Sam Hartman would be back for the Demon Deacons. Prayers from the SEC

As we know, the ‘Supreme’ Court made a ruling yesterday that public school officials could pray, because it’s a First Amendment thing. With that in mind, here’s a few public SEC figures that we think could deliver one hell of a prayer. And this includes Texas and Oklahoma, because we believe in Prophecy (Manning 3: 42). Arch Manning’s decision to go to Texas was ‘Austin Weird’

There’s a horrible expression in Austin that goes “Keep Austin Weird”. In the 70s, it worked. The SEC Future: How a 3-6 schedule would work

Everyone talked about the new SEC schedule. Regardless of what Greg Sankey would love to say, the SEC is going to follow the Pac-12 – (and Big 12 a few years before that, incidentally), and go for a system where the best two team in the SEC play each other in the SEC Championship Game. And that system would be 9 games, and not 8. One thing’s that’s not going to happen is the ‘1-8 schedule’ (1 permanent rival, and 7 revolving rivals), because that will mean that a lot of key TV assets won’t play each other, not to mention Georgia v Auburn, or Alabama v LSU, and Texas v Texas A&M. Big Ten, Pac-12, ACC are moving to Conference-only games

And so the dominos continue to fall. According to multiple media sources, the Big Ten, ACC and Pac-12 have all decided that they will play a nine-game conference-only season It is an effort to cut down the season and make it work, as well as give schools some wiggle-room if there an outbreak of COVID-19 on teams and campuses. For the SEC a bunch of non-conference games will be affected, including (sadly), Clemson vs South Carolina, Georgia vs Georgia Tech, Louisville vs Kentucky and Florida State vs Florida. Florida incoming freshman player arrested (again)

Florida incoming freshman cornerback – and four-star recruit Justin Watkins has been arrested for the second time in three months. He has been suspended indefinitely by coach Dan Mullen. Watkins’ first arrest was trespassing on another high school’s grounds that he didn’t attend (which isn’t a big one), but a quadruple felony. This included two first-degree counts of kidnap (false imprisonment), a third-degree count of domestic battery by strangulation, according to records. The freshman was offered by Alabama, LSU, Florida State, Clemson and Texas before deciding to go to Gainseville. Looks as though he’s going somewhere else after this short stint.
