If Georgia wins out, the Play-Off Committee has problems

The day we’ve all been waiting for is coming on Thursday. No, it’s not Armageddon our chance to be taken up to heaven. No, it’s not that time that we get the call from Heidi Klum offering to meet her for a date. It’s better than that. It’s the first release of the College Football Play-Off Committee’s 1-2-3-4. This Tuesday the Committee rated their 1 to 4 as Ohio State, LSU, Alabama and Penn State. Clemson was 5th, Georgia 6th, followed by Oregon, Utah, Oklahoma and Florida. In other words, the SEC owned the Top 10. But if Georgia wins out, this could create a monstrous nightmare for the Committee. THE IDEAL SCENARIO: Alabama beats LSU comfortably/ LSU beats Alabama

We admit it. We followed the bandwagon and predicted that Florida would beat Georgia at the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party. After all, Florida was bringing back two of its biggest defensive guns in Zuniga and Grennard. Georgia had been uninventive. Todd Grantham was incredible. Whatever happens on Sunday, Georgia will have a National Championship winner

The University of Georgia will come out as a winner of a national championship in 2019. Sadly, it’s not THE National Championship, but it’s the National Championship for Pros- the Super Bowl. On one side is one of the most destructive running backs Georgia football ever saw – despite injuries – in Todd Gurley (St Louis Rams), and the other is the ankle-breaking speedster Sony Michael (New England Patriots). In their times between the hedges, Gurley had 3,900 total yards and 46 TDs (in just 30 games because of injury and suspension), while Michel had 4,234 yards and 39 TDs. This season, both posted excellent years. Gurley posted his second-straight 1,000-yard season this year and his third in four seasons.

How are you not excited? The 2018 SEC Championship Game between Georgia and Alabama will pit two of the biggest – if not the biggest – players in the SEC. It’s a rematch of the 2018 National Championship Game – the greatest game of the season last year. It’s a rematch of mentor vs mentee. Georgia’s move to No.4 creates a real headache

Georgia is back in the College Football Play-Off standings, folks. The 11-1 Bulldogs moved to No.4 in the standings behind Alabama, Clemson and Notre Dame. Behind the Dawgs are Oklahoma and Ohio State. Georgia moved up because their comfortable win against Georgia Tech twinned with Michigan’s monster loss to Ohio State. Big Blue fell out of the mix, and was leapfrogged by Oklahoma (who won in a shoot-out at West Virginia) and the Buckeyes. THE HEADACHE AND PERMUATIONS If Georgia beats Alabama, they are in. And the SEC probably gets two teams into the play-off because Alabama has been excellent all year long and passes the ‘eye test’. eorWorking out an order for who are the best teams in the SEC is hard work. While No.1 (Alabama) is easy, then it becomes a headache. LSU has a claim because it battered No.2 Georgia last week. Florida has a claim because it beat LSU. Kentucky has a claim because it beat Florida. Georgia will have a claim if it beats Florida (although it will strengthen LSU’s position at the moment).
