Mike Slive has announced that he is to step down as SEC Commissioner at end-July 2015, citing a reoccurring of his prostate cancer.

“I have been blessed in more ways than I can count and I will have as much passion for this job on my last day as I did on my first,” said Slive.  “I consider my health situation a temporary detour in a remarkable road that has allowed me to meet amazing people, experience incredible events and celebrate historic victories.  I will relish my final year in this position and look forward to being the biggest fan of the SEC for many years to come.”

The release from the SEC said that his prognosis is “good”, although his travel plans will be curtailed in the short-to-near term future.

Under Slive, the SEC has enjoyed unprecedented success as a conference, effectively owning college football over the best part of the last decade, and he was instrumental in the deal with ESPN that gave the SEC its own network, giving the member schools a multi-billion dollar deal.

Another week, another incredible weekend for the State of Mississippi. Who would have thought that suddenly The Magnolia State would become the Disneyland of football?

Oh, and our ears are still ringin’….

1.   Mississippi State
 
Despite not having their best day offensively what with all their turnover problems, MSU still came through to beat Auburn amid one of the loudest stadiums ever witnessed. It was awesome to see how pissed off the College Gameday guys were getting with all that clanging. We put Mississippi State up top because they’ve beaten three straight ranked teams- even though LSU really isn’t very good.

2.   Ole Miss
 
Just destroyed Texas A&M in all facets of the game in a tremendous performance at Kyle Field on Saturday night. 35-20 just doesn’t indicate how close the game actually WASN’T. Bo Wallace is doing simple things with the offense, but dear  God, that defense? It’s for real, yo. And Robert Nkemdiche looks like NFL-ready ALREADY.

3.   Auburn
 
Terrible mistakes early on punished the Tigers, putting themselves in a 21-0 hole early on in the game in Starkville. Later, it was the refs who ‘punished’ the Tigers with some decidedly awful decisions, including non-existent pass interference calls or the same call that WASN’T made when Auburn receivers were getting mugged. Anyway, Nick Marshall had a good game, but Auburn’s going to be just fine.

4.   Alabama
 
Bad doesn’t cover how awfully Alabama played at Arkansas on Saturday. They should have lost. Nick Saban looked ready to kill his team, as well as his coaching staff on Saturday night, as the sloppy Tide looked all over the place in a loud Fayetteville. Still, they came away with the 14-13 victory, but the bandwagon fans are beginning to leap across the border to Oxford or Starkville.

5.   Texas A&M
 
Wow. So a noisy stadium doesn’t help you if your offense gets completely choked by a dominant defense and you can’t stop the offense? We learn something new everyday. This young A&M side will be fine in 2015, but right now, they’d be overjoyed with 8-4. Next week? Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

6.   Georgia
 
No Gurley, no problem. The Bulldogs played the most complete game of any SEC team on Saturday, stunning Missouri on the road in a 35-0 trouncing. Nick Chubb took the rock at running back in the place of Gurley, carrying for nearly 40 times. Georgia fans will be praying he doesn’t get injured or suspended before the team’s monster road game with Arkansas.

7.   Arkansas
 
For the second game in a row, it was the miscues that killed the Razorbacks against ranked opposition. They should be 2-0 against A&M and Alabama, but the mistakes ensure that they are 0-2. We believe in Jonathan Williams and Alex Collins at running back, but we don’t believe in the Razorbacks’ passing game yet. Still, there is time for Brandon Allen. Fayetteville will be rocking for the visit of Georgia on Saturday.

8.   LSU
 
Les. F****. Miles. That’s all there is to say. We don’t know what deal he did with some Bayou Witch Doctor, but it must have been pretty good to get LSU past the winning post on Saturday at The Swamp. Easy dropped pass in the end zone? Check. 50-yard field goal? Check. Oh that, and LSU’s trip to Florida was the (unpredicted) SEC game of the week. We still don’t think LSU’s very good though.

9.   Kentucky

Started poorly then hit second and third gear against ULM to win comfortably. Mark Stoops has got something going in the Bluegrass State, people.

10.                Missouri
 
Mauk-Tober? Maybe next year. Comfortably beaten at home by Georgia. All Missouri seemed to do was turn the ball over. This is not a good team in a mediocre division.

11.                South Carolina
 
Struggled with bye week, but came through eventually.

12.                Florida
Heartbreaking home loss to  LSU in the The Swamp, for a ton of reasons. This was a game the Gators should have won, but an easy dropped pass in the end zone KILLED them at the end. But thankfully (and more importantly), injured WR Latroy Pittman’s is out of hospital.
13.                Tennessee
Coasted past Chattanooga 45-10 in a convincing victory. You know, as convincing as being a FCS team can be.
14.                Vanderbilt

I’ll be honest: I’d never heard of Charleston Southern before as a football power, but they came within two points of beating the SEC’s very own Vanderbilt. To cap it all, Vanderbilt really sucks. This is the worst team in the SEC by quite a mile.

The Florida Gators have reinstated freshman quarterback Treon Harris after his accuser withdrew her complaint, ESPN has reported.

Although Harris won’t be playing the LSU game, he is free to return to the team. Will Muschamp, Florida’s coach said: “We have been notified that the University and legal process is complete… This has been a learning experience for everyone involved. Treon has been honest with me throughout the process and is looking forward to rejoining his teammates.”

ESPN added: “Harris’ attorneys said Thursday that the accuser was “the sexual aggressor with not one, but two, young men last Sunday morning” and that the woman showed “no indication of any physical or mental trauma” after the alleged incident.“

On a weekend that the No.2 team in the nation go and play the No. 3 team, and the team which beat Alabama goes down to a cauldron of noise to play in butt-hurt Texas, it’s funny how one incident can steal a spotlight for another team completely.

And that incident and spotlight was stolen by Georgia, which has suspended their Heisman Trophy candidate/frontrunner indefinitely because he was photographed signing autographs (apparently he accepted $400 to do it in the spring).

It’s strange, because there’s also spotlight on Florida, which suspended QB Treon Harris while it investigates an accusation of sexual assault against him.

I mean, it’s weird out West at the moment, but it might be even weirder out in the East. With all that said, here is your Week 7 SEC Predictions.

No.2 Auburn (5-0) at No.3 Mississippi State (5-0)

College Gameday liked the State of Mississippi so much that it’s swapping the friendly confines of The Grove in Oxford for the clanging confines of Starkville, for Auburn’s visit to Mississippi State. And you know what? If last Saturday’s game was Ole Miss’ upset over Alabama was a simple upset (and everyone bar Katy Perry was calling for ‘Bama to win (shows how much I know about football!) this game’s going to be genuinely difficult to call. Both teams have Heisman candidate quarterbacks in Nick Marshall and Dak Prescott. Both QBs are good with their arms and use their speed on their legs to great effect. Both teams have solid running games, with the edge probably going to Mississippi State and Josh Robinson – although Auburn’s Cameron Artis-Payne is hardly a slouch (and Marshall does a lot of running, too). Both offenses post up around 42 points per game.Both teams have pretty good defenses, with Auburn owning better numbers. Auburn’s already got an experience of a tough road environment, having pulled off The Win They Shouldn’t Have Had at Kansas State, and so the bells and smells of Starkville won’t shock them. Oh, and last week, Auburn cruised against LSU, while Mississippi State sent Kenny Hill and Texas A&M back to College Station with needin’ a cuddle from one of a Texas Sweetheart.

PREDICTION: Auburn’s a 3-point favorite. We’re going with Mississippi State with the upset.

No.3 Ole Miss (5-0) at No. 14 Texas A&M (5-1)

It’s going to be really ****ing noisy at Kyle Field on Saturday. The Aggies are pissed after the loss to Mississippi State, especially in a game where they couldn’t stop anyone, and their receivers dropped more balls than a 3-year-old trying to juggle like Coco The Clown. Kenny Hill lost his Heisman vote by playing pretty badly, too. The late TDs masked what was a shelling in Starkville, and now, the Aggies WANT Ole Miss. And they want Ole Miss BAD. Ole Miss comes in after pulling off one of the upsets of the season when it beat Alabama on Saturday. Ole Miss players might tell you how they “expected to win”, and they probably did. Sure as hell we didn’t, and probably all of Oxford didn’t, either. Jeez, the fans are so happy up there they’ve bought replacement goalposts and paid off Ole Miss’ $50,000 SEC fine in a matter of minutes. The Egg Bowl is looming large as The Biggest Game Of 2014, and suddenly everyone’s expecting both sides to remain unbeaten until that Thanksgiving date. Ole Miss’ got the defense to hold up against Kevin Sumlin, but will it have the energy? And will A&M’s receivers be able to catch the ball this time? Not that we endorse gambling in any shape or form, but Texas A&M’s a 2-point favorite with the bookies.

PREDICTION: We’re going with the Aggies to win by 7 in a classic. 

No. 13 Georgia (4-1) at No.23 Missouri (4-1)

With Todd Gurley out, No.2 Georgia RB Nick Chubb’s going to have to shoulder Georgia’s hopes of a SEC East title, an appearance in the SEC Championship Game, and the possible spot in the College Football Play-Off. He’s been averaging a pretty impressive 7.2 yards per carry, including strong performances against Clemson and Vanderbilt. He’ll need to be Superman on Saturday, particularly against a Missouri front that’s heard all week that they can’t stop the run worth-a-crap (some of that might be true, bearing in mind they give up 144.6 yards per game and have given up 9 TDs on the floor). And Georgia will suddenly be dependent on their QB, Hutson Mason, who’s hardly inspired the Bulldogs this season, and is currently in the middle of a little QB controversy himself with Brice Ramsey. Mason’s been pretty ordinary this year, but in Columbia, he’ll need to use weapons like the returning Malcolm Mitchell and Justin Scott-Wesley, and Chris Conley to bring home the bacon. And despite all of the Gurley stuff, Georgia’s STILL a 3-point favorite with Vegas. On the other side, Georgia’s secondary has (mostly) been suspended, so Maty Mauk should have a field day with them on Saturday. Should, you know, being the opposite word.

PREDICTION: Happy Mauk-tober, Missouri fans. Missouri win by 10. 

No. 7 Alabama (4-1) at Arkansas (3-2)

If there’s ever a time to play Alabama, it’s right now. The Crimson Tide is hurting, and it’s hurting bad. Their offense wasn’t just stymied, it was CHOKED against Ole Miss. The running game – suffering with the early injury to Kenyan Drake – was pretty much shut down, and Derrick Henry – dare we say it – looked actually ordinary. Arkansas, on the other side, has been waiting two weeks for this game. Fayetteville’s going to be absolutely rocking. The Razorbacks should have had Texas A&M as the ‘W’, but blew it, and want to get the SEC Oh-fer off their backs. Alex Collins and Jonathan Williams are the heroes of an rushing offense that continues to punch, but Alabama’s going to be prepared and ready for that. Will Brandon Allen be able to deliver at the QB position, we wonder? The good thing for Alabama is that reverting to the rushing game against Arkansas is going to suit them down to the ground. The Arkansas ‘D’ gives up 139.4 yards/game and is ranked 51st in the country. It’s poor. Amari Cooper can – and will – hurt Arkansas’ secondary. Why? Because he’s the best wide receiver in the land. Alabama’s a 9-point favorite.

PREDICTION: Arkansas’ a 9-point dog at home, and we either feel that Alabama’s going to struggle all day against the atmosphere and the hangover of the loss of the week before, or the Crimson Tide rebound and this’ll be over by half-time. We think the latter. Alabama by 14. 

LSU (4-2) at Florida (3-1)

“Momma, do I have to?” said the 14-year-old kid upon hearing that yes, he’d be going to The Swamp to watch LSU and Florida play on Saturday. A good student in college football, he saw both sides play last week, and he’d rather doing ANYTHING than spend 3 hours in the company of these two awful programs. Live. And while the kid saw Florida’s offense be dire but pull out the ‘W’ against Tennessee (the last time the Vols won this match-up, he was 4), thanks to QB Treon Harris, he also saw LSU be completely and utterly dire in all facets of the game at Auburn. “If that’s a Tiger I’m ****in’ Captain America”, he said, reminding himself that in his Christian household, it was OK to swear while watching a shitty football teams. Florida then surprised him mid-week by suspending starting QB Treon Harris, while he heard from his buddy at LSU that fans were begging Anthony Jennings to get caught up in an autograph scandal, so he MIGHT be suspended. Good luck on Saturday, kid….And think of this as a father/son bonding experience. You can both come out of this and say: “That was TERRIBLE”, and talk about the reasons why.

PREDICTION: This is going to be awful. Florida’s a 1-point favorite. The atmosphere will be more ‘I don’t care’ than “Go Gators”. The over/under is 47. We’re taking the under on that, folks.

UL Monroe (3-2) vs Kentucky (4-1)

ULM already has a ‘Big 5’ win under its belt after beating the Football Giant Wake Forest 17-10 in Week 1, and they’ll be thirsting for more. The problem is is that they are so damned medicore in all parts of the game, and you can’t see anything but Kentucky starting slow then rolling. And yes, we know that half of Kentucky’s still buried in moonshine and bourbon after their win over South Carolina this week, but they should outwar the Warhawks. Vegas has the ‘Cats to win this by 21.

PREDICTION: Kentucky by 28.

Charleston Southern (5-0) at Vanderbilt (1-5, 0-4)

If Vanderbilt don’t win this, Derek Mason could be going down with an anchor attached to his neck. And Mason will need to win – but he sure as hell won’t win a game in the SEC this year!

PREDICTION: Vandy by 21. 

UT-Chattanooga (3-2) vs Tennessee (2-3)

“Congrats to Butch Jones and Tennessee for scheduling such a tough home opponent. They should be applauded for this” – Nobody.

PREDICTION: Tennessee by 41.

The only word we had to say for this news when we saw it was: “Wow”. Today Georgia suspended its best player and Heisman hopeful running back Todd Gurley indefinitely for an “alleged violation of NCAA rules”.

According to Andy Staples at Sports Illustrated – who cites Georgia’s compliance department,  “Gurley was paid $400 to sign 80 items in Athens last spring“, and there is photo evidence of Gurley doing the deed.

“I’m obviously very disappointed,” said UGA head football coach Mark Richt. “The important thing for our team is to turn all our attention toward preparation for Missouri.”

Allegedly Gurley was paid for signing signatures, according to a post from Reddit and Fox Sports’ Bruce Feldman.

Fox Sports’ update says: “One source tells FOX Sports’ Bruce Feldman that the investigation is looking into whether Gurley accepted extra benefits for his likeness with memorabilia brokers.”

This isn’t the first time that national college football stars have found themselves in deep water with the NCAA. Johnny Manziel signed helmets but was only give a half-game suspension. Jadeveon Clowney signed helmets but somehow avoided investigation. If this happens to Gurley, it’s likely that UGA will only suspend him one game at the most. But then again, it’s UGA.

UGA AD Greg McGarrity said in a statement: “While the University does not tolerate any violation of NCAA rules, the University has supported and continues to support its student-athletes. As just one example, when this matter arose, the University offered separate legal counsel to Todd; the University recommended — and Todd retained — counsel with vast experience with eligibility matters; and the University continues to pay for Todd’s counsel, as permitted by NCAA rules.”

The person who sold Gurley down the river was a memorabilia broker called Bryan Allen. Needless to say, he’s not popular with Georgia fans.

BOTTOM LINE: This isn’t a huge loss or massive loss for Mark Richt’s team. It’s a GARGANTUAN loss. With Keith Marshall and Sony Michel injured, all the pressure’s going to be on Nick Chubb and a poor QB in Hutson Mason to deliver. Missouri should now be  10-point favorite at home to UGA on Saturday.

There is a smell around Tiger Stadium, and despite what Katy Perry says, it’s not corndogs and it’s certainly not bourbon. It feels – and smells – like a funeral.

That shouldn’t be surprising, because Death Valley has prided itself on being the place where opposition teams’ – and their fans’ hopes go to die. Now, the fanbase- complete with a multi-million dollar new addition the stadium – are feeling the stench of the death upon them as a program, punch-drunk by successive monster losses, falls to its knees like a heavyweight boxer lit up by consecutive Mike Tyson punches.

At the start of the season, people weren’t as angry at Les Miles, because they came back from the dead to beat Wisconsin. Since then, they’ve won the games they should do against minor opposition, and in the big unveiling of the new south end zone expansion, they were blown out by Mississippi State (the end scoreline doesn’t really lend weight to how far apart Cowbell and Tiger really were), and then at Auburn, it was a Titanic that was smashed by a double iceberg of Gus Malzahn offense and its own horrors on both sides of the ball. Now they are really angry. After all, LSU hadn’t lost to Mississippi State and pretty consistently owned Auburn, but they were owned.

To put this in perspective: LSU last had a winless record in a conference in 1924. That was in the Southern Conference days, before they decided they were going to be a founder member of the SEC. Heck, the last time they only lost one game in the Southeastern Conference was in 1999. They are in great danger of posting the egg this season.

And last season LSU wasn’t great.

Sure, they went 10-3 for the second year in a row, but LSU really wasn’t great. Before the season began the team became a laughing stock when it was allowed to vote on the future of Jeremy Hill, who had been arrested for giving one of the worst blindsides-by-a-football-player in the annals of bad blindsides outside Tigerland. His previous history from his pre-college years should have seen an ‘au revoir’ from Team Geaux, but then again, what’s a moral when you’ve got wins to be had? Oh, and the 2013 LSU Tigers were awful tacklers, too. And they really didn’t seem to care all season long, either. Sure, the Tigers could throw and catch the ball, but the defense was horrible? Hell, but it was exciting!!

Despite all that, NINE LSU players went to the NFL Draft, including Mettenberger, top talents on wide receiver in Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry, and both Hill and Alfred Blue. And DT Ego Ferguson and OLB Lamin Barrow went too. All in all, the team returned 5 offensive starters and 7 defensive starters. But if we’re honest, the talent all went pro in something that was football. Listen, we know LSU went into 2014 with a bit of love. “Les Miles is still one of the best recruiters in the country”, drooled the writers, telling us all that the Cat In The Hat had managed to pull off a 2^nd-ranked 2014 recruiting class and a year before that, a 6^th-ranked recruiting class. The 2014 recruiting class included the ‘new Bo Jackson’ Leonard Fournette, and a bag of other talent, too.

Well, even Fournette – who only arrived on campus in the spring – couldn’t do miracles. LSU- which needs a good running back duo bearing in mind its horrible problems at quarterback – ranks 32^nd in the country in rushing offense. The quarterback and offensive line combo (Anthony Jennings is awful and Brandon Harris is young and overthrows the ball too much) has ensured LSU is 72^nd in passing offense. And the offensive line itself has allowed 11 sacks for 70 yards (61^st in the country) already. Defensively, the team can’t stop the rush. LSU is 89^th in the nation defending the rush. Weirdly, the secondary has been excellent against the pass – No. 10, and 2^nd in the SEC. But it doesn’t matter about passing when you can rush the ball on the Paper Tigers, does it? Against Auburn, it was big play after big play after big play they managed to give up, and we could swear that the only reason LSU wasn’t beaten by 60 is that Gus Malzahn realized he had a pretty big game at Mississippi State the following week and wanted to keep the score down.

So what’s going to happen against Florida, a team with its own problems? We don’t know. But if the Tigers don’t win this one, LSU fans are going to get someone’s head. Because one thing’s for certain: They won’t get geaux-ing to a bowl game in a hurry.

Wow. What a week for Ole Miss and Mississippi State. Ole Miss shows up at The Grove with the College Gameday crew wearing bow ties and looking pretty great, and Katy Perry makes an ass of herself on camera, and Ole Miss goes on to beat Alabama. Before that Mississippi State had beaten the living daylights out of Texas A&M, and looked worth the victory. Auburn beats the corndog out of LSU, while Florida and Tennessee plays the worst game in the History of Man. It ends 10-9 to Florida. Georgia throttles Vanderbilt, as predicted. Oh, and Kentucky scores a massive upset, beating South Carolina. Spurrier’s probably a little pissed by now.

We called the Mississippi State and South Carolina wins, by the way. Yeah, otherwise we’re feeling sheepish….

Anyway, here are our Post Week 6 rankings. Sorry we’ve been late on this. So, so sorry. We’re still recovering.

1) AUBURN (5-0, 2-0) 

The disposal of LSU showed either how bad LSU was or how good Auburn is. A lot of people aren’t believers in Auburn, but I’m starting to be. Nick Marshall’s a great quarterback, and the speedy offense is just exhausting and shredding defenses right now. Who’s going to be able to keep with them?

2) MISSISSIPPI STATE (5-0, 2-0)

Mississippi State looked really damned good against Texas A&M, crushing the Aggies 48-31 in a game that was ‘only’ decided by 17 because State was cruising. Anyway, Dak Prescott, Josh Robinson and THAT defense are looking great. We can’t wait for the Auburn match-up this Saturday. Expect a lot of cowbell, sportsfans.

3) OLE MISS (5-0, 2-0)

We should rename the Alabama Gameday experience bowties and bourbon, because that’s what a lot of it was. Before the game, there was more focus on The Grove than the freaking game. But that was OK, because Ole Miss were only there for the party, right? Wrong. The defense stifled Bama and ending up winning out 23-17, and grabbing two of the biggest plays in an end-zone….the game-winning TD and the game-clinching interception. One thing though, Ole Miss: Y’all probably need to work on your kicking.

4) ALABAMA (4-1, 1-1) 

Right now in the SEC West Standings, Alabama is third from bottom of the pile. If this was Premier League soccer, they would be facing demotion (or as the Brits put it, relegation) to the B1G or something. Anyway, Nick Saban probably wasn’t too happy at his pass defense or his offense right now. As a Bama fan, I wouldn’t be either. Huge loss of Kenyan Drake early on was a big blow for Tide fans, but for the first time all season Derrick Henry actually looked human. Maybe it was because this was the first game the Tide were truly tested? Nick Saban’s gone 0-3 in his last three games against ranked opponents, by the way. START THE SABAN OUT CAMPAIGN, CRAZIES!!

5) TEXAS A&M (2-1, 5-1)

Texas A&M dropped from 1st to 5th after getting shellacked at Mississippi State. The rush defense gave up 280 yards, the passing defense gave up 279 – and a lot of these were big plays. State averaged over 10 yards per play — and a lot of these were big 3rd down plays (they went 5/11 on third down, compared to A&M’s 5/17). And the offense? Kenny Hill didn’t have his greatest game, but he wasn’t helped by some terrible drops by his wide receivers. It’s not the first time we’ve said it this season, either (see first three quarters of Arkansas game) As we said, it was a loss by 17. But Mississippi State had the game in the bag by the time Texas A&M scored two touchdowns in, like, 2 minutes at the end.

6) GEORGIA (4-1, 2-1)

We actually toyed putting Georgia above A&M this week, but we realised…..A&M would shred Georgia’s awful secondary (which is getting worse by the minute that the Bulldogs dismiss players), which gave up 188 yards to Vanderbilt. The good news for the Bulldogs is that Todd Gurley’s still immense (163 yards on the ground, plus a 50-yard throw). The bad news? The Dawgs go to Mizzou for a SEC East showdown which will probably see the winner go to Atlanta. And Mizzou has a QB called Maty Mauk who can throw against a crappy secondary, too. The good news? Mizzou give up 144.6 yards/game against the rush.

7) ARKANSAS (3-2, 0-2)

Hogs running back Alex Collins and Jonathan Williams are flat-out filthy, but if you can stop those two (and that’s a big ‘IF’) then Brandon Allen isn’t anything special. Their only losses of the season have come against Auburn and Texas A&M (the latter should have been 1-1, folks), so let’s not say that the Razorbacks suck just yet, shall we? Alabama is going to be in for a test on Saturday.

8) MISSOURI (4-1, 1-0)

Maty Mauk’s a good quarterback, the team rushes well and the defense isn’t terrible (32nd in the country). The problem that sticks in our mind is Missouri’s loss at home to Indiana, which is looking increasingly unforgiveable. A lot of Mizzou fans will blame the center who couldn’t snap the ball properly, or the fact that the ‘D’ couldn’t deal with an up-beat offense, but they still lost. Hence why they are below Georgia. But if they beat the Bulldogs in Columbia on Saturday, then they move higher and nearer a second straight SEC East crown.

9) LSU (4-2, 0-2)

I’m playing this song for the LSU Tigers at the moment. In the recent years of college football I’ve never seen a LSU team that couldn’t tackle (see Auburn and Mississippi State), were awful at quarterback (see Auburn and Mississippi State) and completely lacked leadership (see all season long). This LSU team is really, really bad. They may end up winless in the SEC West. They could end up winless in the whole of the SEC if they fail to beat Florida, folks.

10) KENTUCKY (4-1, 3-1)

Kentucky’s monster upset of South Carolina put them above Tennessee in our rankings, even though they lost to Florida – a result that should put them BELOW the Gators. Why? Because I reckon you play that game again in The Swamp, the Wildcats win. Kentucky’s got momentum, yo.

11) SOUTH CAROLINA (2-3, 3-3)

OK, so Dylan Thompson isn’t one of the SEC’s best quarterbacks by any stretch of the imagination. And the defense is still trying to recover from the loss of Clowney and Quarless. And guess what? There is a real lack of leaders on this Gamecocks team. OK, Steve Spurrier, you were right: this Gamecocks team really isn’t good.

12) FLORIDA (3-1, 2-1)

Florida celebrates winning the most boring game of the century against the hated Tennessee by seeing its quarterback suspended for alleged sexual assault. Bummer for Will Muschamp.

13) TENNESSEE (2-3, 0-2)

The Volunteers don’t have an offensive line to help QB Justin Worley actually make good decisions (he didn’t against the Gators). The receivers are very talented, but they also drop the ball too much. The defense was fine against an inept Florida attack, but how will they hold up against better offenses? This team may well go winless in the SEC, folks.

14) VANDERBILT (0-5, 1-4)

Kentucky freshman DE Lloyd Tubman has been suspended by the Wildcats after he was charged for first-degree rape, multiple reports have said.

Kentucky.com reported that the alleged rape was reported at 11.45am Thursday “by a female student”, and that it was reported in a residence hall, and that “UK Police Chief Joe Monroe said it involved two students, but he declined to comment further“.

Wildcats coach Mark Stoops said in a statement: “Obviously, I’m very concerned about the allegations and all parties involved. We’re working extremely hard to develop quality young men on and off the field. We will continue to cooperate with the local and campus authorities while the process takes its course.”

Tubman, from Louisville, was ranked the 12th-best weakside DE in the nation according to 24-7sports.com, and the 4th-best overall player in Kentucky, and was one of the stars of Mark Stoops’ recruiting stars. He had committed to Penn State before deciding to play in the SEC.

Florida has suspended QB Treon Harris after the player was accused of sexual assault on a female student early Sunday morning. Police will investigate the accusation.

Treon Harris replaced Jeff Driskel to lead the Gators to a comeback win at Tennessee on Saturday.

The University of Florida said: “The University of Florida Police Department is investigating the incident, and UFPD has brought in the Gainesville Police Department to assist with collection and analysis of forensic evidence.”

The school added: “Due to legal and privacy requirements, there are limitations as to what the university can say publicly about a pending matter such as this. In these types of serious situations, Student Affairs initiates the Student Conduct Code process. Often, a student may be suspended on an interim basis, which means he or she is banned from campus and all campus activities, pending the outcome of the conduct process.”

Florida President Bernie Machen said: “The university is committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment for every member of the UF community. We must strive to protect all of our students from sexual harassment and assault, and do everything in our power to promote a safe learning environment.”

What’s interesting for us, though, is that Machen is basically saying that Harris is guilty, without actually knowing the full truth. The investigation by the school also trumps the efforts that state rival Florida State did with Jameis Winston and their own quarterback’s sexual assault charge.

Now here’s what’s interesting: According to site “Geeks and Cleats”, Daniel Gillman of ESPN 850 said the sexual assault accusations came about because the accusor was angry that Harris slept with a woman other than her.

BOTTOM LINE: We hope that the last paragraph is all that there is to the story and Treon Harris gets to play football again. Whatever happens, Florida has handled the situation pretty impeccably. And if the story about the girl reporting Harris for rape just because he cheated on her, she should be thrown out of school. 

If there was a college football play-off for teams that throw players off the team, Georgia and Texas would be your undisputed No.1 teams. Georgia probably took the lead a bit (partnered with Texas letting a player back on the team) when Freshman DB Shaq Jones was booted after being arrested for misdemeanour theft by shoplifting.

Richt said in a statement: “We have certain expectations and standards that we require of all our players. When those expectations and standards are not met, the opportunity to be a part of our program is sacrificed.”

To start the week, Georgia had seen Sheldon Dawson leave the team. It is not known how Dawson left the team.

Jones had originally committed to Lousiville before deciding on Georgia later this year.

BOTTOM LINE: Georgia’s secondary was already horrible going into this week…..and is now much lighter.
