Will Georgia roll on? Who’s going to win the Lane Bowl? Week 3 SEC Scores and Predictions

This is going to be quick, because the wife and I are meant to be on ‘Date Day’ but I forgot to ratchet these predictions out this week. For the record, thoughts and prayer go out to the people of Lake Charles, LA, which will have been hit by a hurricane by the end of the day. My heart breaks. Anyway, the big game of the day is Tennessee’s trip to Georgia and Lane Kiffin and Nick Saban reunitining in the never-particularly-boring Alabama vs Ole Miss game, and an intriguing game between Arkansas and Auburn. LSU’s ‘home game’ in Death Valley has been moved to Missouri, Mississippi State plays Kentucky, Florida’s going to Texas A&M, and South Carolina go to

SEC Opening Weekend Preview: Will Kentucky upset Auburn?

Thank you, Lord Jesus. The SEC is back on Saturday. For a while, we thought there would be no college football season, let alone SEC season. But the SEC waited – and came up with a plan. The plan is that every SEC side will play 10 games. This week is Week 1. So here we go – in order of games that we’re most excited to see. No.23 Kentucky at No.8 Auburn (-7.5)  Auburn bring back two of the better wide receivers in the SEC West in Seth Williams and Anthony Schwartz, and a very solid defensive corps as well. Kentucky will start senior QB Terry Wilson and brings along a strong line with him and a running back group

South Carolina announces Hill as starting QB

South Carolina has said that Collin Hill will be its new starting quarterback. The transfer from Colorado State – reunited under new offensive coordinator Mike Bobo – impressed during practice. It was obviously enough to unseat sophomore incumbent Ryan Hillinski. Hill threw for 3,233 yards, 23 TDs and 11 INTs in three years in Fort Collins. He had a 60.7% completion percentage.

Why aren’t we hearing more about COVID-19 from SEC coaches?

Today Florida said that they had 7 COVID-19 cases on their team, up from six from last week. The news silenced practice for today – not great news for Dan Mullen’s team that start the season against Ole Miss on September 26th. Right now, practice is important. Earlier on, Ed Orgeron said about COVID-19: “”I think most — not all of our players — but most of our players have caught it… I think hopefully they don’t catch it again and hopefully they’re not out for games… I’m not going to say all of them…. But some players have caught it. I don’t know the percentage. Hopefully, that once you catch it, you don’t get it again.” Orgeron declined to talk about

Who’s going to win the SEC Quarterback battles?

This is going to be an interesting season for a lot of reasons. Most of them have already been covered. But for a lot of SEC fans, the question will be: “Who’s going to be the damned starting quarterback?” For some – like in Florida, Tennessee, Auburn and Texas A&M – the question is fairly obvious, but for other schools, the battles will rage right until the Friday before Gameday. So here’s our lowdown on who’s going to win out. ALABAMA Our pick: Mac Jones over Bryce Young. Jones and Young – the latter one the No.1-rated dual threat QB on the 24-7 2020 recruiting board and the second-best player in the nation – had an almighty battle, and both will

SEC East Preview: Can Georgia continue its roll?

We know that 2020 is going to be difficult for all sorts of reasons. COVID-19 has put a spectre like no other on the SEC season. These two previews – one for the East and one for the West – are going to be done with the knowledge (and the hope this won’t happen) that it could all end in disaster.  SEC EAST PREVIEW The SEC East hasn’t been given a lot of credit by anyone over the years. Mainly because it’s been Georgia, Georgia, Georgia, Georgia, and people haven’t recognised that Florida’s not really that bad. It’s also been scourged by the relative uselessness of Tennessee, Missouri, South Carolina and Vanderbilt, who have paled into comparison to the talent-rich monsters

Mike Bobo is South Carolina’s new OC

Mike Bobo is returning to the SEC. The former Georgia OC has been hired by South Carolina to be the team’s new offensive mastermind under Will Muschamp after he left Colorado State. His job won’t be easy – He’ll be charged with improving one of the country’s worst offenses, which averaged 121st in yards per play in the country. He will replace Bryan McClendon as OC. Bobo started with a trio of winning seasons with Colorado State before 2-6 and 3-5 seasons in 2018 and 2019. He was sidelined in 2018 with peripheral neuropathy after he experienced numbness in his feet. Coaching-wise, he should be an ideal fit for South Carolina. At Georgia he was somewhat of a quarterback whisperer

SEC Rankings: LSU is a Big-12 team

For once people are talking about what this blog has been ranting about all season long: LSU’s defense is utter crap. They were shredded by Texas, Florida and Alabama – all of which were good teams – so we’ll grant them that. The secondary – the self-proclaimed ‘DBU’ throughout the season hasn’t been great. And it was all shown up on Saturday against Ole Miss. LSU won because their offense was a little better than Ole Miss’ in the Tigers’ 58-37 victory, but the defense gave up SIX HUNDRED AND FOURTEEN YARDS, including 400 on the ground. We’ll say it again, 400 yards on the ground. The defensive line never hurried John Rhys Plumlee and Matt Corrall, and they totalled just 5

Who wins College Football’s biggest showdown?

It’s hard not be excited about this weekend’s clash between LSU and Alabama in Tuscaloosa. College Gameday’s excited. CBS is excited. The SEC is excited. The 100,000 fans who are going to be there are excited, plus the thousands who are going to be tailgating. The College Football Play-Off Committee – who voted LSU No.2 and Alabama as No3 – is excited. Oh, and Donald Trump’s excited. He just loves college football, man, he’s not there for political capital or anything. This is going to be a showdown of offenses. Both are sizzling right now. Joe Burrow and Tua Tagovailoa have got their offenses on afterburn, helped by explosive future NFL wide receivers on both sides. The defenses? Both have looked

The SEC is a megachurch, a denomination, and a religion

It’s nighttime in Death Valley. The War Eagle Flies. We’re running through the T. We’re chomping. We’re asking how ‘bout them Dawgs. We’re clanging, pig sooein’, rammer jammerin’, Ole miss by damn’. We’re a 12th Man, the ZOU in MIZ, a Commodore, and a Wildcat. There’s even 2001 or maybe a Sandstorm. Our churches aren’t small. They are megachurches, holding a screaming congregation that will bury you with noise. They’ve even been allowed some in-game communion wine to add to their palates during services now. It should make Saturday church a little louder. When they win with a God-given upset, they jump over railings, get stuck in hedges, surf goalposts through crowded streets and toilet paper trees. When they lose,
