How good is Ole Miss? Week 4 SEC rankings

Ole Miss was expected to smash Vanderbilt at home and didn’t, instead grinding out an 11-point win over the Commodores and never totally looking in control. Yes, we know that they were coming off a monster win at Alabama, but that’s hardly College Football Play-Off form. Ohio State, by the way, has been ‘grinding’ since it won at Virginia Tech – although it found some signs of life on Saturday. Fournette, Ole Miss rule: Week 4 SEC Rankings

We’ve got a couple of things to say about Week 4. Leonard Fournette, Leonard Fournette, Leonard Fournette. Gus Malzahn should have said in the press conference after Auburn was trainwrecked by the player: “He just ran us over”. But he didn’t. Fournette was so good, it became must-see TV. Unbelievable night in Bama. I am still quivering from thinking about that Ole Miss vs Alabama game in Tuscaloosa. This game was like being on the relationship rollercoaster, with more ins and outs than an episode of “Game Of Thrones” (speaking of acting: John Hamm, congrats on the Emmy for “Mad Men”). Georgia crushed Spurrier. Georgia’s a much better team than South Carolina this year. Who knew?? Arkansas, Arkansas, Arkansas. Enough

SEC Football Blog’s SEC Power Rankings

Here are our SEC Football Blog Power Rankings after Week 1 of the season. Alabama — They are going to be OK with Derrick Henry running behind that offensive line. Texas A&M  — Playing to a home crowd at Kyle Field Houston certainly helped. A lot. But this defense, led by Myles Garrett, was looking changed, talented and great. Georgia — If they stay healthy, Nick Chubb, Keith Marshall and Sony Michel will be a three-headed running back monster for SEC defenses to stop. Auburn — Fell to pieces at the end of the Louisville game. Was it tiredness or not giving a crap? Anyway, the Tigers are going to have to improve both in a loaded SEC West. Ole Miss

Ole Miss 2015 Preview: Great D, By Damn

Ole Miss’ 2014 was a weird one. The Rebs went to the heights of No.3 in the nation after winning their first seven games in a row, including an incredible field-invading, Katy Perry-attending, classic against Alabama. They looked solid. Bo Wallace looked ready to play. Everything was going their way. And then they walked into Tiger Stadium, LSU. There nothing went their way. They lost 10-7 that was classically bad, and then lost a home heartbreaker against Auburn 35-31, in which star WR Laquon Treadwell broke his leg and had us all reaching for the sick bucket. A 30-0 loss to Arkansas and a bowl schellacking by a pissed-off TCU – sandwiched with a gratifying 31-17 Egg Bowl victory over No.4 Mississippi

Ole Miss lands three-star RB

Ole Miss has gained the commitment of three-star running back D’Vaughn Pennamon. Pennamon, from Manvel High School in Manvel, TX, is 5 ft 11 and 199lbs. He also plays wide receiver. The player was also heavily recruited by Texas A&M, Arkansas, and Tennessee, but also had offers from Georgia, Missouri, and Florida.

The SEC Media Days (July 13-16) don’t generally have a whole lot, yet they are still entertaining. Who is OUR SEC Coach Of The Year For 2014?

After SEC coaches gave the SEC Coach of The Year award to Missouri’s Gary Pinkel, we decided that it was high time to rank the SEC coaches in terms of their job for this year. In advance: Will Muschamp didn’t win. 1) Dan Mullen (Mississippi State) We thought he was joking when he said Mississippi State would compete for a SEC title this year. Well, it did. And a play-off berth. And they went to Tuscaloosa and played Alabama hard. And beat Auburn. And went to LSU and won for the first time in years. And had a No.1 spot. Alabama’s Nick Saban top-paid coach in college football

Unsurprisingly, Alabama head coach Nick Saban is the top-ranked coach in college football, USA Today has reported. Despite a season where he didn’t win his bowl game and lost to Auburn, Saban – who’s Crimson Tide team is now the top-ranked team in the nation – still earned $7.1m in total pay in 2013 – including a base salary of $6.9m. Texas A&M’s Kevin Sumlin was the second-most paid in the SEC and the fourth-best coach in college football, pulling in $5m in base salary, and $5.006m total. LSU’s Les Miles earned $4.3m ($4.369m total), and South Carolina’s Steve Spurrier earned $4m ($4.016m total).   Here is the total pay for all SEC coaches: 1. Nick Saban (Alabama) – $6.9m
