LSU, the removal of wins, and the Ghost of Les Miles

Last week’s pretty boring week of news was highlighted by news that LSU been forced by the NCAA to vacated all of its wins between 2012-2015 because of benefits giving to offensive linesman Vadal Alexander and his family. The booster in question – John Paul Funes – gave works to Vadal’s father and mother, who never ended up doing their jobs. Well, James Alexander, Vadal’s father, did five pieces of work for Our Lady Of The Lake Foundation, anyway…and earned over $180,000 over five years for doing so (great work if you can get it!). New ’24 schedule sets up some SEC monster clashes

The arrival of Texas and Oklahoma may have people fuming about the teams voting not to go to a nine game schedule, but this hasn’t stopped the SEC from putting together some monster clashes for the 2024 year, which will lack divisions. THE ‘WE JUST WALKED INTO A CAULDRON’ TEAM Texas will play Georgia and Florida at home, while going on the road to Arkansas (who hate their guts) and Texas A&M (who hate them even more). There’s also the Red River Rivalry to boot. Oh, and they also travel to the Big House to play Michigan (Home dates with Kentucky and Mississippi State and a road game at Vanderbilt make it a bit palatable, but STILL). The SEC is going to vote for 8 games….sigh

The Southeastern Conference is going to vote for an eight game schedule (including one permanent opponent), and the fans are going to be completely screwed. BUT IT’S NOT ABOUT THE FANS, THE COACHES GENERALLY DON’T CARE There’s Kentucky’s Mark Stoops, who has openly campaigned for an 8-game schedule, has called it ‘unfair’ , we think simply because the Wildcats have Louisville in the Commonwealth Cup, and therefore it makes their schedule even more difficult. JackPawt: Georgia lands biggest 2024 recruit of all

Georgia has managed to get the commitment of the best player in the 2024 recruiting class. Dylan Raiola, the 6ft 3 QB from Phoenix, AZ said that he would come to Athens next year. He’s ranked 95.78 by On3, making him the No.1 overall QB and player in the draft. He is the third five-star in Georgia’s No.4 recruiting class, alongside CB Ellis Robinson IV and LB Demarcus Riddick. Georgia has been on the hunt to get him help, and Ryan Wingo from St Louis, MO is expected to be signing for Kirby Smart’s team as the coach amasses his best recruiting class in his time at The Classic City.

The most interesting SEC picks in the 2023 NFL Draft

For the SEVENTEEN consecutive year the SEC has given the NFL the most picks in the Draft — and they aren’t all going to the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles have drafted most of Georgia’s 2022 Natty-winning defense (so it seems), and this year they got Jalen Carter, Nolan Smith and a 4th round steal in Kelee Ringo. This year was a weird year in the SEC, because only one coach was hired in the offseason, and that was the utterly polarizing, utterly dislikable Hugh Freeze by Auburn. We mourned the loss of Mike Leach, but almost immediately DC Zach Arnett replaced him, and then got the permanent job. So who’s job is under pressure in the SEC. We go from 1-12.
