Good reasons to be watching the National Championship on Monday.
Read moreBefore I start, here’s a link from a UK Premier League about something that a lot of men suffer from: Depression. “We’re not talking Georgia beat Alabama and now I’m depressed” depression, we’re talking: “I am with 100,000 people and I feel totally alone” depression. And if we see someone like that at our games, we need to talk to them before its too late. I wish the NCAA would do something along the lines of this, but they won’t, because money. Anyway, here’s something to lighten the mood: My Week 6 picks for the SEC. This week, there aren’t a lot of teams on the schedule, which means that you’ll be getting something the size of Revelation for each game
Read moreWe are getting to that beautiful point when SEC teams all play each other, and we don’t have to watch [add SEC team here] beat the living daylights out of [add poor FCS school here] on ESPN The Ocho. This Saturday, we’ve got a monster with Georgia going to Tennessee – which is also going to be your spot for College Gameday (first time since 2022, I’m told), Texas A&M going to Notre Dame and Wisconsin going to Alabama for a helmet game. Oh, and there’s Ole Miss hosting Arkansas, Vanderbilt visiting South Carolina, and the fun trainwreck of Florida going to LSU. Oh, and there’s a bunch of ‘snore games’ on the sked, which we’re not remotely excited about.
Read moreA battle between Oklahoma and Michigan is a reason why we love college football. Both are storied programs, with multiple Heismans and massive fanbases. The last they played each other was in 1975, which led to Oklahoma winning a Natty. Norman is going to be rocking. Anyway, here’s our (brief) preview of the game, as well as a bunch of SEC games (in order of interest) – including the first conference game of the year between Ole Miss and Kentucky. No.15 Michigan and No.18 Oklahoma (-5): We know little about both of these sides, apart from that there are worries about the lines on both sides – especially as Michigan five star frosh offensive lineman Andrew Babalola is done for

Read moreFirst of all, the SEC could get four in the Play-Off (Georgia, Texas, Tennessee and one of Alabama, Ole Miss and South Carolina), but it’s unlikely. But the SEC Championship is set: Georgia v Texas in Atlanta. The AP Poll has made everything really interesting for SEC teams. We’ll keep you updated with the Play-Off Committee’s thoughts on Tuesday. Oh, and we think the SEC Championship Game is a waste of time. All the game is going to give us is injuries. And both sets of fans — while there is certainly going to be a massive boost to their egos by winning the conference — would rather have a week (or two) off before the play-offs. TEAMS DEFINITELY IN
Read moreOK, we’re writing this at the opening salvo of The Egg Bowl (still 0-0), and the notion of ‘we need to get this done earlier this week’ got thrown to the layby because of the Thanksgiving break and two toddlers who refused to sleep. Anyway, we’re going high-speed for all the games this week. FRIDAY We’ve covered the Ole Miss v Mississippi State game and why we’re watching it, so there’s little point in a preview. Sorry, Lane. GEORGIA TECH AT NO.7 GEORGIA (-17.5) Why should you be interested? Georgia’s very much in a play-off hunt. Otherwise, we expect Georgia – if they have a comfortable lead by the fourth quarter – to take their pedal off the medal to
Read moreGeorgia’s off to its second rough road game in three games, this time rolling into Oxford, where expectancy’s back to being sky-high after the Rebs smashed Arkansas on the road. Had they lost that, Lane Kiffin might be facing the hurricane of rage — as well as an almost-certain miss from a play-off spot. It’s gonna be fun in Oxford. It’s also Bama-LSU weekend, which is going to get everyone very excited. It’s also going to be a lot of fun because of the level of jeopardy on this, with the loser likely not to make the play-off. The atmosphere – even without Nick Saban there as a head coach – is likely to be off the hook (Going to
Read moreAt the end of the season, we’ll be talking about great games. If the Alabama v Georgia game isn’t in your Top 2, you’re probably wrong. They played out a crazy, wonderful, game-of-two-halves classic that was finished with a crazy-brilliant touchdown by a kid who happens to be the 17-year old cousin of one Serena Williams Anyway, here are our rankings after Week 5 of the SEC season. 1. Alabama: Calen DeBoer’s gonna win games he should have lost (see last season v Oregon and Texas) and lose games he should have won. His clock management will be questionable. But through all of this, he will be bloody entertaining to watch. It’s gonna be some ride, Alabama fans. 2. Tennessee:
Read moreAlabama has hired former Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer as head coach. Under DeBoer’s tutelage, the Huskies made the National Championship Game after an unbeaten regular season and beating Texas in the semi-final, where they were hammered by Michigan (after playing zero defense in the first quarter). News of DeBoer’s contract aren’t out yet, but it should be a pretty seamless offensive move. DeBoer’s team averaged 36 points per game last year, and 39.7 the year before in his two years in Seattle, en route to an overall 25-3 record. He has an overall coaching record of an astonishing 104-12 – although some of this was at the University of Sioux Falls in South Dakota, a NAIA school. Alabama will
