SEC: LSU-Auburn ‘highlights’ a pretty bad slate

This week’s SEC isn’t week. It’s simply bad. Zero Top 25 match-ups. One Top 10 team. Two slaughters on the menu. A game between two also-rans in their respective divisions, and one game between teams that will be fighting it out for second place in their divisions. And one featuring teams that will fight it out for fourth and fifth. And the batshit crazy one involving LSU and Auburn. But we’ll do as best we can. Auburn at No.22 LSU (-11): The best thing about this game is that it’s going to be at night, which means the crowd will be louder, drunker, and probably more willing to stay around than they would in the heat of the day. LSU’s

SEC Preview: Arkansas, we gotta talk about the pass defense

Talk all you want about how great Arkansas will be with KJ Jefferson coming back for another year, but the fact is this: Unless they get better on pass defense, there are going to be a lot of questions asked about Sam Pittman’s reign. They were WORST in the country by some mile, giving up 294.7 yards per game (second-last East Carolina gave up 292.8) and 8 1/2 yards/attempt. WHO’S IN Helping the pass rush will be one of the best players on Missouri’s defense last year in Trajan Jeffcoat as well as John Morgan, who comes from Pitt. They also added CB Jaheim Singletary from Georgia. He was a former 5-star recruit in the 2022 class, but only appeared

Week 11 Preview: Can Arkansas nuke LSU’s SEC West plans?

OK. So there’s going to be a fun game in Oxford at 2.30pm God’s time when Alabama goes to Ole Miss to play. There’s the Nick Saban v Lane Kiffin experience (both united over their hatred of Jimbo Fisher), and there’s the old lines getting trotted out about Alabama being on their knees. But in our view, the biggest game of the week isn’t that. It’s LSU’s trip to Arkansas in a game that could be a Hangover Saturday for the Tigers. However bad Arkansas was in the game against Liberty, they could have tied in the final seconds. And with KJ Jefferson, watch out. Elsewhere, Georgia goes to Mississippi State, Missouri’s ‘great-defense-but-no-offense’ travels to ‘All-Offense-Poor-Defense’ Tennessee, South Carolina goes

Week 9 Preview: Could Ole Miss put Jimbo in semi-serious trouble?

It’s a quiet schedule this week, with just five SEC games this week. One game – that was usually one of the brightest parts of the SEC calendar but has recently lost its luster – is Georgia v Florida/The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party – is now expected to be an ass-kicking. There’s only one ranked match-up (No.19 Kentucky at No.3 Tennessee), while No.15 Ole Miss’ trip to Texas A&M might well be one of the most interesting games on the schedule. The reason why? A loss to Ole Miss puts Texas A&M at a truly terrible 3-5 – which is not something that college football thought would happen in 2022. Honestly, most of us expected them to fight for

SEC Week 5 Preview: LSU goes to Auburn, Arkansas v Alabama

Honestly, writing this preview seems a little worthless bearing in mind Hurricane Ian and its effect on SEC territory. The University of Florida and their players will be watching the game with heavy hearts, bearing in mind the devestation around the State. South Carolina already got ahead of the game by playing South Carolina State on Thursday. It was a slaughter as Carolina won 50-10. Spencer Rattler AGAIN wasn’t a highlight, throwing 2 TDs but also 2 picks. MarShawn Lloyd led the running backs with 91 yards and a TD (and a TD reception, too). For Saturday, Alabama’s trip to Arkansas, Auburn’s trip to LSU, and Kentucky’s trip to Ole Miss highlights the schedule. There’s an underrated potential beauty in
