Alabama and Georgia make statements: SEC Week 8 Power Rankings

Both Alabama and Georgia made statements on Saturday. Alabama by shutting down Texas A&M’s offense, Georgia by going to Arkansas and picking up the Win That No-One-But-Vegas-Who-Had-Them-Favored expected, striking a monster blow for SEC East. The dumpster fire in Florida continued as they lost 42-12 to Missouri at home on Homecoming Night, while Ole Miss shut down Tennessee at home. Gurley suspension puts Georgia in spotlight: Week 7 SEC Predictions

On a weekend that the No.2 team in the nation go and play the No. 3 team, and the team which beat Alabama goes down to a cauldron of noise to play in butt-hurt Texas, it’s funny how one incident can steal a spotlight for another team completely. And that incident and spotlight was stolen by Georgia, which has suspended their Heisman Trophy candidate/frontrunner indefinitely because he was photographed signing autographs (apparently he accepted $400 to do it in the spring). Aggies rise, Gamecocks slide: Week 5 SEC Power Rankings

It was a strange night for the SEC. A team that got beaten at home by a BIG TEN TEAM went on the road to one of the toughest environments in the SEC…..and won. Texas A&M still the pick- Week 3 SEC Power Rankings

‘Twas a hell of a night in the SEC. South Carolina avoided getting hit by lightning to score a 3-point win over Georgia, Florida squeaked by Kentucky in THREE overtimes, and Arkansas ripped out a monster away victory at Texas Tech (giggles). Tennessee played valiantly at Oklahoma but were predictably outclassed, but there are green shoots. Oh, and Vanderbilt. Dear. God. Anyway, here are our Week 3 Power Rankings for the SEC: 1. The last two years in Texas A&M history haven’t been the most successful, but hell, they’ve been the most fun. Texas A&M beats Texas, Alabama to top WR commitment

Texas A&M has beaten Texas to the commitment of five-star WR Damarkus Lodge. The 6ft 2, 190lb Lodge, from Cedar Hill HS, TX,  is rated for fourth-best wide receiver in the country, and sixth-best player in the State of Texas, and 35th-best player overall. Lodge was offered by a large number of big-time programs, including Texas, Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas, Baylor, Florida, Clemson, LSU, Ole Miss, Michigan, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and USC. Texas fans were predictably unhappy with Lodge going to their still-hated rival.

Johnny Manziel’s Pro Day impresses

Johnny Manziel’s NFL Pro Day impressed, according to reports. According to an ESPN report, all NFL teams but the Cleveland Browns and Chicago Bears were represented as they watched the 2012 Heisman Winner go through his reps. According to another report, Manziel didn’t have a perfect throwing day, but a couple of those misses should be blamed on Mike Evans (bobbling one out of bounds) and Travis Labhart (dropping one). He ended up hitting 61 of 64 passes, with NFL.com Charean Williams saying: “One bad pass” (she also said “Boom!” in the same tweet). ‘Saban Rule’ to be reconsidered

The controversial ‘Saban Rule’ which would ensure that would delay offenses and effectively blindside the quick snap tactics is to be re-considered, USA Today has reported. The rule, which would ensure that offenses had to give defenses 10 seconds between snaps (apparently because of ‘safety reasons’, according to Alabama Coach Nick Saban), is apparently going to be reconsidered by the NCAA Rule Committee next week….even before it comes before a vote. The reason for the rule in the first place is worries that more players would be injured as offenses speed up and they are unable to take breaks.
