Two UGA players appear in court; Will not face suspension

Georgia linebacker James DeLoach and freshman defensive end Jonathan Taylor will not face suspensions from Mark Richt after being arrested for cashing checks illegally. The two players were told that they would face “significant internal discipline” but no suspensions, according to a number of reports. They were accepted into a pre-trial intervention program. The other two players – safety Tray Matthews and WR Uriah LeMay – appeared alongside DeLoach and Taylor. Matthews left the team earlier this week and LeMay has also left UGA. Both players intend to transfer.

Three Texas A&M players arrested

Three Texas A&M football players have been arrested on outstanding warrants, it has emerged. Wide receiver Edward Pope, defensive linesman Gavin Stansbury and defensive back Howard Matthews Jr were all arrested on Thursday night. KBTX in College Station tells the story like this: “College Station Police stopped a 2008 Pontiac on Texas Avenue, around 11:40 p.m. Thursday, for an expired registration. Edward Pope, a sophomore wide receiver, pulled into the Freebird’s parking lot. When police ran his license, they discovered Pope was wanted on a College Station municipal warrant for Failure to Appear. So, they arrested him. Sumlin suspends two A&M players

Kevin Sumlin, the new Texas A&M coach, has wasted no time as a disciplinarian, suspending two starters for the first game of the season. Junior linebacker Steven Jenkins and defensive back Howard Matthews  were each given a one game ban for violating team policy. What they did is not quite clear. Matthews had 28 tackles and two sacks in his first season for the Aggies, while Jenkins had 61 tackles and 1 sacks in 2011. One A&M fan tweeted: “Well, that was quick.
