Former SEC Commissioner Slive dies

Former SEC Commissioner Mike Slive has passed away aged 77 after losing his battle with cancer. He lived from 1940 to 2018, and is survived by Liz, his wife of 49 years. Slive was the commissioner of the SEC from 2002 to 2015, where under his guise the conference won numerous national championships across a number of sports – most famously including football. In all, the SEC won 81 national championships in 17 of its 21 sponsored sports during Slive’s tenure, the press release announcing his passing away said. Former Auburn TE star Lutzenkirchen killed in car crash

Former Auburn star tight end Philip Lutzenkirchen has been killed in a car crash. Lutzenkirchen died in Georgia after a 2006 Chevy Tahoe containing he and three others “ran a stop sign and careened out of control for roughly 450 feet before overturning several times, coming to a rest on its roof“, according to a USA Today report. It is not known whether alcohol was a factor in the accident. Lutzenkirchen played for all four years of his Auburn career – although his final season was cut short by a hip injury that cost him a NFL future. Texas A&M defensive linesman killed

Texas A&M defensive linesman Polo Manukainiu was killed in a car crash on Monday night, according to FanSided. The player, who redshirted in the 2012 season, was reportedly driving back from Utah to Texas when the accident happened. He was a 3-star defensive linesman, and played for Trinity High School in Euless, Texas. He was recruited by Oklahoma, Arkansas, and UCLA amongst others.

Texas A&M legend Pardee passes away

There was more sad news for the SEC after news emerged that Texas A&M legend Jack Pardee had passed away aged 76. According to ESPN, Pardee was one of Bear Bryant’s Junction Boys when Bryant was a coach in Aggieland. Pardee played linebacker for the Aggies for three years and was then drafted in 1957. In the three years Pardee played under Bryant, the Aggies went 7-2-1, 9-0-1, and 8-3. Pardee then played in the NFL for 15 years – during which he had a bout of melanoma. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1996, after a successful coaching stint at Houston in 1989 that saw Andre Ware get a Heisman Award – he was
