South Carolina is to have two defensive co-ordinators for the team next year, reports say. John Hoke, who comes from the NFL and has most recently been with Chicago, will come on board to coach USC's passing defense, and current DC Lorenzo Ward will coach the Gamecocks rushing defense. Ward worked for Steve Spurrier at Florida between 1999-2001, the report from GoGamecocks.com says. Unsurprisingly, Alabama head coach Nick Saban is the top-ranked coach in college football, USA Today has reported. Despite a season where he didn't win his bowl game and lost to Auburn, Saban - who's Crimson Tide team is now the top-ranked team in the nation - still earned $7.1m in total pay in 2013 - including a base salary of $6.9m. Texas A&M's Kevin Sumlin was the second-most paid in the SEC and the fourth-best coach in college football, pulling in $5m in base salary, and $5.006m total. We'll be honest. This SEC schedule on paper looked pretty strong when the season started, but right now, it's actually pretty week. Look, we get that the match-up Texas A&M and a suddenly-reborn Arkansas in JerryWorld is pretty cool. 'Twas a hell of a night in the SEC. South Carolina avoided getting hit by lightning to score a 3-point win over Georgia, Florida squeaked by Kentucky in THREE overtimes, and Arkansas ripped out a monster away victory at Texas Tech (giggles). Despite all the talk that comes out of Steve Spurrier's mouth, there one thing that's for certain about his South Carolina Gamecocks: They've never won a SEC title under him. Mark Richt is used to criticism as head coach of the University of Georgia. Every year people place him on the hot-seat for either not beating South Carolina, or not beating Auburn, or losing a game they should win, or not beating a team by enough, and 2015 won't be any different - although after beating Clemson and LSU, maybe the seat's a LITTLE cooler.
