SEC Bowl Predictions: From National Championship Downwards

“Some of the SEC’s the best in the country, and some of the SEC’s The Sun Belt”, a SEC fan told us over cold beverages before the SEC Championship game. Well, the Sun Belt’s out boys – right now it’s the bowl-making elite – which this year includes Ole Miss. Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, Georgia, South Carolina, Texas A&M, LSU and Alabama make up the rest of the spots. In other news: Could the SEC West be any stronger? AJ McCarron to stay at Bama, Lattimore goes

AJ McCarron has said that he’s going to stay at Alabama for his senior year. The junior quarterback, who was considered a Heisman candidate before he was outshone by Johnny Manziel in the loss to Texas A&M, revealed the news at a press conference on Wednesday. He said:  “I had many goals for myself when I came to the University of Alabama. I have been lucky enough to achieve some of those goals, but some are still ahead of me. SEC Football Blog’s All-SEC team

Sorry we’ve been out of touch…..we’ve been at the SEC Championship Game (did we mention that?), and running around. Anyway, since we’ve been gone a bit, we’d like to point out a few things: 1) We’re still on the fence about whether we’re rooting for Alabama, Notre Dame, or nobody at the National Championship Game. 2) Well done to Johnny Manziel for winning the Heisman. Great for Texas A&M, and great for SEC Football to have a Heisman winner (again). However, Collin Klein probably had a better body of work, but Manziel beat Alabama. Is the SEC really the country’s greatest conference?

I saw this article by Saturday Down South about the SEC Championship Game and how the gap between the SEC and rest of college football was widening. I’d like to point out – even as a SEC homer – that there are some corrections to be made: 1) If you watched the ACC game, you saw tarps covering large sections of the upper deck coupled with plenty of Carolina Panther-blue empty seats throughout the stands. Most estimates put the crowd size in the 30,000-40,000 range. The Big Ten Championship attendance was reported to be around the 41,000 mark. The Pac-12 Championship Game was hosted on-campus at Stanford on a Friday night and pulled around 31,000 fans. At least the Pac-12 recognizes it

Spurrier gets new contract extension from South Carolina

After a 10-2 season that included a victories over hated rivals Clemson and Georgia, the South Carolina Gamecocks have given a two-year contract extension to College Football’s greatest golfing football coach, Steve Spurrier through the 2017 season. Unlike Les Miles’ deal with LSU, Spurrier’s deal with South Carolina did not see a salary raise – although he’s going to earn $3.3m in 2013, which is quite handy. Wow. It’s all come so quickly. After only three months, the college football season is effectively over. As it’s Thanksgiving, we should really write about what we’re thankful for. So with us, we thought we’d write about the SEC. We’re thankful for the 12th Man, night games in Death Valley, Mississippi Cowbells and Gator Chomps We’re thankful for close games all over the SEC this year – and we’re grateful that we’ve seen almost all of them. We’re thankful for Texas A&M and Missouri – you’ve added some new blood into the Southeastern Conference, and we love you for it. Welcome to the Valley of Death, My Friends: Final SEC Predictions!!

Sniff, sniff…. It’s the final week of the regular season in the SEC! That means (until about two weeks’ time), I can’t make fun of Auburn, Arkansas, Kentucky or Tennessee and their ineptitude or if they should fire their coaches.
