South Carolina QB rips Under Armour

South Carolina quarterback Connor Shaw has hammered the Gamecocks kit supplier Under Armour in a Twitter comment today that’s bound to cause ripples around the SEC. Shaw said on Thursday night: “3rd time the sole of my Under Armour shoes have completely busted. And we wonder why so many people have “freak” foot injuries on the team.” Under Armour is currently involved in a kit deal with South Carolina, that will eventually pay the university $1.2m in its final year in 2016. Shaw has since taken down his comment. He added on another tweet: “It was just a matter of time“. We can only wonder – are we talking about the foot injuries or the time it took for someone at

UGA linebacker to transfer

UGA linebacker Brandon Burrows has been granted an unconditional transfer, the University of Georgia has said. Mark Richt, Georgia’s coach said: “Brandon is an outstanding person, student-athlete and has a wonderful family. We’ve enjoyed having him as part of our program and will provide whatever assistance we can in his transition. I am completely understanding of his decision and wish him nothing but the best.” Burrows’ statement said: “I came out of high school playing the defensive end position in a 4-3 defense which is what I truly love. The coaching change here led to a 3-4 defense. I have worked with that transition but decided that I want to get back to playing defensive end. I think another program may give

Georgia looking for life after Crowell – and vice versa

After dismissing Isaiah Crowell on Saturday after their troubled star’s arrest on gun charges, Georgia will be needing another running back to frighten the life out of SEC East defenses in the fall. The job up for grabs will come between sophomore Ken Malcolme, highly-touted Keith Marshall, and freshman Todd Gurley, ESPN says. And as for Crowell, here are some schools where we think Crowell might end up: 1) Auburn – Remember what happened when Florida dismissed Cam Newton? We can bet that some parts of The Swamp were thinking: “Why was Urban Meyer so draconian?” Stealing computers will do that to do. Tigers fans? They’re pretty happy with the National Title. Plus, with Michael Dyer leaving, Auburn suddenly needs

Arrests: UGA running back star arrested

Georgia running back star Isaiah Crowell has been arrested, the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer has revealed. The star Bulldogs running back is in jail facing three weapons charges after Athens police stopping Crowell’s car found a weapon under his seat with an altered serial number. There was also the ‘odor of marijuana’, although no drugs were found. “Crowell was arrested on charges of carrying a weapon in a school zone, and having an altered ID mark, both felonies”, the paper said. The arrest will immediately trigger an indefinite suspension from bound-to-be-furious Georgia coach Mark Richt, and it has been speculated that Crowell could be kicked off the team. He is currently in jail with a $7,500 bail on his head.

The four-team play-off will start in 2015, and the first ‘Final Four’ will be chosen by Selection Commiteee – and teams will be ranked on Win-Loss record, strength of schedule, head-of-head and then if a team is conference champion, USA Today reporter Nicole Auerbach tweeted. She added that the make-up of the selection committee is still to be decided. Virginia Tech president Charles Steger told a press conference: “I am delighted to report our endorsement of a four-team seeded play-off”, and added that they will be taking fan suggestions for a new replacement name for the BCS, which has caused so

Who’s the best QB in the SEC?

As y’all know by this website, we spend our time being very, very nice about the SEC. But September rolls closer, we’re going to say a few things that you probably won’t like and certainly won’t agree with. But, as my uncle Hank said to me: “Opinions are like mouthholes. Everyone’s got one” (He may have substituted the word ‘mouth’ for something else, but not on this family website!)”. So if you really think Quarterback 2 is a better QB than QB 1, then make sure you comment to tell us where we went wrong. You never know, we might listen…. So without further ado… 1) Aaron Murray (Georgia) It’s a toss-up between Murray and Tyler Wilson of Georgia, but

Demps fails to make US Olympic team

Former Florida star Jeff Demps has failed in his bid to explode into the 2012 Olympics as a 100m star. Demps, the brilliant return man who had 23 touchdowns in his Gators career, made the final of the 100m US Olympics Trials in Oregon, but only came 7th. This left many people wondering what he’d given up a promising NFL career for. Demps gave up football to focus on track just a few weeks after Florida’s bowl game with Ohio State. He said: “I can have the mindset of a full-time track guy now.” It is not known whether Demps will try for a career in the NFL – where someone who has his speed could be the next Devin

Uniwatch: On The New Georgia Helmets

Sorry guys, not a big fan of the new UGA helmets. Yes, we respect Georgia’s country fanbase, but puhleeze – we much prefer the classic red ones as it has been since time and memorial. If they ARE going to change it, why don’t they simply change to a black helmet for the ‘black out’ and nothing more, nothing less? What do you think?

CFB Commissioners come to consensus on play-off

BCS Commissioners have come to a decision on how they want to go ahead with a college football play-off, the Associated Press has reported today. ESPN said: “The commissioners who have been working on reshaping college football’s postseason to create the first major college playoff met for four hours and emerged together with a commitment to stand behind a plan. Though they were stingy with providing details of that plan.” The news service added that Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott had remarked that the two national semi-finals would be worked into the bowl system, although nothing is solid. SI college football reporter Stewart Mandel tweeted: “Commissioners prefer selection committee that picks “best four,” emphasizes but not requires conference champions.” Big Ten Commissioner

Looking Back: The Top 10 SEC Games, Atmospheres and Players of 2011

Looking back, it was another glorious year for the SEC. Another National Championship was won, with Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide taking home the bacon. The Crimson Tide beat LSU 21-0 in a re-match in which did both of the things they went out to do: Dominate AND win. In the first game against the Tigers in front over 92,000 in Tuscaloosa, they’d done a lot of dominating, but not a lot of winning. The sad thing is is that both games didn’t make the Top Five games of the 2011 season. Here are your top 10 involving SEC teams – and yes, we’ve involved some non-conference ones too. And sorry Texas A&M and Missouri fans, your teams aren’t
