Kelly Bryant chooses for Missouri over Auburn, Arkansas

Former Clemson QB Kelly Bryant has opted to play for Missouri Tigers in 2019 instead of Auburn and Arkansas. Bryant’s decision represents a massive pick-up for the Tigers, who will be without Drew Lock, who has finished his senior year. New OC Derek Dooley, taking over from Josh Heupel, who took over Scott Frost’s job at UCF, is credited with helping Lock play like a NFL quarterback of the future, and Bryant will be hoping for the same. Bryant, who threw for over 2,000 yards and 13 TDs in his junior year in Death Valley before getting injured, decided to transfer from Death Valley after he was replaced by freshman Trevor Lawrence. Auburn fans will probably blame Bryant’s decision on the

Arkansas Preview 2018: Can Chad Morris resurrect the Hogs?

So much for the #winning. Bret Bielema is now out after never finishing higher than 3rd in the SEC West, and finishing 7th in three out of seven years in his reign. Oh, and he went 11-29, which probably didn’t help him. Anyway, Chad Morris has been ‘prized’ away from SMU, and he’s an exciting prospect for an offensethat depended on a heavy line but really went nowhere (94th in the country) and a defense that went nowhere too (102nd last year). So what do we think will happen in 2018? OFFENSE Giant QB Cole Kelley (he’s 6-7) is loved by just about everybody, and we really like him, too. He threw for 1,038 yards and 8 TDs, and if

Arkansas hires Chad Morris

Arkansas has hired Chad Morris to be its new head coach, the school said on Wednesday. Morris, who was formerly the coach of SMU and turned the school around after two poor seasons to a 7-5 record, will earn $21m over 6 years for his services. Morris is well-known as a fantastic recruiter in the State of Texas thanks to his links as a former high school coach, and his up-tempo offense helped to galvanize Clemson to the powerhouse when he was there as offensive coordinator. The new coach will replace Bret Bielema, who was fired after weeks of speculation. Morris will not get it easy in a stacked SEC West – which just became more stacked with the arrival

Who should go: Bret Bielema or Butch Jones?

If you had one choice of who to get rid of who would it be? Would it be Tennessee head coach Butch Jones, who seems to pour out vomit whenever he speaks or Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema, who is looking increasingly inept as his team falls down the tubes? Tennessee is currently 3-2 overall (0-2 in the SEC), while Arkansas is 2-3 overall (0-2) in the SEC. It’s the 0-4 combined record in our beloved conference that the fanbases won’t stand for. We put out the cases for both: THE CASE FOR BUTCH JONES The saddest thing for Butch Jones is that he doesn’t measure up to the stars of the past for Tennessee. Before he was run out

Saturday SEC round-up: Texas A&M impresses, Auburn does not

Saturday’s SEC games saw victories for all SEC schools playing – including resounding ones for Texas A&M, Auburn and Alabama in the three biggest games out there. So here are our big thoughts about the SEC’s Saturday. 1. Texas A&M’s performance impresses Great performance by the Aggies, who crushed Arizona State 38-17 and looked comfortable. A lot of credit has to go that the game wasn’t played in an actual ‘neutral’ venue (Houston’s in Texas, people), so ASU struggled with crowd noise…but they also struggled with Myles Garrett, who was sensational. On the other side of the ball, Christian Kirk was excellent (1 TD, 1 TD from a punt return) as the Aggies put up 247 yards. Great going, folks.

Arkansas RB out for the season

Arkansas running back Jonathan Williams is out for the season after requiring surgery on his left foot. Razorbacks head coach Bret Bielema said today: “Jonathan Williams won’t be with us for the regular season” – updating the media on an earlier announcement that the running back would miss “an extended period of time”. He said at the time of the injury announcement: “I have no doubt that Jonathan will come back stronger than ever. Anyone that knows Jonathan Williams knows this is just another opportunity for him to prove the man of character and substance that he really is…It’s an unfortunate injury to a great young man, but we are in the process of gathering as much information as

Bret Bielema: Scars are a beautiful thing

Here’s the best bits from Bret Bielema’s press conference at SEC Media Days. ON CLOSE LOSSES “We played Alabama and Mississippi State, both heart breakers at the end. Mississippi State was obviously ranked number one at the time, and we let it get away from us. All the credit in the world to Dan, his staff, and his players to make that happen. I am a big believer in life in this fact. Scars are a very beautiful thing. I have scars on my knee from an ACL surgery. I have scar on my ankle from ankle surgery. I have a scar on my left hand from hand surgery. My mom has scars from 24 years of breast cancer survival. My

Arkansas gives Bielema contract extension, puts him in $4m club

Arkansas has given head coach Bret Bielema a two-year contract extension through 2020, in a deal that will earn the coach at least $4m a year. The Razorbacks will raise Bielema’s salary by $100,000 per year, and have also added incentives for athletic and academic success that could give ‘Bert’ an extra $1m a year. ESPN.com noted that Bielema becomes the eighth SEC coach to earn at least $4m a year. Jeff Long, Arkansas’ AD said: “Coach Bret Bielema is not only one of the best college football coaches in the nation, he is an outstanding leader. What Coach Bielema and his coaching staff have done for our young men, on and off the field, is something that has dramatically

SEC Preview 2014: Will there be good ‘karma’ for Arkansas?

Bret Bielema’s press conference should have just said “I’m just sick of losing, and I’ll turn this ship around”, and stopped there, but it didn’t. Instead, he told the world how he was irritated about fast-paced offenses and how they might endanger players’ safety, and all we here at SEC Football Blog could think was: “Is he that scared of the way the way it’s all changing?”. Anyway, will good things happen in 2014 for the Razorbacks and their suffering support base? LAST SEASON Bret Bielema’s first season for Arkansas was probably one he’d like to forget. The Hogs went winless in the SEC, and finished 3-9. And worse than that, Arkansas’ slide seemed to happen after Jen, Bret’s wife,
