Florida QB Murphy to transfer

Back-up Florida Gators quarterback Tyler Murphy is to transfer despite starting seven games in the place of injured starter Jeff Driskel last season. Murphy is to join old offensive co-ordinator Steve Addazio at Boston College, where he reported to be enrolling as soon as this week. Murphy had a mixed season for an awful Gators team, passing for 1,1216 yards, 6 TDs and 5 INTS, and rushing for 61 yards and 3 TDs. The good news for the Gators is that Driskel is going to return after getting injured in the second game of the season, but is expected back by Spring Practice. BOTTOM LINE: If Driskel stays fit, it won’t matter that Murphy’s gone to BC. However if he

Alabama hires Lane Kiffin as new OC

Alabama has hired Lane Kiffin as their new offensive co-ordinator – just days after previous incumbent Doug Nussmeier went to the job at Michigan. The last time SEC fans saw Kiffin was when he walked out of Tennessee in 2010 to take the USC job, and he left a mess behind him. He was then fired mid-season by the Trojans in 2013 after they were schellacked by Arizona State. Before that they had lost to Washington State. Kiffin had been invited by Bama Coach Nick Saban to evaluate the team’s offense in mid-December, a move that some saw as a sign that Nussmeier was not going to be coming back for the 2014 season. The job for Kiffin should be

Did Alabama OC Nussmeier bolt for Michigan before he was fired?

Alabama offensive co-ordinator Doug Nussmeier has taken the vacant offensive co-ordinator’s job at Michigan.  Michigan only announced on Wednesday that head coach Brady Hoke had fired Al Borges after three years at Michigan. Nussmeier was Alabama’s OC and quarterbacks coach for the last two years, coaching an offence that included a quarterback Heisman candidate in AJ McCarron, a RB who’s now starring in the NFL in Eddie Lacy (and other great running backs including TJ Yeldon and soon-to-be Heisman Candidate Derrick Henry), a host of great wide receivers including Amari Cooper, and not to mention a SEC Championship and National Title. Because of their dependency on the defense, Alabama didn’t have to post gaudy numbers offensively. This year they were

Florida close to firing OC and other staff – reports

Florida is close to firing offensive co-ordinator Brent Pease and a number of other Florida assistants, CBSSports.com has reported. Bruce Feldman wrote: “Earlier this week a source told me that Florida would be getting rid of offensive coordinator Brent Pease after this season and offensive line coach Tim Davis also would be gone. But after the Gators dismal showing in the loss to Georgia Southern on Saturday, UF’s first loss to an FCS program, there’s even more doubt about whether Will Muschamp also gets canned this winter despite AD Jeremy Foley’s “1,000 percent” support comment last week. This wasn’t even an FCS program with a winning record in its own conference the Gators lost to.” He added: “I thought Muschamp

SEC Preseason Preview: Can Dan Mullen continue to take Mississippi State out of the doldrums?

When people think of the words: “Mississippi State”, they think of the word “Cowbell” rather than “Good football team”. This is rather harsh, bearing in mind the turnaround that Dan Mullen has put into Starkville in his last three years. The fanbase now EXPECTS to go bowling, because they’ve been to one for the last two years (which, for a team that had only been to one over the course of 2002-2009, it’s a miracle!), and high times are now behind the former University of Florida’s former offensive co-ordinator. They are going to tempt recruits with a $75m stadium expansion, which should see the sound of cowbells ring even louder across the State of Mississippi. LAST YEAR Was last year
