Ole Miss: The country’s most bizarre National Signing Day

After a tremendous 2013 National Signing Day, it would have taken Godlike qualities (and a Nick Saban resignation) to have propelled Hugh Freeze to those heights. Instead, the Ole Miss coach continued with another tremendous National Signing Day, solidifying his offensive line with a bunch of offensive linesmen, including four-starrer Rod Taylor, as well as Tyler Putman, and Jordan Sims. They’ll join JUCO O-Lineman Fahn Cooper, who enrolled early. Defensively, Freeze got JUCO DB Tee Shepard, who had previously committed to Notre Dame and Mississippi State, before he decided to play in Oxford at the last minute. Whether we like it or not, there are going to be challengers to the SEC’s bid for an eighth national championship. Some might be imagined. Others might be truthful. Roll Tide Roll! Alabama vs Notre Dame Preview

Tonight is the Super Bowl of the College Football Season – the BCS National Championship Game. The highest-profile team in college football Notre Dame is playing last year’s champions, Alabama at Sun Life Stadium in Miami, in front of a  sell-out. The game should be one of the best-watched sports matches of the  year – bearing in mind that both sides are extremely well-supported and historically strong – and we’d advise you to watch, too. SEC Bowl Predictions: From National Championship Downwards

“Some of the SEC’s the best in the country, and some of the SEC’s The Sun Belt”, a SEC fan told us over cold beverages before the SEC Championship game. Well, the Sun Belt’s out boys – right now it’s the bowl-making elite – which this year includes Ole Miss. Sunday recruiting news: Dawgs grab new WRs

It’s been widely reported but this is the news out of Florida – the Georgia Bulldogs have gone down south and grabbed wide receiver Reggie Davis. Tallahassee-based Davis, ranked the 17th wide receiver in the nation, was recruited far and wide by schools, including Alabama, Florida, Auburn, Kentucky, Ole Miss, South Carolina and Tennessee out of the SEC and Clemson, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, NC State, and Oregon – amongst others – outside of the conference. The 6ft tall Davis – a four-star receiver according to Yahoo Rivals – has a 4.55 40, and weighs 158-lbs. New Recruiting News: Kentucky grabs Florida commit

While other teams have been loading up on their commitment arsenals for the 2013 season, it’s been fair to say that Joker Phillips and his team at Kentucky have been rather slower than most. Having said that, the commitment of three-star defensive end Alvonte Bell to Lexington – Phillips’ second commit of the season- could start some sort of storm. Phillips beat Florida State, Louisville, Clemson, West Virginia, Notre Dame and both Mississippi schools to the commitment of the 6 ft 6, 240-lb player.   THE BOTTOM LINE: Could this be the new Colin Ukwu? Why the hate for Steve Spurrier?

Steve Spurrier made some non-needed headlines in the college football world this week when ESPN’s Mark Schlabach said that the South Carolina Gamecocks coach was ‘College Football’s Most Hated Coach (Of All Time)’. Said Schlabach in his article: “Rival fans hated Spurrier not only because he beat them so often while coaching at Florida, but more so because he loved to tell them about it afterward.
