SEC Media Days: What We’re Expecting (SEC East)

On Tuesday we told you what we’re expecting from SEC West coaches on the schedule. It should be a lot of talk about the schedule, quarterbacking and good running backs. Of course, we’d love them to talk about LSU and Alabama’s penchant for getting people arrested, shitty defensive co-ordinators, and their hot wives/daughters/do-nothing husbands-in-law, but it’s probably not going to happen. Anyway, this time it’s time for your SEC East coaches. FLORIDA What Jim McElwain will probably get asked: How he’s settling into the job (“I love it down here. It’s a change from the Rockies”), how he plans to change the offense (“Don’t expect miracles, but we should be better than last year”); How tough the SEC’s schedule is (“We’re

2014 SEC PREVIEW: Can Missouri shock the SEC East AGAIN?

As we’re in the swing of doing our SEC previews, we thought that as the SEC Conference 2013 winners were first up on The SEC Football Blog SEC Preview, then the 2013 SEC Conference runners-up (aka ‘Winners of the SEC East) should be second on the list. Then we can go with 2013’s also-rans.  So we start with Missouri. I can’t wait to see Maty Mauk. I was really, really excited to see Maty Mauk link up with Dorial Green-Beckham, until Gary Pinkel booted him out of Columbia. But I’m still excited to see Maty Mauk. Oh, and there was some stuff about a guy called Michael Sam, too.  LAST SEASON Missouri shocked the WORLD in 2013 when they won

Mark Richt comes out combative over Georgia drug rules

Mark Richt is used to criticism as head coach of the University of Georgia. Every year people place him on the hot-seat for either not beating South Carolina, or not beating Auburn, or losing a game they should win, or not beating a team by enough, and 2015 won’t be any different – although after beating Clemson and LSU, maybe the seat’s a LITTLE cooler. Richt’s also had his fair share of criticism about Georgia’s drug policy, which has seen the school suspend or boot a number of players over his time between the hedges. However, at the SEC Media Days in Hoover, AL, he was unrepentant. He said: “We don’t want our guys to do drugs, okay? I don’t

Missouri boots out starting WR

Missouri has booted out starting wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham. The troubled wide receiver had been suspended earlier in the week (although he wasn’t arrested) by coach Gary Pinkel, who later decided to dismiss him. Pinkel said in a release sent out to the media: “This decision was made with the best interests of all involved in mind….Dorial’s priority going forward needs to be focusing on getting the help he needs. As we have all along, we will continue to do everything we can to assist Dorial and his family. We care deeply about Dorial and his well-being, but hopefully he can benefit from a fresh start.” Pinkel’s decision seems to have been made after a Green-Beckham was allegedly involved in

Mizzou star Dorial Green-Beckham suspended

Missouri star WR Dorial Green-Beckham has been suspended “indefinitely” for a violation of team rules, after allegedly being involved in an incident in Columbia on Sunday. The Columbia Missourian said: “Columbia Police sergeant Joe Bernhard said Monday morning that Green-Beckham was not arrested over the weekend, but according to residents at Brookside Townhomes, Green-Beckham was involved in an incident there sometime between 2 and 3 a.m. Sunday.” He was arrested in a car that contained a pound of marijuana in January. Mizzou coach Gary Pinkel said: “It’s unfortunate, but it’s the right thing to do for our football program, for the athletic department, and also for Dorial…..“We have high standards related to the expectations that come along with being a Missouri

Bauer, Giant WRs highlight Missouri’s National Signing Day class

There’s a band out there called ‘They Might Be Giants’. Have a listen. You’re never going to keep them down. We know that they’ve been around longer than Missouri’s wide receiving class….but the guys that Gary Pinkel’s recruited might be giants, too. Only one of the SIX wide receivers who decided to come to Columbia is play for Pinkel is under 6ft…and he’s 5 ft 10. Four-star receiver DeSean Blair – the pick of the bunch (who actually committed to Louisville before deciding he wanted to play in the SEC– is 6 ft 4, while Dorial Green-Beckham’s brother, Darnell, is 6 ft 5 (Important question: What does Mrs Green-Beckham feed her kids, and could we have some?). Missouri fans are

Missouri WR Dorial Green-Beckham arrested

Missouri wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham has given head coach Gary Pinkel another thing to think about: He was arrested on Friday night. DGB was pulled over for expired plates on a Jeep which had a pound of marijuana in car. A POUND.  Now, it must be noted that Green-Beckham and the two other men in the car were released without charge or bail while the incident was investigated. Green-Beckham was arrested in his first year on drug possession, too. Last year, Green-Beckham caught 59 catches for 883 yards and 12 TDs. BOTTOM LINE: Although Green-Beckham’s father is that he ‘wouldn’t be charged’ it’s should be hard for police NOT to charge a group of three people with a pound of

Is Mizzou The Truth? SEC Week 6 Predictions

This week doesn’t have your cream-pie match-up in the SEC. Which is good, because some of us have only just finished relaxing after THAT LSU vs Georgia game. But it has a lot of matches that ask the question: Are you REALLY any good? Are you really any good, Missouri? We’ll know after you visit Vanderbilt. Are you really any good, Auburn? We’ll know after the clash with Ole Miss. Are you really going to surprise us? Arkansas and Tennessee will answer the question when they play Florida and Georgia respectively. Oh, and the short-term future without HaHa Clinton-Dix is going to be OK, Bama fans….Georgia State’s not going to cause y’all any problems. So here are the previews: MISSOURI

ESPN: Nick Saban’s agent spoke with Texas regent, Saban rebuffs story

Nick Saban’s agent spoke with a Texas regent, according to a report from the Associated Press. The AP report – which does nothing to scotch rumors that the Alabama coach might become the next coach at Texas after Mack Brown leaves at the end of the season – said: “Regent Wallace Hall of Dallas told the AP he spoke by telephone with agent Jimmy Sexton a few days after the Jan. 7 title game. Tom Hicks, a former regent who is the brother of current regent Steve Hicks, also was on the call. Tom Hicks, the former owner of the Texas Rangers, the Dallas Stars and the English professional soccer team Liverpool, was a regent in 1997 when Brown came to Texas and

LSU RB Hill not going to jail or getting kicked off team

Jeremy Hill’s immediate future is not behind bars, it seems. The star LSU running back was given extra community service after admitting simple battery in a fight outside a bar in Baton Rouge earlier this year – despite violating the terms of a parole given to him as a high schooler. Jeremy Hill called a press conference, which he went to with Les Miles, his coach in tow. Miles had indefinitely suspended the player for the fight. In a statement at a press conference (thanks, Tigerbait.com), he said: “I would like to thank Coach Miles and this university for giving me another chance to play football. I would like to apologize to my teammates and the community.” Miles added that Hill
