Every year the SEC dominates other schools in bowl games (unless you’re Michigan State, but less said about that the better) quite simply because they have the most difficult conference. The SEC Football Blog was reading a Twitter conversation between ESPN’s SEC writer Edward Aschoff and SEC football writer for College Football News Russ Mitchell where they were discussing the firing of Bobby Petrino, Arkansas‘ former coach who was fired after some off-season shenanigans involving one of his assistants. SEC Media Days: MSU’s Mullen keen to preserve college football’s tradition

Dan Mullen, Mississippi State’s head coach, has said that keeping college football’s tradition is incredibly important in the face of the new play-off system coming in 2014. Mississippi State gets NCAA bonus

There was good news for the Mississippi State Bulldogs this week when the NCAA allowed tight end Marcus Green a sixth year of eligibility. This mean that Green will play for the Bulldogs in 2012 – after hip and knee injuries in 2008 and 2010 respectively wrecked two of his seasons. Marcus Green told the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal:  “It’s beautiful… It’s an honor…It really shows you how it’s a privilege and an honor to be part of something special. Recruiting: Vanderbilt lands defensive commitment

Vanderbilt has added defensive end Landon Stokes to its 2013 recruiting class, 24-7sports has reported. The Orlando Prep star had offers and interest from over 30 schools, including Missouri, the two Mississippi schools, as well as Clemson and West Virginia. Stokes – Vandy’s 13th overall commitment – is ranked as Rivals’ 31st-best weakside defensive ends in the country and the 96th player in all of Florida.

Recruiting: New WR commits to Mississippi State

Wide receiver Scott Austin has committed to Mississippi State, it has been widely reported. The 6 ft 4, 180 lbs receiver out of Biloxi was ranked as the 14th best player in the State by Rivals. “It came to the point where I had a lot of stress on me on where I wanted to go and who really wanted me at heart,” he told the Clarion-Ledger. “MSU has five receivers leaving and this is a good opportunity to probably start as a true freshman.” He is the third player in the Dan Mullen’s 2013 receiving corps to be over 6 ft 3, the Clarion Ledger noted. Southern Miss had also recruited Austin.

Recruiting: Vanderbilt adds two commitments

Vanderbilt continued an excellent recruiting season so far by adding the commitment of cornerback Darius Sims from Memphis – the 11th ranked player in the State. This was widely reported on Twitter. Sims, who is ranked as a three-star defensive back by Rivals committed to the Commodores on Sunday. Vanderbilt beat Alabama, Mississippi State, Ole Miss amongst other schools to Sims. Sims is 5 ft 9,  can run a 4.65 40 and has a 32 inch vertical – and Vanderbilt will hope he can frighten quarterbacks for years to come. The commitment is the second to be announced this Sunday after defensive end Sean Spencer – the 52nd player in Georgia – committed to Vandy. Spencer was recruited by LSU and
