Other SEC coaches talk on the FCS scheduling issue

Other SEC head coaches than Florida Gators coach Will Muschamp have spoken on the scheduling issue. This is what they had to say. Nick Saban (Alabama): “I don’t know that we have a choice sometimes. We can’t just call people up and say, ‘We want to have a game.’ It’s not like setting up a golf game. I call up three of my buddies and say you guys want to play and you play Sunday morning. Then everybody says, ‘Yeah, I can play.’ You ever try to schedule a game? Do you know (what) goes into that? It’s very difficult to do home-and-home with quality teams. To be honest with you, you almost have to buy games to get people

Ranking The Best Entrances in the SEC

It’s 99 days to go until the college football season starts, and we’re pretty excited. So excited, in fact, that we’re ranking all of the entrances/pregame traditions in the SEC. And we’re not talking about tailgating! 1. Running Through The ‘T’ – Tennessee Neyland Stadium. Night. The crowd has already drunken itself to a stupor. The Pride Of The Southland Band forms a T. The team runs through it. 2.  ‘War…..Eagle’ – Auburn Not EXACTLY the entrance, but letting Spirit The Eagle out as the crowd screams “War Eagle” is one of the best traditions in sports. Spirit The Eagle then hitting a luxury box in 2011 might just be one of college football’s greatest highlights, though. The 2013 entrance was pretty cool, though. 3.

Defenses plague SEC challengers’ hopes – ESPN

We all know that Alabama is the SEC’s No.1 challenger for College Football’s first play-off. But according to an ESPN Insider article, there’s some major problems on the radar for other SEC teams hoping to get in the play-offs. — For Georgia, it’s a crappy secondary. “The inconsistent secondary is still the most prominent weakness for this club“, the report says.  “Linebacker Leonard Floyd will offset some of this with his incredible pass-rushing skills, but it is still looking as though this area of the Georgia defense is going to be every bit the coverage sieve it was last season.” The departures of Josh Harvey-Clemons and Shaq Wiggins aren’t going help matters. And to think this was a place where Champ

Another solution to the SEC’s 9-game argument

Nick Saban is furious. Nick Saban wants his nine-game SEC schedule, and he’s going to stand on his Crimson Tide-colored soapbox to get it. Nick Saban wants Alabama to play all 12 games against the big five conferences, and if it means not playing the mighty Georgia State or Chatanooga, then so be it. But Nick Saban, we’ve got a question: When was the last time Alabama played a major Big Five Conference team in a home-and-home series? The answer was 2010 and 2011, against Penn State (The Tide won both games). Before that in Nick Saban’s career as Alabama coach? None. After? None. And which school cancelled a home-and-home series against a competitive Big Five school in 2016 and

SEC’s 6-1-1 schedule: The Pros and Cons

Les Miles is furious that LSU will remain Florida’s permanent cross-division rival for the foreseeable future. The SEC announced Sunday that they are going to keep the 6-1-1 structure, with a permanent rival ensuring that LSU plays Florida. Auburn and Georgia will keep The South’s Oldest Rivalry, and Alabama will play Tennessee. They will also be mandated to play one out-of-conference game against one team from either the ACC, Pac-12, Big XII or Big Ten per year starting 2016. Miles told The Advocate: “We play the toughest schedule in America in our conference, and then we have the bias of the permanent partner…We’re now also being mandated to take a BCS team. The bias of the schedule continues to be

Would anyone force Steve Spurrier to resign?

It’s interesting, reading excerpts of Steve Spurrier’s interview with ESPN’s Chris Low. Apparently he said that he’d rather not be siphoned off into retirement, but instead simply “resign”. “I like resign a lot better“, said the South Carolina coach. “Retiring sounds too much like you’re going to sit around and not do a whole lot. I’m not a sit-around kind of guy.” The problem is is that with Steve Spurrier could be a victim of his own success. Steve Spurrier has guided South Carolina to three straight 11 wins seasons (2011, 2012, 2013). He’s also had three-straight bowl wins. He’s taken South Carolina to a SEC Championship Game and if we’re honest, the Gamecocks have been unlucky with their schedule

LSU, Syracuse confirm match-up

LSU and Syracuse have confirmed that they will play a home-and-home series in 2015 and 2017. The first game will be at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse on September 26th, 2015, and the return game will be at Tiger Stadium on September 9th, 2017. “We are thrilled to enter into this home-and-home agreement with a premiere program like LSU. Student-athletes come to Syracuse to play on the biggest stage possible, and this gives our coaches and young men the chance to battle one of the standard-bearers of the SEC on our home turf,” said ‘Cuse AD Daryl Gross. Syracuse finished 7-6 (4-4) in their first season in the ACC in 2013. LSU and Syracuse have played two games against each
