USC and UCLA make a B1G move: What does it mean for the SEC?

USC and UCLA managed to usurp the SEC on ‘crap we never saw coming’, when the Trojans and Bruins leaked the news – and then confirmed it – that they were both moving to the B1G in the 2024-25 season.  Although the geography’s a joke, it means that there will be two more college sports superpowers arriving to the Big Ten. For USC, it’s no argument that they are a college football superpower. They’ve been as much of a running joke as Texas has in recent years, but the Trojans won back-to-back Nattys in 2004 and 2005, and should were a Vince Young whisker from winning one in 2006. South Carolina grabs two top transfers from portal

South Carolina has made the early SEC splash in the transfer portal by getting commitments from former Oklahoma QB Spencer Rattler, and his teammate Austin Stogner. This will significantly upgrade South Carolina’s offensive room, where they were a putrid 109th out of 130 in points-per-game. Rattler and Stogner leave as part of a wave of players leaving Norman after head coach Lincoln Riley departed for USC (the other one!) two weeks ago. And while it is hardly a surprise bearing in mind that South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer worked on Oklahoma’s staff from 2018 to 2020 as an assistant head coach as well tight ends coach. Why aren’t we hearing more about COVID-19 from SEC coaches?

Today Florida said that they had 7 COVID-19 cases on their team, up from six from last week. The news silenced practice for today – not great news for Dan Mullen’s team that start the season against Ole Miss on September 26th. Right now, practice is important. Earlier on, Ed Orgeron said about COVID-19: “”I think most — not all of our players — but most of our players have caught it… I think hopefully they don’t catch it again and hopefully they’re not out for games… I’m not going to say all of them…. Drama on the Plains as Gatewood leaves Auburn

Game 7 of the World Series is drama enough. There are the ups, downs, shocks, disappointments and celebrations. You know, like Auburn’s season…..every year. Well, this year the drama increased when it was announced that freshman quarterback Joey Gatewood has left the team.
