LSU starting QB Jennings arrested for burglary

LSU starting quarterback Anthony Jennings has been arrested according to reports. Jennings, DB Dwayne Thomas and DL Maquedius Bain were all booked into a Baton Rouge jail after being charged with “unauthorized entry and simple burglary“. As well as Jennings, Thomas started five games for the Tigers last season, posting 24 tackles. According to a report by ‘The Advocate’, the players entered an apartment on LSU’s West Campus “with the presumed intent to retrieve items said to have been stolen from Jennings’ apartment on June 10 — a MacBook Air, three pairs of shoes and a PlayStation 4.” After breaking in, the three players (and four others, as it’s been reported) – as witnessed by the victim’s roommate – made off with

LSU DT arrested for punching woman

LSU defensive tackle Trey Lealaimatafao has been suspended by head coach Les Miles after being arrested for “simple battery and simple robbery”, the Advocate has reported. The redshirt freshman was involved in a fight outside a Baton Rouge bar on Tuesday, where he dug through the pockets of a male victim after he and a group of other- unnamed- suspects, beat the man unconscious outside Reggie’s Bar on Tuesday. Even if that wasn’t enough, Lealaimatafao then punched the victim’s girlfriend in the face with a closed fist as she tried to get in the way of the attack. He has been remanded on $15,000 bail, but hasn’t yet left jail. This is Lealaimatafao’s third off-the-field arrest, after he was arrested for stealing

2015 SEC Season: 50 Things We Can’t Wait For

It’s only the start of June, but we can’t wait for the start of the SEC season. We here at the SEC Football Blog LOVE the College World Series (with half of the field coming from the SEC, what good Southerner couldn’t?), but we still can’t wait until the Fall. And for the temperatures to drop a little.  Anyway, so here’s 50 things we’re looking forward to in the SEC season. We start with the running backs…. And we haven’t even gotten onto the match-ups!! That’ll be soon!! 1) Alabama’s Derrick Henry running over people. Or past people. The kid’s a Heisman candidate. And the best RB in the SEC. 2) LSU’s Leonard Fournette running over people. It’ll be Texas

LSU 2015 Preview: Can experience overcome bad quarterbacks?

We love Les Miles. We do. The grass-eating, kiss-you-all-on-the-mouth maverick coach pulls two or three results out his butt every year (and also loses a couple of games like that too!), loses talent every year, and still keeps LSU competitive. He’s a miracle worker in a place where miracles are much talked-about, because 13-0 is expected. And if not, he’s the most hated coach in Louisiana, if not the South. LSU fans seemingly are never happy with Miles, even if they win. Well, they might be a little more grateful for wins than most this season. Why? THE QUARTERBACK PROBLEM It’s all well and good having two of the best wide receivers in college football in Malachi Dupree and Travin

LSU loses WRs coach to 49ers

LSU’s wide receivers coach Adam Henry has decided to return to the NFL, taking a job with the San Francisco 49ers as the team’s wide receivers coach. Henry was in the job for two years after moving to Baton Rouge for five years with the Oakland Raiders, where he was offensive quality control coach and then tight ends coach. Under his watch, Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry were major difference-makers for the LSU and then in their rookie years in the NFL with the New York Giants and Miami Dolphins. This is the latest coach to leave Les Miles this off-season after the LSU head coach lost long-term DC John Chavis to Texas A&M. Henry is not the only position

Alabama’s Nick Saban top-paid coach in college football

Unsurprisingly, Alabama head coach Nick Saban is the top-ranked coach in college football, USA Today has reported. Despite a season where he didn’t win his bowl game and lost to Auburn, Saban – who’s Crimson Tide team is now the top-ranked team in the nation – still earned $7.1m in total pay in 2013 – including a base salary of $6.9m. Texas A&M’s Kevin Sumlin was the second-most paid in the SEC and the fourth-best coach in college football, pulling in $5m in base salary, and $5.006m total. LSU’s Les Miles earned $4.3m ($4.369m total), and South Carolina’s Steve Spurrier earned $4m ($4.016m total).   Here is the total pay for all SEC coaches: 1. Nick Saban (Alabama) – $6.9m

Sweet Home, Alabama: Post-Week 12 SEC Power Rankings

Well, Alabama’s now the best team in the SEC again after the Crimson Tide beat Mississippi State, while Georgia suffered a phyrric victory while pummelling Auburn – they lost Todd Gurley for the season with a torn ACL (and probably the rest of his career). Meanwhile, we’re proud to say Arkansas fans have their first win of the season after shutting out LSU, while Tennessee’s on a roll after dismantling a once-again-disappointing Kentucky team. Oh, and there that small game in The Swamp, too… Anyway, here are your post-Week 12 SEC Power Rankings. 1) Alabama Crimson Tide still aren’t much to look at offensively, but defensively, they are opportunistic, and can shut the life out of anybody. Even Dak Prescott,

LSU and Alabama finish #Hateweek With Actual Game: Week 11 SEC Preview

One of the funniest things about the LSU vs Alabama rivalry is the amount of crap that gets talked between the fans. Fans of both sides (using #LSUHateweek and #BamaHateWeek hashtag symbols) have peppered each other with pretty unoriginal Twitter messages all week long. The great thing is is that at 8pm ET both sides are going to shut the **** up because there’s an actual game on, and we can focus on bitching about the game, not which side was more screwed by more refs. Both fans have memories like elephants, so they are really good at holding grudges, too. Elsewhere in the SEC, it’s a battle for survival. Georgia NEEDS to beat Kentucky after its horrible loss to

From Muschamp to Miles to Mullen: Which SEC head coach is on the hottest seat?

It’s that time of the year when people talk. They talk about recruits. They talk about titles. And they talk about whether head coaches are going to get booted at the end of the season. Did Will Muschamp save his job by beating Georgia decisively at the Cocktail Party? Did Georgia’s Mark Richt endanger by losing the same game? Has Texas A&M’s run of form endangered Kevin Sumlin’s? Anyway, here you go with our SEC Head Coaches On The Hot Seat. Note that the lower you get, it slowly becomes very unlikely indeed. 1) Will Muschamp (Florida) — Despite beating Georgia so decisively, Will Muschamp’s reign has been pretty horrible in Florida (26-19) – especially if you compare it to

LSU and Texas schedule each other for home-and-home

Praise The Lord of beautiful co-eds in burnt orange, white shorts and cowboy boots! Praise The Lord of purple, bourbon, and great food! Praise Him! Praise Him indeed! OK, now we’ve stopped saying praise, we can open our eyes and say that according to reports, LSU and Texas have schedule a home-and-home starting 2019. Sure, that’s 5 full seasons away (giving both sides good time to cancel), but right now, we’re pretty excited. The games will be played in Austin on September 7th 2019, and in Baton Rouge in 2020. This is going to be a very, very expensive ticket, with Texas fans wanting to party their ass off in New Orleans, and LSU fans wanting to do the same
