LSU RB Hill not going to jail or getting kicked off team

Jeremy Hill’s immediate future is not behind bars, it seems. The star LSU running back was given extra community service after admitting simple battery in a fight outside a bar in Baton Rouge earlier this year – despite violating the terms of a parole given to him as a high schooler. Jeremy Hill called a press conference, which he went to with Les Miles, his coach in tow. Miles had indefinitely suspended the player for the fight. In a statement at a press conference (thanks, Tigerbait.com), he said: “I would like to thank Coach Miles and this university for giving me another chance to play football. I would like to apologize to my teammates and the community.” Miles added that Hill

Saban, Les Miles and the rest — SEC Media Days Day 3

Today was the banner day for the SEC Media Days, with three of the biggest coaches in the conference – and college football taking the podium. Sorry, James Franklin of Vanderbilt, we’re talking about Alabama’s Nick Saban, Georgia’s Mark Richt, and the ever-quotable Les Miles of LSU (if he needs further introduction). In an effort to kick things off with a bang, we’ll start with Les Miles. And no, he didn’t bring any grass with him. LES MILES (LSU) On Jeremy Hill, who’s been suspended indefinitely after getting into a fight in a car park, which he pled guilty for: “Jeremy Hill has a legal entanglement. At this point in time he remains indefinitely suspended. I have a track record with really disciplining

Should Les Miles Boot His Star LSU Running Back?

LSU starting running back Jeremy Hill has admitted to simple battering – along with a friend – for sucker-punching a 20-year old man outside Reggie’s bar in Tigerland, after video evidence emerged of his attack. He was sentenced to two years’ probation – although may still face jail time for a violation of probation for an earlier offence (details below), when he discusses his parole in late August. The video of the attack is here. It’s not pretty viewing.  Hill must attend anger management classes, has to stay away from social media, pay $375 in medical expenses to Connor Baldridge, and will be under a curfew – although will be ‘suspended’ for football-related activities.  He also must write a letter of apology

Losing badly: Bad SEC memories

—- OUR GUEST WRITER ALEX FERGUSON WRITES FROM BLOG ‘VIEW FROM AMERICA’ WRITES——  It’s not the only time that I’ve written an anti-SEC piece – I’ve been going on and on about the SEC’s lack of red-hot non-conference schedule competition since God was a boy (and will probably continue to do so!!), but this article comes because as college football fans, we remember the bad times just as well as the good times. And as June 18th in my birthday – I’m 35 today (so remember to say Happy Birthday! to me after reading this) – I thought it was a bit of time to remember the bad times. I’m going through EVERY SEC team – that includes you too,

LSU suspends RB Hill

Jeremy Hill isn’t doing himself any favors if he wants to be the SEC’s best running back come the end of the 2013-4 season. The running back was arrested for simple battery after allegedly hitting someone on the side of the head outside a Baton Rouge hostelry on Saturday night, numerous reports have said. Hill was suspended indefinitely by coach Les Miles, the coach announced on Monday. Miles said in a statement that he would “let this incident play out through the legal system before making any additional comments”, ESPN reported. Hill finished with 755 yards and 12 TDs on 142 carries in an incredible rookie season for the Tigers – and looks like one of the most promising offensive

Ten big questions for National Signing Day

Like everyone else, we at the SEC Football Blog are really, really excited about National Signing Day on February 6th. Sorry we haven’t been covering “firm”, “less firm”, “wavy”, or “de” commitments hugely this off-season, but these are mad times for recruits, and quite frankly, we’re happiest to sit and wait to see where the chips fall on February 6th – our first reminder that yes, college football will be back in a few weeks time with the Crimson/White/Red/Black/Blue/Orange/Purple/Green/Rainbow games in April, before getting to the fun times of players arrests and ejections from campus. Anyway, there IS the important time of Signing Day. With five SEC schools predicted to be in the Rivals.com Top 10, we anticipate that things

Spurrier gets new contract extension from South Carolina

After a 10-2 season that included a victories over hated rivals Clemson and Georgia, the South Carolina Gamecocks have given a two-year contract extension to College Football’s greatest golfing football coach, Steve Spurrier through the 2017 season. Unlike Les Miles’ deal with LSU, Spurrier’s deal with South Carolina did not see a salary raise – although he’s going to earn $3.3m in 2013, which is quite handy. He should be able to buy some drinks for Stephen Garcia with that… We’re almost surprised that Spurrier won’t pass comment on the radio about his extension: “Well, if Les Miles agent hadn’t called that website, perhaps he wouldn’t have gotten a raise at all….” There were some great stories/remarks doing the rounds about

Les Miles signs new contract with LSU

A couple of things happened today that you should be listening to. After the furore involving Les Miles and a $5m-a-year, 5 year contract with Arkansas, LSU announced that Les Miles has signed a seven-year contract extension with the university. Miles will earn $4.9m annually to be the Tigers head coach, according to the linked report. Miles said: “I’m a LSU head coach and will be a LSU head coach for as long as I can be. Hopefully, we’ll look up seven years from now and I’ll be looking for another seven-year extension.” BOTTOM LINE: It’s not exactly surprising that Miles’ pay raise came at the time that rumors were circulating that Arkansas had reached out to the Mad Hatter.

Stir Up The Echoes, Because We’re Facing Notre Dame: SEC Final Power Rankings

Wow. It’s all come so quickly. After only three months, the college football season is effectively over. Yes, there’s the SEC Championship Game, bowl games and the small thing called the National Championship Game is over, but there are no more SEC night games. There are no more big stadiums with parking lots filled with people cooking gumbo, drinking bourbon, and generally having a damned good time. The pageantry is over. We do know one thing: We are not going to see an all-SEC National Championship Game. Notre Dame saw to that, but taking care of Lane Kiffin’s USC in Los Angeles. But the question is is: Who’s going to play the Irish – Alabama or Georgia? Stir up the
