After SEC coaches gave the SEC Coach of The Year award to Missouri's Gary Pinkel, we decided that it was high time to rank the SEC coaches in terms of their job for this year. In advance: Will Muschamp didn't win. 1) Dan Mullen (Mississippi State) We thought he was joking when he said Mississippi State would compete for a SEC title this year. Well, it did. Unsurprisingly, Alabama head coach Nick Saban is the top-ranked coach in college football, USA Today has reported. Despite a season where he didn't win his bowl game and lost to Auburn, Saban - who's Crimson Tide team is now the top-ranked team in the nation - still earned $7.1m in total pay in 2013 - including a base salary of $6.9m. Texas A&M's Kevin Sumlin was the second-most paid in the SEC and the fourth-best coach in college football, pulling in $5m in base salary, and $5.006m total. Both Alabama and Georgia made statements on Saturday. Alabama by shutting down Texas A&M's offense, Georgia by going to Arkansas and picking up the Win That No-One-But-Vegas-Who-Had-Them-Favored expected, striking a monster blow for SEC East. The dumpster fire in Florida continued as they lost 42-12 to Missouri at home on Homecoming Night, while Ole Miss shut down Tennessee at home. On a weekend that the No.2 team in the nation go and play the No. 3 team, and the team which beat Alabama goes down to a cauldron of noise to play in butt-hurt Texas, it's funny how one incident can steal a spotlight for another team completely. It was a strange night for the SEC. A team that got beaten at home by a BIG TEN TEAM went on the road to one of the toughest environments in the SEC.....and won. 'Twas a hell of a night in the SEC. South Carolina avoided getting hit by lightning to score a 3-point win over Georgia, Florida squeaked by Kentucky in THREE overtimes, and Arkansas ripped out a monster away victory at Texas Tech (giggles). The last two years in Texas A&M history haven't been the most successful, but hell, they've been the most fun. That's because Johnny Manziel was there, tearing up the SEC, stealing the headlines, winning a Heisman, and giving heart attacks to every head coach and defensive co-ordinator he faced.
