Texas A&M opener postponed due to Hurricane Isaac

Hurricane Isaac has already taken with it one SEC casualty – Texas A&M’s first game as a SEC school – on the road at Louisiana Tech on Thursday night. The game has been rescheduled for October 13th. And while this gives Texas A&M another week to prepare for the visit of the Florida Gators to Kyle Field, it also means that Kevin Sumlin’s first game as the Aggies’ head coach is against one of the best defenses in the SEC and possibly in college football.  Usually ‘big-time’ schools will schedule a smaller program to give themselves match fitness before the all-important conference season. SEC Preseason Preview: Can Florida return to old glories?

The Florida Gators are a National Power. Sure, they may have sucked pre-Spurrier, but in the last three decades, they’ve been almost always extremely competitive (if you ignore the Ron Zook years). Since 1991, Florida has won eight SEC titles, and three National Titles. They also haven’t missed a bowl game since 1991, either. That’s a pretty great record. Rogered: Tennessee WR Da’Rick Rogers suspended indefinitely

Huge news in Tennessee: Standout wide receiver Da’Rick Rogers has been suspended indefinitely by coach Derek Dooley for an unspecified violation of team rules, according to ESPN. It is not known what he did to gain such a suspension, although Bruce Feldman, college football reporter at CBS was told that it was a string of troubling incidents that prompted the staff to make the move. In one tweet he said: “After what I’d been told by sources inside Vols program last yr, was surprised Dooley allowed Da’Rick Rogers to stay w team.” He added: “In 2011 Da’Rick Rogers had a series of incidents, incldg a complete meltdown at UK gm that sources say COMPLETELY crossed line w UT staff.” And

SEC Media Days: Muschamp refuses to name Florida starter

The starting quarterback for the Florida Gators hasn’t been decided yet, according to coach Will Muschamp at the SEC Media Days. Four-star Georgia recruit Brandon Kublanow has told The SEC Football Blog that he’s now uncertain as to whether he will be a Bulldog in 2013 after Mark Richt announced that linebacker / defensive end Brandon Burrows was to transfer. UGA linebacker to transfer

UGA linebacker Brandon Burrows has been granted an unconditional transfer, the University of Georgia has said. Mark Richt, Georgia’s coach said: “Brandon is an outstanding person, student-athlete and has a wonderful family. We’ve enjoyed having him as part of our program and will provide whatever assistance we can in his transition. I am completely understanding of his decision and wish him nothing but the best.” Burrows’ statement said: “I came out of high school playing the defensive end position in a 4-3 defense which is what I truly love.
