Can Auburn win the SEC another National Championship?

BCS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME: FLORIDA STATE VS AUBURN  WHY FLORIDA STATE WILL WIN  We’ve got good buddy of ours in FSU fan Geoff Bowles who is very sure about his side winning The Big Game on Monday night. He’ll tell anyone who’s listening that Florida will hammer Auburn, winning by 2-3 touchdowns. It’s not because he doesn’t respect Auburn’s high-octane offence (you know, the one that caused perfectly good defences in Alabama and Missouri problems in back-to-back games), but Auburn’s defence, which he thinks is absolutely horrible. And he’d be right. Auburn gives up 24 points per game, which is 38th in the nation. And while they’ve made some key stops in their games in the last month of the

Should an SEC team get into the National Championship?

When this blog was set up, we didn’t set it up because we didn’t love the SEC and wanted to talk down to our 14 groups of fans. We do. We love the culture, we love that it’s football 24-7, and we love that more often than not, we win. We love our stadia, our co-eds, and the Saturday Night Lights. We had one of the greatest weekends to be a SEC fan with the madness that stretched from Mississippi to Alabama to Georgia. And like the late great Lou Reed says, I’m glad I spent it with you. Anyways, when Auburn beat Alabama it caused a lot more harm than good, if you’re Mike Slive, the SEC Commissioner. For

No SEC team In Top 2 In BCS Standings After Iron Bowl

There is no SEC team in the Top 2 in the BCS Standings after Auburn’s victory over Alabama, folks. Florida State – who beat Florida senseless – is No.1 and Ohio State – who survived a excremental decision by Michigan coach Brady Hoke to go for it on 4th down – is No.2. Auburn in No.3, Alabama is No.4 and Missouri is No.5. If Auburn beats Missouri in the SEC Championship Game and Ohio State loses to Michigan State, the SEC can be ensured of a SEC team in the National Championship. If not, then….. Here are the standings: 1) Florida State – .995 2) Ohio State – .950 3) Auburn – .923 4) Alabama – .854 5) Missouri –

Who’s Going To Win The Iron Bowl? SEC ‘Rivalry Week’ Predictions

If you hadn’t noticed, this week in the SEC has its fair share of antagonism. And we love it. On all three days of the Thanksgiving Holiday. And you know what? We’re thankful for it! We love Alabama fans screwing with Auburn fans, and vice-versa. With both proving equally touchy. We love Ole Miss and Mississippi State fans screwing with each other. With both proving equally touchy. We love South Carolina and Clemson fans screwing with each other. Or more’s the case, Steve Spurrier screwing with Dabo Swinney, and Swinney desperately trying to rise above it. Which he’s failing to do. We love Florida and Florida State screwing with each other, with Florida students, despite their school’s record, thanking God

The Top 10 Challengers To SEC Supremacy

Whether we like it or not, there are going to be challengers to the SEC’s bid for an eighth national championship. Some might be imagined. Others might be truthful. Laugh at us all you want, but here’s our Top 10 teams — brought to you by our blogger Alex Ferguson (@viewfromamerica, he’d like to mention) — who could challenge the SEC for a National Championship. We’ve promised not to laugh at him. 1)  Ohio State Why:  Last season Ohio State went 12-0 and don’t really look like quietening the charge – especially with the return of excellent quarterback Braxton Miller, a deep running back set, and Urban Meyer’s record of winning. You might not like him (especially not Florida fans!)

The Top Ten SEC Non-Conference Games of the 2013 Season

I was thinking about whether to put this out NOW or put this out after my raft of previews, but as there’s still 11 previews to go, I thought it might be good to break it up with a ‘Top Ten SEC Non-Conference Games Of The 2013 Season’. So here they are (P.S. Rice’s visit to Texas A&M on Opening Saturday gets the No.4 vote if Johnny Football isn’t playing. If he is, the Aggies win by 30-40, depending on how Kevin Sumlin’s feeling) 1) Georgia at Clemson (Opening Saturday) College Gameday’s going to be there. The most SEC-like crowd of a non-SEC team is going to be there (Clemson). They’ve even got a Death Valley! Anyway, Georgia – with

Recruiting: Florida adds QB commitment

The University of Florida have added a commitment at quarterback for its 2013 class, Gatorsports.com reported on Monday. Three-star Quarterback Max Staver committed to Will Muschamp’s side, decided to go for Gainseville instead of Dan Mullen’s Mississippi State, who had also given him an offer. Staver, from Brentwood, Tennessee, is ranked the 14th player in the State and the 27th in the country amongst pro-style quarterbacks nationally. “I called them and they asked me if I was ready to be a Florida Gator, and I committed on the spot,” he told the website. Staver had also been shown interest from Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida State, but none of the other schools had offered him yet.

Recruiting: Alabama adds four-star recruit

Nick Saban added his 15th commitment of the season when Texan cornerback Maurice Smith committed to play for Alabama, Al.com has reported. According to the report, Smith announced the decision via press release. He said: “Maurice Smith II (Fort Bend Sugarland Dulles c/o 2013) has researched, evaluated, and visited and has reached his decision to commit to University of Alabama and play for Nick Saban’s defense.” He added: “I knew this would be one of the biggest decisions in my life, and at 16 it seemed almost too big, and a lot of pressure. But someone told me that I would know when it was right. It just felt right, with no pressure, or expectation, it is just right for
