Tennessee comes in with HUGE recruiting haul

After years of being terrible, Tennessee head coach Butch Jones has come in with just what the doctors in Knoxville ordered: A monster haul. By the end of National Signing Day, 32 players had signed up to be Volunteers (yeah, you read that right), much to even the biggest UT bloggers, who titled their National Signing Day post: “Where did all these bricks come from?” The answer is that Tennessee kicked butt and got signings in pretty early – including shoring up their defense with some excellent recruits. The biggest signings of these was safety Todd Kelly (59 on ESPN’s Top 300 list), OLB Dillon Bates (105), and DE Dewayne Hendrix (176). On the offensive side – and something that

Kentucky Derby: Wildcats Post Strong National Signing Day

When people talk to you about the Kentucky Wildcats, the thing they bring up most often is the fact that the program’s a basketball program which happens to play a bit of football. And with former Jared Lorenzen suddenly in the news for, er, eating Jared Lorenzen, the school’s football program’s been a source of laughter for many. But with former Kentucky defensive star Danny Trevathan helping to take the Denver Broncos to the Super Bowl, ‘Big Blue’ winning  a basketball game comfortably and Mark Stoops having a solid National Signing Day, things might be changing in Lexington with this good few weeks. Kentucky got into the news a few days ago when fDT Matt Elam decided he wasn’t going to

He will be expected to do the same in an offense which is going to feature two of the best running backs in the country in TJ Yeldon and Derrick Henry.

Georgia DC Grantham going to Louisville- reports

Georgia defensive co-ordinator Todd Grantham is going to Louisville, reports say. ESPN’s Joe Schad, quoting sources, said Grantham will get $1m-per-year guaranteed on a five-year contract. Grantham came to Georgia in 2010 after stints at Virginia Tech, Michigan State and in the NFL with Indianapolis, Cleveland and Dallas in varying assistant head coach positions. In 2013 Georgia’s defence was 79th in the country in points conceded, 40th in run defense, 60th in passing yards allowed. BOTTOM LINE: The biggest thing for the Bulldogs hasn’t been Grantham’s recruiting: He’s able to bring in some of the biggest talent in the SEC year after year. The biggest thing for the Bulldogs is how those players have played. The last two years has

Why hiring Lane Kiffin would be a bad idea for Alabama

Lane Kiffin is interviewing for the Alabama’s offensive co-ordinator’s job, according to CBSSports.com. He was asked to come in and ‘evaluate’ the offense before the Sugar Bowl by ‘Bama head coach Nick Saban, who incidentally shares his agent, Jimmy Sexton. But would this be a good idea? Let’s get this clear, if there’s a person more persona non grata in college football than Lane Kiffin, we’d really to know who he is. Here’s a list of fanbases who loathe him: 1) Tennessee’s fanbase: He preached loyalty, and then left to the University of Southern California after 14 months. The team who signed up for him were shocked and outraged. The fans still are. 2) Florida’s fanbase: During his stay in Tennessee, he

Badgers, Bulldogs, and .341: SEC Bowl Preview

The blessing of bowl season in the SEC is that you don’t have to overdo it with SEC previews until pretty much the last minute. Well, thank God for the NFL Sabbath, which gave yours truly a little more chance to digest some (more) turkey and adult beverages and put together his SEC preview. And don’t worry: We haven’t forgotten you, Auburn. We are just doing yours seperately. MONDAY DECEMBER 30TH  MUSIC CITY BOWL: OLE MISS VS GEORGIA TECH  Georgia Tech and Ole Miss ended the season in heartbreaking fashion. Georgia Tech by giving up a 20-point lead over hated rivals Georgia, and then losing in double overtime, while Ole Miss quarterunning backack Bo Wallace fumbled on his way to

Florida close to firing OC and other staff – reports

Florida is close to firing offensive co-ordinator Brent Pease and a number of other Florida assistants, CBSSports.com has reported. Bruce Feldman wrote: “Earlier this week a source told me that Florida would be getting rid of offensive coordinator Brent Pease after this season and offensive line coach Tim Davis also would be gone. But after the Gators dismal showing in the loss to Georgia Southern on Saturday, UF’s first loss to an FCS program, there’s even more doubt about whether Will Muschamp also gets canned this winter despite AD Jeremy Foley’s “1,000 percent” support comment last week. This wasn’t even an FCS program with a winning record in its own conference the Gators lost to.” He added: “I thought Muschamp

Alabama-LSU re-takes focus of college football: Week 11 SEC Predictions

So, it was a pretty crazy Thursday after all. Baylor was restricted for a quarter-or-so then broke out the whooping stick on Oklahoma. Then, unbeaten Oregon rolled into Stanford….and lost 26-20 in a game that they trailed 26-0 and were owned in. Anyway, Saturday night’s alright for fighting…..or Alabama to play LSU. The game last year was incredible, but not a lot of people are anticipating the 2013 version from Tuscalossa to be that good. Anyway, here’s your Week 11 Predictions. LSU AT ALABAMA Because of the size of Thursday’s games, the LSU-Alabama has been slightly overshadowed this week. There’s also the fact that LSU’s losses to Georgia and Ole Miss means that they currently stand 13th in the rankings
