Former Vanderbilt players found guilty of rape

Two former Vanderbilt games have been found guilty of the rape of a student in 2013. Brandon Vandenburg and Corey Batey were found to have brought the unconscious, unnamed student up to his dorm room after drinking after taking her to their bedroom, where Vandenburg photographed the assault, according to ESPN. Two other players – Brandon E. Banks and Jaborian McKenzie, are still waiting to be tried. The news shocked the campus in September 2013….but what has also haunted the campus was the cover-up by other football players of the action. This included star wide receiver Chris Boyd, who was booted for his role in covering up the gang rape. Boyd was given a yearlong probation in return for testifying

Alabama LB arrested on domestic violence charges

Alabama linebacker Ryan Anderson has been arrested on third-degree domestic violence charges, according to a report by AL.com. The former 5-star recruit was arrested on Monday night with another charge – misdemeanor criminal mischief – also on the list. Anderson made 25 tackles last season, and it was hoped he might play more games for the Crimson Tide in 2015. You know, if he stays out of jail. BOTTOM LINE: The arrest of Anderson isn’t great PR for Nick Saban, who gave a second chance to DT Jonathan Taylor, who was arrested while he was at Georgia for domestic violence against his girlfriend. Taylor signed for the school in the off-season and has started classes in Tuscaloosa.

In shocking news, another UGA player arrested

In shocking news, this weekend news emerged that yet another UGA player had been arrested – the seventh this off-season. This time it was reserve lineback Davin Bellamy for DUI and speeding in Athens. According to the Athens Banner-Herald, Bellamy was “clocked going 52 in a 35 mph zone heading east on College Station Road in Athens at 2:58 a.m when his 2001 Volvo was pulled over in the Kroger parking lot.” And when police smelt booze on his breath, he failed the sobriety test and police noted that he had “red, watery eyes“. He refused to take a blood-alcohol test to determine his BAC, which would have probably been the highlight of the arrest. Especially if he’d made as

Right Richt: Jonathan Taylor booted by Georgia

You know what? We’re not actually being sarcastic when we say “Right Richt”, because any guy who strangles or strikes his girlfriend or any female (as it seems sophomore D-Lineman Jonathan Taylor did in the late hours of Monday night) should be booted from a football team and if we’re honest, should not be allowed to transfer, unless it’s to jail. Well, after this second run-in with the law in one off-season, the 6-4, 340lb  Taylor was dismissed by the Georgia Bulldogs today. He was released from jail at 11.45am and was packing up his stuff by 1.30pm today. Mark Richt obviously wasn’t screwing around. The news release detailing his booting came at around 3pm, according to reports. There isn’t

SEC Preview 14: Gurley to New York, Georgia to Atlanta?

Aaron Murray’s graduation is going to leave a monstrous hole at QB for the Georgia Bulldogs. But all new QB Hutson Mason may have to do is hand the ball off to Heisman contender Todd Gurley, and the Dawgs – armed with a strong linebacking corps, could be in the mix for a trip to Atlanta as SEC East Champion LAST SEASON The biggest highlight of Georgia’s season was the secondary’s screw-up of a pretty easy knock-down/interception to gift Auburn a victory in a titanic battle. Of course, the decision of Lee Corso to pick LSU instead of UGA in Athens ‘led’ the Dawgs to victory in one of the games of the season, and Georgia beat Florida and South

2014 SEC Preview: Where is Texas A&M going to be without Johnny Football?

The last two years in Texas A&M history haven’t been the most successful, but hell, they’ve been the most fun. That’s because Johnny Manziel was there, tearing up the SEC, stealing the headlines, winning a Heisman, and giving heart attacks to every head coach and defensive co-ordinator he faced. He made head coach Kevin Sumlin into a God and himself into a NFL first-rounder. Well, he’s gone now, and we see what A&M’s going to do in 2014 without him. LAST SEASON While the Johnny Football offense continued to be fun (5th in the country in scoring) and tight, the defense really wasn’t. We’d dare to say that if it wasn’t for Johnny Manziel and Mike Evans’ heroics, Texas A&M probably

Nick Saban: I was not offered $100m by Texas

Nick Saban, head coach at Alabama, arrived at the SEC Media Days in the face of an eventful offseason. Firstly there were the rumors that he might be leaving Tuscaloosa for the bright lights of Austin and the Texas Longhorns. Today there was something going around that UT and its board of regents were preparing a $100m offer for him to dress in burnt orange in 2015 and beyond.   He said: “Well, I didn’t have any conversations with them.  Nobody offered me anything.  So I guess if I didn’t have any conversations with them, I didn’t have very much interest.  I think the University of Texas is a fantastic place, and they’ve got a lot of wonderful people there,

Malzahn says QB will ‘deal with the consequences’ after citation

Gus Malzahn, the Auburn coach, said on Monday at the SEC Media Days in Hoover, AL that Nick Marshall will learn from his ‘mistake’ after the QB was cited for less than an ounce of marijuana in his car. “Nick made a mistake and he’ll have to deal with the consequences,” Malzahn said. “I’m not ready to say what those consequences are at this time, but he will deal with it.” Malzahn added that defensive end Carl Lawson will miss most or all of a season with a torn ACL. Malzahn added that Lawson’s surgery was “successful”, and that the player was working “extremely hard” to ensure a 2014 comeback. All Auburn representatives were wearing a No.43 badge in memory
