Texas A&M drops USC and Oregon from future schedules

It didn’t take long Texas A&M to fit in with the SEC-type of scheduling issue. Why? Because right now, there’s an outcry for schools to schedule more difficult non-confernence teams in a quest for a National Championship. And what did Texas A&M do? They cancelled their home-and-home games with USC in 2015-6 and Oregon from 2018-9. The Aggies explanation is a good one – blame it on the SEC. “During a transition like this (from the Big 12 to the SEC), it’s just been a little more difficult trying to schedule. Texas A&M legend Pardee passes away

There was more sad news for the SEC after news emerged that Texas A&M legend Jack Pardee had passed away aged 76. According to ESPN, Pardee was one of Bear Bryant’s Junction Boys when Bryant was a coach in Aggieland. Pardee played linebacker for the Aggies for three years and was then drafted in 1957. In the three years Pardee played under Bryant, the Aggies went 7-2-1, 9-0-1, and 8-3. Pardee then played in the NFL for 15 years – during which he had a bout of melanoma. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1996, after a successful coaching stint at Houston in 1989 that saw Andre Ware get a Heisman Award – he was

The days after Armageddon: SEC Rankings (With apologies)

First Alabama – LSU happened. Then Obama happened. Sorry boys and gals, we haven’t been as up-to-date as we should be with our SEC rankings. Anyway, here they are… 1. Alabama – Survived LSU. You have to wonder what John Chavis was doing playing soft coverage though in that last drive. 2 = Georgia – Woke up from a 10-0 deficit against Ole Miss to hammer Ole Reb 37-10 in a performance that got stronger by the minute. We look forward to the SEC Championship Game, Dawgs. 2= LSU – A team very like Georgia who only woke up in the second half of the Alabama game. Atmosphere second-to-none in Death Valley, by the way. Good on you, LSU fans.

Two Death Valleys? SEC Week 7 Preview

If there’s a pot, Steve Spurrier will be there to stir it. This week, Steve Spurrier hammered Georgia (both with mouth and with team), and hammered Clemson (“My boys haven’t been to Death Valley before“, he opined on the radio). This week, he’s going to hell. Quite possibly to prepare him for the afterlife, Clemson fans might say. SEC! SEC! SEC! Week 5 Predictions

Now that Arkansas has dived so downwards, there is no argument about what is the biggest game in the SEC this week: Tennessee’s trip to Georgia. The last time people were this psyched up for a Tennessee game was a couple of weeks ago. The fans were wearing orange. Last Saturday saw College Gameday once again decide to visit SEC Country, where the gang hit up Knoxville, TN for the Tennessee-Florida Game. Tons more exicitement than there had been in years for fans of Big Orange….same old result against those Gators. Anyway, this week, Gameday’s off to travel to the University of Florida’s little brother in Tallahassee, where the mighty ‘Noles will stick their flaming spear in the University of South Carolina’s little brother and make them enjoy it. What a Week 3 it was. While Tennessee fans once again spat bullets about losing to Florida at home, they managed to drown their beers and sip some champagne as Lane Kiffin and No.2  USC lost at Pac-12 rival Stanford, we once again had evidence that there’s only one team out there in College Football at the moment: Alabama. Texas A&M opener postponed due to Hurricane Isaac

Hurricane Isaac has already taken with it one SEC casualty – Texas A&M’s first game as a SEC school – on the road at Louisiana Tech on Thursday night. The game has been rescheduled for October 13th. And while this gives Texas A&M another week to prepare for the visit of the Florida Gators to Kyle Field, it also means that Kevin Sumlin’s first game as the Aggies’ head coach is against one of the best defenses in the SEC and possibly in college football.  Usually ‘big-time’ schools will schedule a smaller program to give themselves match fitness before the all-important conference season. SEC Preseason Preview: Can LSU overcome the loss of Tyrann Mathieu?

Tyrann Mathieu really screwed up this time. In fact, he screwed up so much that he’s now in rehab, and he’s off the LSU team. Last year he was suspended for drug use, while in the off-season he entertained everybody by wanting to change his ‘Honey Badger’ nickname for ‘King’. Wow, there’s nothing like a bit of humility, is there? We can only hope that a reformed, drug-free Tyrann Mathieu is back in FBS Football and his bravado is pitch only.
