LSU, the removal of wins, and the Ghost of Les Miles

Last week’s pretty boring week of news was highlighted by news that LSU been forced by the NCAA to vacated all of its wins between 2012-2015 because of benefits giving to offensive linesman Vadal Alexander and his family. The booster in question – John Paul Funes – gave works to Vadal’s father and mother, who never ended up doing their jobs. Well, James Alexander, Vadal’s father, did five pieces of work for Our Lady Of The Lake Foundation, anyway…and earned over $180,000 over five years for doing so (great work if you can get it!). Atmosphere “horrible” in South Carolina coach chase

A South Carolina source close to the SEC Football Blog said that the atmosphere in Columbia has “been horrible” around the school’s coaching search. S South Carolina’s top target was Houston head coach Tom Herman, but a big pay rise has meant he will stay in place. They also wanted Georgia defensive co-ordinator Jeremy Pruitt, although some boosters are unsure about him thanks to his adventures with the Bulldogs coaching staff, where he apparently caused a lot of disharmony. The chase for the South Carolina head coach job hotted up on Friday as rumors began to swirl that Auburn defensive co-ordinator Will Muschamp was close to being appointed to the role. Vegas releases SEC win totals

Not that anyone gambles on the game of College Football, but if they did, they might be interested to know that one of Las Vegas’ bigger sportsbooks has released its estimates for this year’s college football season. We’re not going to go into wild detail for all the schools, but here are the SEC estimates. And no, we don’t know why Georgia hasn’t been mentioned, although we can only presume it’s because of the different disciplinary issues – one of them notably with Baccari Rambo.
