Tua should stay at Alabama next year

Alabama fans hadn’t mourned this badly since the death of Bear Bryant. Their star quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa was lying on the ground from a seemingly innocuous hit. A few minutes later, it was announced that he wouldn’t return to the game. A few hours after that, it was announced he wouldn’t be returning for the year. Alabama fans, still remembering his heroics in the 2018 National Championship Game against Georgia, asked themselves: “Will we ever see Tua play in Tuscaloosa again?” The general thought is ‘no’. He’s going to pack his bags and go straight to the NFL, where he’ll get millions as a top-round NFL Draft pick. But as Lee Corso says: Not so fast, my friend. There are

If Georgia wins out, the Play-Off Committee has problems

The day we’ve all been waiting for is coming on Thursday. No, it’s not Armageddon our chance to be taken up to heaven. No, it’s not that time that we get the call from Heidi Klum offering to meet her for a date. It’s better than that. It’s the first release of the College Football Play-Off Committee’s 1-2-3-4. This Tuesday the Committee rated their 1 to 4 as Ohio State, LSU, Alabama and Penn State. Clemson was 5th, Georgia 6th, followed by Oregon, Utah, Oklahoma and Florida. In other words, the SEC owned the Top 10. But if Georgia wins out, this could create a monstrous nightmare for the Committee. THE IDEAL SCENARIO: Alabama beats LSU comfortably/ LSU beats Alabama

After Week 10: How good is Georgia?

We admit it. We followed the bandwagon and predicted that Florida would beat Georgia at the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party. After all, Florida was bringing back two of its biggest defensive guns in Zuniga and Grennard. Georgia had been uninventive. Todd Grantham was incredible. Dan Mullen was on the rise, while Kirby was going to the other way. Hell, a former Florida cheerleader yelled at me for having the nerve to tell her that I thought Georgia had a chance. “We’re going to Atlanta!”, she said. And then stomped off when I suggested that Aaron Hernandez was perhaps not The Swamp’s greatest alum. So with her in mind I laughed my butt off when my prediction went wrong and

Jalen Hurts transferring to Oklahoma

Jalen Hurts didn’t last a long time in College Football’s infamous transfer window: He’s going to Oklahoma. In a piece in the Player’s Tribune, he thanked Alabama for his career, and then said that he was “taking his talents” to Norman. “For that I have so many people to thank. People who’ve made a deep and lasting impact on my life, just from their paths crossing with mine. People who have helped me, trained me, or flat-out raised me. Or even just believed in me. Thank you, truly.” Hurts found himself behind Tua Tagovailoa for the whole season, although still bagged the headlines in the SEC Championship Game when he took over from his replacement – who was having a

Tua got beaten by a surfer boy last night

It wasn’t his father who gave Tua the belt on Monday night – it was the Clemson defense. Tua’s first interception – a pick-six – was awful enough, and his second quarter interception was even worse than that. In the end, he finished 22-34 with 296 yards, 2 TDs and 2 INTs, and was pulled before the game ended. His replacement Jalen Hurts (0-2, 0 yards and -4 yards rushing) wasn’t good either, as he – like the man he replaced- struggled to deal with an on-fire Brent Venables defense, starring Christian Wilkins. And like the horror show 4th-and-6 trick play, it didn’t come off. This was supposed to be the crowning of Tua Tagovailoa. But it wasn’t.  Tua had

Alabama – Clemson IV: A very quick National Championship Game preview

This Monday is the College Football finale between two teams that EVERYBODY thought would get there: Alabama and Clemson. It’s no secret that both teams are amazing. Both teams are stacked with first round draft picks. Both teams have five-star quarterbacks who been revelations. Both teams have insanely good wide receivers and running backs. And their defenses? Whoa. The only bad thing about the National Championship is that it’s going to be played in Santa Clara, California. My brother – who lives there – said to me: “Why in the hell are they having a massive college football game during rush-hour on a weekday? The place is hard to get to and isn’t a great stadium experience? The 49ers can’t even fill

Georgia – Alabama SEC Championship Game Preview

How are you not excited? The 2018 SEC Championship Game between Georgia and Alabama will pit two of the biggest – if not the biggest – players in the SEC. It’s a rematch of the 2018 National Championship Game – the greatest game of the season last year. It’s a rematch of mentor vs mentee. It’s trying to stay perfect vs the battle for the fourth play-off spot. It’s Georgia versus Alabama. Georgia is a 13-point underdog, and that’s not really surprising. A lot of people think Vegas is being kind. THE SEASON SO FAR This season, Alabama has been perfect. The Crimson Tide are 12-0 , and they’ve made it look easy, beating every team by a margin of 35.2 points per

Iron, Egg, Bourbon and Hate: SEC Rivalry Week Preview

Of all the rivalries in the SEC, the best name for a rivalry is the Georgia – Georgia Tech game: “Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate”. Nothing comes close. However, there are some badass hatred flowing through the SEC. Alabama and Auburn despise each other. Ole Miss and Mississippi State may be on a par with that….maybe worse. There’s no love lost between Clemson and South Carolina or Florida and Florida State. Tennessee – Vanderbilt always seems to pit the ‘Public School Hillbillies’ and the ‘Private School snobs’, and Louisville and Kentucky certainly aren’t fond of each other, even though the ‘Governor’s Cup’ makes it sound like a place where the fans drink sweet tea before the game, not ludicrous amounts of bourbon.

NEWSFLASH: Alabama did NOT impress on Week 12

Breaking News: Alabama did not impress us on Week 12. At half-time of the game against Citadel in Tuscaloosa, with the much-less-than-the-reported-101,000 inside Bryant-Denny Stadium still sleepy, the game was tied 10-10. The Tide couldn’t deal with the triple-option, and the offense was poor to say the least. In the second half, Alabama adjusted themselves, scoring 40 to Citadel’s 7, and everything seemed good. I even posted on my Twitter that after Alabama’s putrid performance Clemson should be made No.1 if they comfortably beat Duke. And Clemson was awful in its first half against Duke before exploding for 45. Obviously, Clemson’s victory over an above-average Duke said counts for more than Alabama’s victory against a Citadel team, but the Play-Off

Is every SEC team that’s not Alabama ordinary? Week 12 SEC Rankings

We didn’t want to admit it, but 85% (12 out of 14) of SEC teams are really, really ordinary. Some might be even worse than that. SEC fans will tell you that the ‘ordinariness’ isn’t in fact that, it’s the fact that ‘anyone can beat anyone on ANY GIVEN SATURDAY IN THE SEC’, and that’s what makes the SEC so great, and other conferences so suck-worthy. Of course, it’s the notion of ‘Every Given Saturday’ that makes college football so awesome, and not just the SEC. But in fact, the SEC, B1G and ACC have something in common: They all boast a team that hasn’t won an in-conference game all season (Arkansas, Louisville, Rutgers). And apart from Georgia and Alabama, everyone
