After the relative dross of SEC games last week, Week 3 of the season – on paper anyway – is a beautiful mixture of in-house SEC clashes, and some ‘dope’ out-of-conference clashes, which are the filling of some pretty dry bread that you can avoid if you take it away. Dawgs on Top: Week 1 SEC Rankings

Week 1 in the SEC was fun. Georgia shut down Clemson with a defense that was absolutely frightening. Alabama rolled – and we mean ROLLED – against Miami, and LSU lost at UCLA. Everyone else? Auburn, Kentucky, South Carolina and Texas A&M all christened their series in style, while Missouri, Arkansas and Mississippi State survived despite playing dreadfully, and Vanderbilt’s loss to ETSU was so bad that it had us questioning whether they should play football. Anyway, here are our rankings for the 11 SEC teams that we’ve seen this season. Last week was Week 0. Yeah, we saw a B1G match-up between Nebraska and Illinois, as well as UCLA putting a beating on Hawaii, but that was about it. Alabama’s National Championship last season was a beauty. They buried defenses on offense, and after the Ole Miss near-debacle, they buried defenses too. But the NFL scourged a team like we’ve never team. The Crimson Tide had SIX first round picks (WRs Jaylen Waddle, DeVonta Smith, CB Patrick Surtain, QB Mac Jones, OT Alex Leatherwood, RB Najee Harris), plus second rounder C Lance Dickerson and DT Christian Barmore and OG Deonte Brown (6th round) and LS Thomas Fletcher (6th round). LSU puts up vaccination-only rules for Tiger Stadium

After a few dreadful months encompassing the installment of an idiot of a women’s basketball head coach to allegations of sexual assault, LSU’s athletic department finally got something right: They are banning anyone who’s over 12 and not vaccinated or can’t show a negative test from coming into Tiger Stadium. “As the flagship institution of the state of Louisiana, our foremost responsibility is to ensure the safety of our students, our supporters, and our community,” LSU President William Tate IV said. “While we are aware of the diverse perspectives across the nation regarding masks and vaccinations, we must take all reasonable measures to protect our campus and community, not only on gamedays, but long after guests have left Tiger Stadium.

Every SEC starting QB apart from Mississippi State has been named. Here’s an outline of what SEC head coaches have done. THE CERTAINTIES ALABAMA: BRYCE YOUNG. Young was named starter on 8/30. After coming to Tuscaloosa as one of the top QBs in the 2020 recruiting cycle, everyone has been excited about seeing this Californian prospect start. Hello, Mr New SEC fan. You’re looking for a team to root for, and here at the SEC Football Blog we’d like to give a guide. For the record, all of our fanbases get loaded and cook good food before a game on a Saturday. Our fans are obnoxious and quasi-respectful. Our stadiums are monstrous theaters, and our players are generally pretty great. The SEC loves black players, hates black head coaches

  If I’m an Auburn fan, I wouldn’t understand why my team didn’t even bother interviewing Tony Elliott. Tony Elliott has been in charge of one of the biggest, brightest offenses in college football for 2015-2019, and has coached NFL star in Deshaun Watson, and the next NFL star in Trevor Lawrence. He’s been a master – and has been prettily paid for it by one of college football’s most elite programs. It’s easy to see why Elliott wasn’t even interviewed. The excuse from Greene (who by the way, is African-American) will be that he didn’t bother interviewing anybody, instead of going straight for Boise State’s Brian Harsin – a move which pissed off the already-crazed Auburn booster base. Tennessee hires Josh Heupel as new head coach. What’s next?

Tennessee has hired former UCF head coach Josh Heupel as its new head coach. Danny White – who is now Tennessee’s AD – was formerly Heupel’s boss at UCF. He’ll be paid $4 million-a-year on a 6-year deal. He said on his press conference: “I believe in a very, very bright future for Tennessee football. I believe that there’s a minor speed bump that we’re going through, but the kids that are in our program right now and the kids that are being recruited are going to have a chance to play and chase championships.” First of all, we know that Tennessee fans would have loved a ‘bigger name hire’, but what self-respecting head coach would want to walk into
