Arkansas AD Long named Chairman of College Football Play-Off Committee

Arkansas Athletic Director Jeff Long has been made chairman of the college football play-off committee, starting in 2014, according to a release from the NCAA. “The selection committee will choose the four teams that advance to the College Football Playoff beginning after the 2014 regular season, as well as rank and place at-large teams in the noncontract New Year’s Day bowls — the Cotton, Fiesta and Chick-fil-A“, ESPN said. Here come the Tigers!!! SEC Power Rankings Week 7

Right, it was a pretty nuts absolutely ****ing crazy weekend in college football. CRAZY. Stanford goes down to Utah.  4 overtimes in Happy Valley see Michigan lose to Penn State. Several ranked teams struggle….including Clemson and Baylor. In the SEC, injury-hit Georgia (almost predictably….apart from Vegas) lost to Missouri, who had a BIG INJURY of their own. Florida was awful in its loss at LSU, who found a defense for the first time this season. Oh, and Johnny Football was Johnny Football. Anyway, here’s our SEC Power Rankings, which are proving increasingly difficult. 1) Alabama: This one’s pretty easy. Alabama maybe caused themselves one of the biggest upsets of the season, by coming out of the first quarter with Kentucky scoreless.

Jeez Louise, it’s Week 7 of the 2013 College Football season already. At SEC Football Blog Towers, I’m already crying my eyes out that the season is over….and it hasn’t gone yet! Jadeveon Clowney maintains he’ll return

South Carolina defensive end, ESPN star and dreadlocked giant Jadeveon Clowney has promised that he will return in 2013 after missing the Kentucky game through bruised ribs. Clowney’s decision not to play the Kentucky game really annoyed South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier, who said that Clowney simply: “Didn’t want to play”. It soon became the biggest story of last week’s college football schedule…and maybe the biggest of the year. But Clowney put stories of his demise to (some) rest by saying in a press conference today saying (via tweets from GamecockCentral.com): “I haven’t played my last game yet. Gators rising- SEC Power Rankings Week 6

Georgia came through Knoxville ‘scathed’ but with an overtime victory. South Carolina survived a furious comeback from Kentucky. Auburn survived a furious comeback from Ole Miss. LSU blew an early lead against Mississippi State and then hit another gear and blew ’em out. Florida and Arkansas was a nasty game…and not in a good way. Alabama had no problems with Georgia State…apart from keeping the score down. Oh, and in the ‘Under-The-Radar Game Of The Day’….Missouri destroyed Vanderbilt…which really impressed us. 1) Bama- Not about today’s destruction of GSU (it could have been 70, let’s face it!), but this team’s D and no little offense is the best team in the country. 2) Florida- Defense is nasty. Is Mizzou The Truth? SEC Week 6 Predictions

This week doesn’t have your cream-pie match-up in the SEC. Which is good, because some of us have only just finished relaxing after THAT LSU vs Georgia game. But it has a lot of matches that ask the question: Are you REALLY any good? Are you really any good, Missouri? We’ll know after you visit Vanderbilt. Are you really any good, Auburn? We’ll know after the clash with Ole Miss. Are you really going to surprise us? Arkansas and Tennessee will answer the question when they play Florida and Georgia respectively. SEC Power Rankings Week 5: Red Rises To The Top

OK, so the best game of the week (predictably) was in Athens, when Georgia took on LSU. The game wasn’t exactly defensively-minded, with the Dawgs coming out 44-41. In other worlds, Alabama reminded Hugh Freeze and Ole Miss that they had a lot of work to do still, while South Carolina and, er, Tennessee survived scares against mighty UCF and the even mightier South Alabama. Oh, and the Tyler Murphy experiment in Florida rolled to 2-0 after they slapped Kentucky. So here are our SEC Power Rankings: 1) Alabama – Beat Ole Miss comfortably. There are still worries about the running game (which came good in the second half), but the defense is one of the best in the SEC.

Week 5 Predictions: Dawgs? Tigers? Rebels? Or Tide?

The SEC wasn’t exactly up to scratch last week. Tennessee reminded us how poor the bottom of the conference actually is, while Arkansas reminded us that if they are truly ‘back’, they’d better beat superpowers like Rutgers…..which they didn’t but should have. Anyway, on the slate today are exciting match-ups between LSU and Georgia, Alabama and Ole Miss, and a tricky one for Texas A&M (who can’t stop the run) against Arkansas. Tennessee Chomped, Tigers beat Tigers: Week 4 SEC Rankings

It wasn’t a good week for Jeff Driskel. He saw his season end with a broken fibula against Tennessee…..which he broke while throwing a Pick 6. That capped what has been a fairly awful start to the year. But the good news for the Gators is that they bounced back with replacement QB Tyler Murphy, and the Gators chomped Tennessee, who looked dreadful offensively AND defensively. Oh, and LSU beat Auburn in rainy Death Valley. And Arkansas embarrassed the SEC by losing at Rutgers. Week 4 SEC Previews: Is Auburn (LSU) Tiger Bait?

TIt’s Week 4 in the SEC, which apparently means meaningless opposition for more teams unless you’re Auburn (playing at LSU) and Tennesseee (playing at Florida). No doubt their fans will get called all kinds of “bait” (Tiger and Gator), and their replies about corn dogs and jorts hopefully will come back thick and fast.
