A NIL Manifesto!

First of all, I’d like to note that I’m not an old fogey or a male version of a ‘Karen’. I fully believe that College players of all sports should be paid. After all, their appearances make all of the networks a ton of money, as well as the schools who are ‘in partnership with the networks’, as well as the businesses who want to be associated with their school, because thanks to their talent, they are always in a National Championship or March Madness shout. But this thing has become a cluster-f**k, and we all know it. First of all, the NCAA can’t work out what to do. They’ve been throwing out this idea that every school should pay

College Football Play-Off firms up future plans

After years of argument, we finally know what’s going on. College Football will have its 12-team play-off, starting in the 2024 season. This gives us one more year of arguing and raging, before we argue and rage about 50 more teams that should have made the 12. Anyhoo, the six highest-ranked conference champions in the 10 college football conferences will earn a spot, as well as six at-large bids. This means that it’s guaranteed that a Group-Of-Give team (or two, which could happen if the Sun Belt continues its upwards trajectory and the AAC continues to vastly improve) gets in, which is pleasing. SO WHAT HAPPENS ABOUT THE GAMES? The Rose, Cotton, Orange, Sugar, Fiesta and Peach Bowls will host

Alabama – Clemson IV: A very quick National Championship Game preview

This Monday is the College Football finale between two teams that EVERYBODY thought would get there: Alabama and Clemson. It’s no secret that both teams are amazing. Both teams are stacked with first round draft picks. Both teams have five-star quarterbacks who been revelations. Both teams have insanely good wide receivers and running backs. And their defenses? Whoa. The only bad thing about the National Championship is that it’s going to be played in Santa Clara, California. My brother – who lives there – said to me: “Why in the hell are they having a massive college football game during rush-hour on a weekday? The place is hard to get to and isn’t a great stadium experience? The 49ers can’t even fill

Top 10 Non-SEC National Title Contenders

Sad as we may say, there are National Title Contenders outside of the SEC. And yes, we know they actually exist. Anyway, so here we go: Clemson: Dabo Swinney won one a couple of a seasons ago, and the Tigers’ defense is going to be an absolute beast this year. Oh, and offensively they’ll be pretty good too. We expect them to beat Texas A&M, walk the ACC, and win their home game at season-end against South Carolina. Ohio State: Urban Meyer’s a horrible piece of human garbage, but his QB Dwayne Haskins is the real deal. The school also churns out talented player after talented player. Unless they play Iowa. Oklahoma: The Sooners have an insanely talented coach in Lincoln

Should Alabama be No.1 in the first CFB Play-Off Rankings?

We know Alabama is one of the best four teams in the country. The Crimson Tide haven’t just played every team it’s come against well, it has (apart from Texas A&M) massacred them. The Crimson Tide has burnt through much of its opposition, and it’s probably the best team in college football. The College Football Play-Off Committee’s eye test would definitely see Alabama’s blitzkrieg of its opposition and put it as the best team in the country. But then, it has to worry about strength of schedule. And it also looks at how teams improve week to week rather than fall apart. That’s why Ohio State fans are probably very excited about the prospect of seeing their team in the

Spring Game Round-Up: Florida, Auburn, South Carolina

The round-up from the first two Spring Games in the SEC are this: Florida and South Carolina seem to have their starting quarterbacks in place, and Auburn doesn’t. GATORS CHOMPING WITH DEL RIO Florida fans are suddenly excited that in the post-Grier and (thankfully) post-Harris world, they suddenly looked as they have a starter for 2017: Luke Del Rio. And while Del Rio is hardly a new face in college football – he walked on at Alabama, transferred to Oregon State, then transferred to Florida in 2014, where he sat out a year. He’s now a graduate, and suddenly the face of Gators football. Del Rio went 10-11 for 176 yards and 2 TDs. Sure, the defense wasn’t exactly vintage

National Championship Game Preview: Will Alabama beat Clemson?

The final day of the college football season is always the most miserable one: Because it’s all ending until September. Sure, we at the SEC Football Blog will be writing copy on recruiting, spring games, ranking coach hires, watching as Will Muschamp goes from hero to zero to hero again after one Spring Game, Nick Saban grumbling his way through the summer, and trying to work out new ways of drinking bourbon all day during Saturdays and still writing comprehensive tweets, but it’s not the same. College Football 2015 is over. The good news for SEC fans is that Alabama’s in the National Championship Game, and they are playing Clemson. Alabama’s favoured by seven points by Vegas. It’s OK to

Kirby Smart to be named UGA head coach – reports

Georgia will name Alabama defensive co-ordinator Kirby Smart as its head coach as soon as Sunday or Monday, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution has reported. Multiple writers have now backed it up. . The website, quoting “persons familiar with the negotiation”, said that the announcement will come after the SEC Championship Game, which will be played on Saturday between SEC West Champion Alabama and SEC East Champion – and huge underdog – Florida in Atlanta. Although Smart has a lot of SEC experience, he doesn’t have any head coaching experience, and Athens – where he played defensive back – which is seen as a major risk by Georgia. “Smart will bring in his own staff but is expected to retain defensive line
