Week 8 SEC Preview and Predictions (and some others too!)

It’s a relatively quiet week in the SEC, with only 4 SEC match-ups and out-of-conference v SEC game. Headlining it is Alabama v Tennessee, with South Carolina’s trip to Missouri, Ole Miss’ trip to Auburn, and a bottom-feeder-for-the-SEC-West clash between Mississippi State and Arkansas (which should be stuck on on the Pac-12 Network, let alone the SEC Network) coming along behind. Oh, and LSU hosts Army, which would have been a cool match-up, erm, last year. So as a special treat, we’re doing a brief  preview of three non-conference match-ups between ranked teams, including Penn State’s trip to Ohio State, Duke v Florida State, and Utah v USC – a match-up that looked a lot spicier before the season started.

SEC Rankings: Missouri flies up

Georgia: The injury to Brock Bowers is obviously going to hurt the Bulldogs, but the fact that there are alternatives – and good wide receivers that will help Kirby feel happier about life. Also: The defense will be able to step up. As they usually do.  Alabama: The offensive line is less of a problem than people think. Jalen Milroe hasn’t been great with his decision-making, which means he gets sacked lots. SEC Week 7 Power Rankings: Georgia makes statement

If last week was a sleepy wander for the Georgia Bulldogs, this week was absolute savagery. Kentucky was destroyed 51-13, and that result was probably kind on them. Elsewhere, Alabama did their usual squeaking-by of Texas A&M, LSU got over the line in a shoot-out against Missouri, Ole Miss comfortably beat a terrible Arkansas team, Florida thumped a woeful Vanderbilt, and Mississippi State did something about Western Michigan. Everyone else gave Bye Week a good seeing-to. So here are your rankings: Georgia (6-0): Questioned over whether they were good enough to three-peat at National Champions, Georgia curb-stomped Kentucky. Week 3 SEC Preview: A underrated weekend

There’s an expression in Britain that says: “They’re a bit of a wanker”. It’s basically the same as what you’d say in the USA about someone being a jerk-off, but with less words. There are other terms: A pile of ‘wank’ (American translation: ‘Crap’), we ‘wanked all over them’ (American translation: Smashed them), ‘Wankered’ (American translation hammered), and ‘Wanky’. Now ‘wanky’ is a term for someone or something that’s pretentious (ie ‘That’s a bit wanky). Week 2 Rankings: Ole Miss rules, Georgia needs to play someone

Normally, if a team’s the No.1 team in the nation, then they would usually be No.1 on our SEC rankings. But aside from the fact that Georgia’s schedule is medicore-to-dreadful, they haven’t looked wonderful on offense, and aren’t clicking in enough gears to get the No.1 spot. So here are the rankings: Ole Miss (2-0): Beat Tulane 37-20 and looked increasingly comfortable as the game went on. Judkins is a weapon, and Jaxson Dart is looking increasingly comfortable within the offense. Look, there are still things to iron out (they were 1-13 on 3rd downs), but a ‘scrappy’ offense that wins is better than none at all. Week 2 Betting Preview: Get excited about Texas-Alabama, A&M v Miami, and Ole Miss v Tulane

It’s Week 2 of the season tomorrow. The two words on everyone in college football’s mouth is: “Texas” and “Alabama”. Texas fans are apparently forking out $1,000 just to be there – even though Alabama’s widely expected to be comfortable. But that’s not the cool games in the SEC. Ole Miss goes to Tulane in a battle of ‘First to 100’. Texas A&M goes to Miami in the battle of ‘Guess Which School’s Back After Winning This One’. Auburn go up the West Coast to Cal. THE WEEK ONE SEC RANKING LIST

  Without further ado (and without focus on the SEC’s 1-3 record against Power-5 teams this week) here we goooo……. Vanderbilt (2-0): BECAUSE THEY ARE 2-0 BABY! AND THE RECORD MATTERS!!  Tennessee (1-0): BECAUSE THEY WERE THE ONLY SEC TEAM TO BEAT A POWER-5 TEAM EVEN THOUGH A LOT OF NON POWER-5 TEAMS AND MAYBE A COUPLE OF FCS TEAMS WOULD HAVE BEATEN THAT POWER-5 TEAM!! Oh, and Joe Milton’s 21-30, 201 yard, 2 TD effort (where he shone out at times), was excellent.  Kentucky (1-0): Beat a team that’s expected to be a title contender in the MAC. SEC Preview: Is Alabama really an underdog?

This is going to sound incredibly silly, but Alabama may well go into this season as an underdog. Not in many games, but in the National Championship discussion. For years, there isn’t an Alabama player that’s been especially memorable. The rock stars  – like Will Anderson Jr or Bryce Young are gone. Jahmyr Gibbs is gone. Henry To’oto’o is gone.  That’s a hell of a lot of talent. The reason for this is simple: Alabama was meant to be everything when Young and Gibbs were anchoring the offense and Anderson, Demarco Hellams, Brian Branch and To’oto’o were anchoring the defense. SEC Preview: Is Vanderbilt really going to be fine?

For years on end, Vanderbilt has been the laughing stock of SEC Football. Look, we loved the coaches. James Franklin put the team on the map. Derek Mason brought the energy of a great coach, but wasn’t a great head coach (He’s now working for the SEC Network). And now Clark Lea’s here, who’s on a very long leash, and is willing to take things slowly. At least at Vanderbilt, they know nothing’s a quick fix. Lea went from 2-10 (0-8 SEC) in his first year to 5-7 last year, with a 2-6 record, which included wins over Florida and Kentucky.
