The SEC produces a lot of NFL WRs and RBs, but why not QBs?

The SEC is going to continue a strong tradition of NFL wideouts come to the 2018 NFL Draft. Calvin Ridley (Alabama), and Christian Kirk (Texas A&M) are both expected to be first or second round picks in April, while it’s expected that there will be takers for DJ Chark (LSU), Antonio Callaway (Florida), JMon Moore (Missouri), Javon Wims (Georgia) and Robert Foster (Alabama). In 2019 the top wide receiver going is probably going to be Ole Miss’ AJ Brown, although Deebo Samuel (South Carolina), Tyrie Cleveland (Florida) and Terry Godwin (Georgia) could also create some noise if their 2018 seasons go as well as they are hoping for. Tennessee D-Lineman in assault charge

Tennessee defensive lineman Alexis Johnson was arrested for domestic assault on Wednesday night and has been suspended by the team. According to The Tennesseean, Johnson was charged with “one count of aggravated assault and one count of false imprisonment after authorities say he attacked a woman he’d been dating”. The Knoxville News-Sentinel said, quoting a warrant: “The victim, who previously dated Johnson on two occasions, told police she was “play fighting” with him in the living room and the bedroom of his apartment sometime between 3-5 a.m. Sunday when the horseplay turned violent, according to arrest warrants. The episode escalated when the 6-foot-4, 295-pound Johnson placed his hand around the victim’s throat, repeatedly choking her to the point that she could not

LSU grabs Georgia WR coach

LSU has nabbed Georgia wide receivers coach Tony Ball, the school confirmed in a statement. Ball had spent nine years at Georgia as running backs coach then wide receivers coach, and will take on one of the best wide receiving corps in the nation. Ball comes in after LSU lost Adam Henry – the former player in that position – to the San Francisco 49ers. Henry coached Odell Beckham Jr and Jarvis Landry, who have both made excellent NFL rookies. Unfortunately for LSU, one of the best wide receiving corps in the country came last season with two awful quarterbacks in Anthony Jennings and Brandon Harris. He’ll get a pay raise at LSU – he’s making $267,000 in Baton Rouge.

LSU loses WRs coach to 49ers

LSU’s wide receivers coach Adam Henry has decided to return to the NFL, taking a job with the San Francisco 49ers as the team’s wide receivers coach. Henry was in the job for two years after moving to Baton Rouge for five years with the Oakland Raiders, where he was offensive quality control coach and then tight ends coach. Under his watch, Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry were major difference-makers for the LSU and then in their rookie years in the NFL with the New York Giants and Miami Dolphins. Manziel, McCarron lead list of offensive invites to NFL Combine

The quarterbacking foursome of the Four Ms lead SEC names invited to the NFL Combine. Texas A&M’s Heisman winner Johnny Manziel, Alabama’s AJ McCarron, Georgia’s Aaron Murray and LSU’s Zach Mettenberger have all been invited to the Combine, which starts on February 19th. Connor Shaw at South Carolina has also been invited. While Manziel, McCarron and Shaw will probably make the trip, it’s not certain if Murray and Mettenberger will have recovered enough from injuries they sustained at the end of the year to partake – which may drop their draft status, despite both players’ electric arms (Mettenberger’s particularly). Right, so we love our SEC players almost as much as we like our SEC co-eds, our SEC stadiums, our SEC tailgates and as much as we hate the postgame SEC traffic. Anyway, so here are 15 players we are really, really, really, really, really, really going to miss when this season is over. And if you think I’ve overdone it on the word: “Really”, then you should “really” find a new life. 1. Johnny Manziel (Texas A&M): Johnny Mesmerising. Johnny Manziel has been so incredible for A&M this season that you know that when the 2013-4 season is over and Johnny Football becomes Johnny NFL (where he’ll probably get eaten alive), you’ll shed a tear. SEC Week 2: Power Rankings – Georgia rises, Florida falls

It was a weird and wild weekend in the SEC. Georgia and South Carolina played a classic that Georgia finally one (it’s been the opposite direction at Sanford between these two recently), Texas A&M struggled with mighty Sam Houston State in the first half of their game (mainly thanks to some terrible defense), LSU’s Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham were bringing the circus to ‘circus-like catches’ in Death Valley against UAB, and, er, Florida lost at Miami.
