Georgia is Thanos, Get out of the way

When Kirby Smart started rolling out the classes that he did, Georgia fans went from the ‘expecting-but-really-hoping’ type to ‘expecting’ type. This season, with Alabama disappointing as much as they did, Georgia has become inevitable. Inevitable teams in college football don’t sideswipe others out of the way. Remember Thanos had his struggles with The Avengers before eventually taking things over. Georgia’s struggles weren’t with the best of ’em. They were plain bad against Kent State and even worse against Missouri, but came through those battles. And the war against Ohio State? The much-vaunted Bulldogs defense was shredded for most part of that game, but they came back. The missed field goal from Ohio State at the end of the game

SEC Week 6: Tennessee continues to drop jaws, Arkansas just drops

South Carolina scored the most stunning win of the SEC calendar in Week 6 when they beat Kentucky on their own turf. Also, Texas A&M was a dumbass decision away from upsetting Alabama for the second year in a row on its own turf in a game plagued by turnovers, while Georgia happily destroyed Auburn. Otherwise, Tennessee went to Death Valley and destroyed LSU 40-13, Mississippi State took advantage of a porous Arkansas secondary (to put it mildly), Florida beat Missouri and Ole Miss did what was expected of them by beating Vanderbilt with a strong second half performance. Anyway, here are our Week 6 rankings… Tennessee (5-0): We all thought this would be a tight game in Death Valley.

Week 6 Preview: The big game’s in Death Valley, actually

I got in an argument after I posting a quick 1-14 SEC ranking on my Twitter page in which I ranked Georgia as third, with Tennessee on top and Alabama as second. Anyway, Week 5 is finished now. Sorry to have not done my ratings, but in between looking after a toddler and having one of the worst laptop chargers in Christendom, Week 6 has caught up with me way too quickly. Anyway: Week 6 is going to be fun, isn’t it? CBS thought they had hit the jackpot by scheduling their only night game between Alabama and Texas A&M before the season. And then Texas A&M became really, really poor, and Alabama’s a 24 point favourite, and if Saban’s

SEC Week 5 Preview: LSU goes to Auburn, Arkansas v Alabama

Honestly, writing this preview seems a little worthless bearing in mind Hurricane Ian and its effect on SEC territory. The University of Florida and their players will be watching the game with heavy hearts, bearing in mind the devestation around the State. South Carolina already got ahead of the game by playing South Carolina State on Thursday. It was a slaughter as Carolina won 50-10. Spencer Rattler AGAIN wasn’t a highlight, throwing 2 TDs but also 2 picks. MarShawn Lloyd led the running backs with 91 yards and a TD (and a TD reception, too). For Saturday, Alabama’s trip to Arkansas, Auburn’s trip to LSU, and Kentucky’s trip to Ole Miss highlights the schedule. There’s an underrated potential beauty in

Week 4 SEC rankings: Tennessee’s our No.1

This season, I have been consistently hit by the fact that Tennessee should be ranked as the No.1 team in the SEC, and maybe the No.2 team in the country. It’s not because of the Josh Heupel offense or because I’ve automatically decided that orange is my favorite colour – it’s because Tennessee has beaten two ranked sides, and Alabama and Georgia has only beaten one. There is no ‘common opponent’ between Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia. There will be when the Vols play both teams, but right now, the Vols have had the harder of all three schedules. Each have played SEC teams. Georgia and Alabama destroyed South Carolina and Vanderbilt respectively, but Tennessee beat a better opponent in Florida.

Week 4 Preview: Dumpster fire alert

This week is Dumpster Fire alert. Note: This doesn’t apply to every team. But Missouri’s trip to Auburn is a dumpster fire of all three facets of the game, Florida v Tennessee will feature the potential dumpster fire of two bad defenses and a kid who was after Week 1 a Heisman candidate and is now a cautionary tale of Week 1 beliefs, and Arkansas v Texas A&M just simply is a dumpster fire of expectations and stupidity. Every year. The other games are [checks notes] dull. SO HERE IS YOUR WEEK 4 PREVIEW, in terms of what games we are interested in. And the odd betting tip. No.20 Florida at No.11 Tennessee (-10 1/2, O/U 62 1/2) How can

The SEC Future: How a 3-6 schedule would work

Everyone talked about the new SEC schedule. Regardless of what Greg Sankey would love to say, the SEC is going to follow the Pac-12 – (and Big 12 a few years before that, incidentally), and go for a system where the best two team in the SEC play each other in the SEC Championship Game. And that system would be 9 games, and not 8. One thing’s that’s not going to happen is the ‘1-8 schedule’ (1 permanent rival, and 7 revolving rivals), because that will mean that a lot of key TV assets won’t play each other, not to mention Georgia v Auburn, or Alabama v LSU, and Texas v Texas A&M. There are some people who like the
